Charlie Batch Happy Steelers' Will Howard Learning From Bench

Charlie Batch Happy Steelers' Will Howard Learning From Bench originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch knows a thing or two about backing up a Canton-bound quarterback. He spent nine years backing up Steelers icon Ben Roethlisberger and ultimately watched him win a Super Bowl. Advertisement As such, he has a perspective that sixth-round quarterback Will Howard could use after Thursday's news. Pittsburgh finally ended its quarterback drama by signing veteran Aaron Rodgers on a one-year deal that is as much about redemption as it is saying goodbye. With a playoff-ready roster and an esteemed head coach, the organization has the talent to give Rodgers one more shot at playoff contention. On 'Up & Adams,' the former Steelers quarterback was happy to see Howard sitting, primarily because it eliminates the pressure of expectations. Batch spoke to Kay Adams before Rodgers put pen to paper. "They want to make sure he is learning from the pocket first and then from there allow everything else to kind of materialize," Batch said. "There's not a lot of pressure on Will at this particular point, and that's the one thing that he has an advantage of. Because all he has to do is put his head in the playbook, go out there and get the job done, where everybody else is being talked about." Advertisement With Mason Rudolph atop the depth chart before the Rodgers signing, there was a real chance that Howard would see playing time in 2025. Pittsburgh has been able to churn out competent teams with bottom-barrel quarterbacking before, but thrusting Howard into a starting role with playoff expectations would be harsh. Now, Howard can comfortably embrace his role as the third quarterback while soaking up all he can from one of the game's smartest quarterbacks. Batch suggested that in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's offense, Howard is a promising fit, given his proclivity for helping in the run game. "We know the mindset of Arthur Smith," Batch said. "He wants to run the football, and sometimes the quarterback has to pull the ball down on some designed runs that you actually have to use your legs and get the job done. So those are things that are gonna play itself out, but that's kind of down the line." Advertisement The Steelers seem to be gearing up for a franchise quarterback in 2026. But with a year of experience and a season's worth of seasoning from Rodgers, Howard could find himself with the upper hand in a quarterback competition next season. Super-shooter's 71 goals as Fever end Swifts' streak

The great Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard has scored 71 goals as the West Coast Fever ended the NSW Swifts' unbeaten start to the Super Netball season with an impressive 79-68 win at Ken Rosewall Arena. In a heavyweight blockbuster between the competition's two best teams, the Fever (7-2) started quickly and finished with a flourish, extending their winning streak to seven and ending the Swifts' eight-game unbeaten run in 2025. Remarkably, NSW have never tasted victory against West Coast at their Sydney home base, a trend that continued on Saturday night. Unbeaten no more. Fever too strong in Sydney 💥 — Suncorp Super Netball (@SuperNetball) June 7, 2025 "It's really good," said Fowler-Nembhard, the world's best shooter, who missed just one shot attempt all evening. "I came up against some brilliant defenders. "The Swifts are an incredible team and we couldn't come here and underestimate them." At the other end, NSW shooter Grace Nweke racked up a whopping 13 rebounds to go with 48 goals at a less efficient 80 per cent. After a goal-for-goal opening, the Fever created some separation through Fowler-Nembhard, who hit 21 in the opening stanza to give the visitors a 22-16 buffer at the first change. Fowler-Nembhard's connection in attack with the likes of Alice Teague-Neeld, Jordan Cransberg and Shanice Beckford was a feature. The home side rang in the changes in the second period, particularly in defence, as the contest became scrappier and more physical after opening in clean, clinical fashion. Fowler-Nembhard had 37 by half-time, while Nweke was off-target in the Swifts' attack, hounded relentlessly by Kadie-Ann Dehaney. West Coast held sway 39-32 at the main break before NSW lifted through co-captain Paige Hadley and goal attack Helen Housby. Housby's sixth two-pointer trimmed the margin to three before Fowler-Nembard's second-chance goal put the Fever in front 59-55 with a quarter to play. But the last term belonged emphatically to West Coast, who shot 20-of-20 to the Swifts' 11-of-19 to put the rest of the competition on notice.

3 Things WWE Fans Should Watch for During 'Money in the Bank 2025'

3 Things WWE Fans Should Watch for During 'Money in the Bank 2025' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. WWE is making last-minute preparations ahead of "Money in the Bank 2025," and there are some things to watch for. Advertisement Ahead of the go-home episode of "SmackDown," WWE has just four matches booked for the MITB card. The men's and women's ladder matches take up two spots on the card. Then, there's the big tag team match that will see Cody Rhodes tagging with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso to take on Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena and Logan Paul. The WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship will be on the line. Following their heavily praised match at "Backlash," titleholder Lyra Valkyria and Becky Lynch will collide once again. Lynch has demanded that her former protégé raise her hand after the match if she becomes the new champion. Despite just four matches being planned for MITB, there's a lot for fans to look forward to. Plenty of questions will be answered on Saturday. A Seth Rollins Win Is Too Obvious? Paul Heyman aligns with Seth Rollins at the conclusion of "WWE WrestleMania 41" Saturday.(via WWE) Seth Rollins is a major favorite going into the men's MITB match. It makes sense, given that WWE has been making "The Visionary's" new faction look strong on the "Raw" brand. Rollins has backup in Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed if things go awry at "Money in the Bank 2025." Advertisement The question is, would a win for Rollins be too obvious? CM Punk has vowed to do everything in his power to ensure that Rollins doesn't win a world title again. Sami Zayn is aligned with Punk in the fight against Rollins, Paul Heyman, Breakker, and Reed. Punk and Zayn missed out on their chance to compete in the MITB match thanks to Rollins and his group. Is it time for payback? Proceed With Caution Naomi ambushes Jade Cargill following her match with Liv Morgan on "WWE SmackDown.(via WWE) Naomi has done wonders for herself with this character change. She has become obsessed with Bianca Belair, and there's a big match involving the two to be made once the "EST" is cleared to return to action. While Naomi has personal rivalries that haven't been completed, she's also competing in the women's MITB match. Advertisement Looking at the list of participants on the women's side, Naomi might make the most sense to walk out of the Intuit Dome with the briefcase. Naomi's character has a strong unpredictability trait, which could make her the top choice to obtain a world title opportunity whenever she chooses. While the other reported favorite to win the match is Rhea Ripley, she hasn't exactly needed a briefcase to remain in the title picture. Becky Lynch Holds Gold Again? Becky Lynch explains her decision to attack Lyra Valkyria during an episode of "WWE Raw."(via WWE) Becky Lynch gave Lyra Valkyria perhaps the best match of her young career at "Backlash." Valkyria scored the win, but Lynch attacked her after the match. Lynch has vowed to never face Valkyria for the WWE Women's Intercontinental Championship again if she loses on Saturday. Advertisement It's hard to envision Lynch losing to Valkyria twice in a row. The champion needs to face some adversity in this storyline, and a title loss would be the clear choice to get there. WWE could be setting up for a future title match between Lynch and Bayley, who was injured by "The Man" just before "WrestleMania 41."
