NEW DELHI:
Adani Defence & Aerospace
has entered into a binding collaboration agreement with
Sparton
(DeLeon Springs LLC), a subsidiary of Elbit Systems specialising in advanced
Anti-submarine warfare
systems.
The Adani Group company on Sunday announced that this alliance represents a crucial move towards localising the assembly of sophisticated electronic systems and advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare solutions for Indian and international markets, as reported by news agency ANI.
The company revealed that it's India's first private sector entity to provide domestically produced sonobuoy solutions- critical devices used in underwater surveillance and submarine detection.
The collaboration will combine Sparton's proven ASW technology with Adani Defence's capabilities in design, manufacturing, and maintenance, aiming to deliver mission-ready solutions for the
Indian Navy
.
Sonobuoys
play a vital role in enhancing Undersea Domain Awareness (UDA), offering effective detection, location, and tracking of submarines.
They are essential to modern anti-submarine warfare and maritime security, particularly in safeguarding carrier strike groups and other strategic naval assets.
Historically, India has relied on international markets for this vital naval capability, creating substantial dependence on foreign original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Aligned with '
Aatmanirbhar Bharat
' and '
Make in India
' initiatives, Sparton's existing relationship with the Indian Navy will enable Adani Defence to produce these solutions domestically.
Jeet Adani, vice president of Adani Enterprises, said, "In an increasingly volatile maritime environment, strengthening India's undersea warfare capabilities is not merely a strategic priority but an imperative for safeguarding sovereignty and national interests. The Indian Navy requires integrated, mission-ready ISR and anti-submarine warfare capabilities, including critical systems like sonobuoys, that are indigenously developed, swiftly deployable, and globally competitive.
"
He further added: "Through this partnership with Sparton, Adani Defence & Aerospace becomes the first private company in India to offer indigenised sonobuoy solutions, enabling access to advanced technologies while fostering a futureready, self-reliant defence ecosystem. This initiative reflects our Group's vision of empowering India's armed forces with world-class capabilities that are designed, developed, and delivered in India, for India and the world.
"
Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO, Adani Defence & Aerospace also commented saying, "For decades, India has been dependent on imports for such critical technology. This partnership to bring world-class sonobuoy technology and integrating it with India's defence ecosystem, is a step towards building self-reliant capabilities in this critical domain."
Meanwhile, Donnelly Bohan, president and CEO, Sparton DeLeon Springs LLC, said: "Sparton has a long legacy for problem solving, advanced engineering and manufacturing of America's best maritime defense solutions. We are proud to partner with Adani Defence & Aerospace to bring our proven anti-submarine warfare (ASW) technologies to India. This partnership will enable us to localize assemblage, create high-technology skill sets, and deliver reliable ASW solutions tailored to the India Navy's needs.

How to check your DIGIPIN on your phone? Follow these quick and easy steps
The Indian government has launched a new digital address system called DIGIPIN that aims to enable the precise identification of locations in the country. DIGIPIN is expected to streamline services such as last-mile delivery for e-commerce giants like Amazon and Flipkart. It could also aid police, ambulance, and fire services in improving their emergency response times as DIGIPIN claims to offer a level of geographical accuracy that has been lacking in India so far. 'The DIGIPIN will lead to secure and efficient communication between the citizens and government and private entities. It is an open-source, interoperable, geo-coded and grid-based digital address system,' the government said in a press release. 'DIGIPIN simplifies address management by providing precise location-based identification, especially in areas with unstructured or changing addresses. It also helps in areas where no clear address exists, such as rural regions, forests, and oceans,' India Post said in a post on X. As the government rolls out DIGIPIN nationwide, here is what you need to know about the unique digital ID as well as how you can generate a DIGIPIN for your own home. DIGIPIN is a unique ten-character alphanumeric code that can be generated for any property that is approximately 4 by 4 square meters on Indian land. This means that unique DIGIPINs can be generated for nearly all types of properties including in urban locations and rural areas across different maritime zones. For example, the DIGIPIN for The Indian Express office building in Noida is 39J-53M-TJF9. The underlying technology of DIGIPIN has been developed by the Department of Posts in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad and National Remote Sensing Centre, which works under the aegis of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The government has emphasised that DIGIPIN is an open-source, interoperable, and privacy-focused system. Each DIGIPIN is a encoded with the geographic coordinates of that property so it does not store any personal information. In terms of the accuracy of the DIGIPIN, India Post said that it might come down to the device used to capture the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) location. The DIGIPIN will not replace the traditional six-digit PIN system. Instead, it is intended to act as an extra layer of precision built on top of existing postal addresses. To find out the DIGIPIN for your home or any other location, follow these steps: – Go to This is the dedicated 'Know Your DIGIPIN' portal launched by the Department of Posts for people to easily generate their unique code. – Ensure that your web browser has access to your location. If location is turned off, you may need to enable it in the browser settings. – If a pop-up appears asking for location access, click on Allow. – Tap 'I Consent' if you agree to the terms of the DIGIPIN privacy policy. – You will be able to see the unique alphanumeric code at the bottom right corner of the screen. You can also find out the DIGIPIN for any other location by entering the geographical coordinates and vice-versa.

They have formed partnerships with five Indian startups and foreign OEMs for joint development of cutting-edge solutions. The Bengaluru-based firm, has a three-pronged approach for capability development: acquiring and building upon established Indian defence MSMEs; developing in-house technologies; and forging global alliances. With fresh access to capital, the startup is positioned to double down on this approach and contribute towards programs of national strategic importance, it said. Live Events 'India's defence sector is at a once-in-a-generation inflection point. We will continue to acquire capabilities both organically and inorganically. We are allocating capital for suo-moto development of critical technologies for CUAS and EW systems. In the last six months, we have strengthened Dexcel's design and manufacturing capabilities and are now gearing up to execute large-scale indigenisation and upgrade programs,' said Rohan Gala, co-founder and CEO of Sanlayan. The company plans to increase its engineering headcount fivefold in the next six months. The startup is actively hiring domain experts, R&D scientists, retired armed forces veterans, and senior leadership from both public sector undertakings and private defence giants. "What drew us to Sanlayan was their clear understanding of India's defenceelectronics landscape, and their hybrid strategy to solve it. This is not just a business opportunity; it's a national imperative. We're proud to back a team that's accelerating indigenous capability and contributing meaningfully to India's national security ,' said Ashish Kacholia.
