Girl, 13, killed in freak accident at Colorado after-school program
A 13-year-old girl tragically died after she fell 25 feet through the attic floor at a Colorado after-school program.
The Pueblo Police Department were called to Rocky Mountain SER - a local food pantry about two hours outside of Denver - on Friday around 7 pm and found Joeylin Kenley McDonald dead at the scene.
It is unclear how she got in the attic or where in the building she fell from, but police said she was with a group of juveniles at the time, KRDO reported.
The fateful acciden t took place during a youth kickball game at the food pantry, the organization said.
'It is with profoundly broken hearts that we at RMSER mournfully acknowledge the heartbreaking news of a tragic loss within our community,' the group continued.
'On Friday evening, during a Youth Kickback event at the RMSER Pueblo Empowerment Center & Resilience Hub, a precious young soul, Joeylin, age 13, tragically passed away in an accident.
'Joeylin was a bright and beloved light in our community, and her sudden passing is a devastating blow to all who knew and loved her.
'While the exact circumstances of this tragedy remain under investigation, we ask the Pueblo community and beyond to join us in lifting in loving support and deep prayer for Joeylin, her family, friends, and all who are grieving during this unimaginable time.'
Rocky Mountain SER manages four different empowerment centers - one in Pueblo, another in Denver, a third in Alamosa, and the fourth in San Luis, according to its website.
Joeylin's heartbroken family has remembered her as a 'smart, headstrong, beautiful, sassy, sweet, caring and one hell of a hard worker.'
'Joeylin was the brightest soul in the world. She is smart, headstrong, beautiful, sassy, sweet, caring and one hell of a hard worker. A true force to be reckoned with,' her aunt Caitlyn Valdez said.
Valdez said her late niece attended Connect Charter School in Pueblo and was 'all about education like her mama.'
'This coming weekend her team will be competing at State history day competition. Joeylin has many friends who honored her at school today by wearing her favorite color, pink,' she shared.
The middle schooler enjoyed many sports and activities, including soccer, dance and pageants.
'Joeylin played soccer for the Rangers, who are undefeated this season! This was her 10th year and 20th season. She enjoyed soccer very much.
'Joeylin [was] also an alumnus/contestant in the Miss Pueblo County scholarship pageant, where last year she was runner-up for Miss Pre-Teen and also crowned Miss Spirit 2024.
'Joeylin absolutely [loved] the pageant and was involved with lots of community services around Pueblo.
'Joeylin [danced] for Sarah Shaw. She [had] been dancing for many years, in jazz, tap, hip hop, and ballet. She [had] a recital coming up in May. She [had] been dancing since she was 7 years old.'
'She [was] extremely dedicated to her brothers and sisters, and you could never decide if she was a mama's girl or a daddy's girl. She [held] a special bond with each and every one of her five siblings,' her grieving aunt stated.
'Mourning the loss of such a beautiful soul will be a daily task for the rest of our lives. Joeylin [was] one of a kind and will never be forgotten.'
Her father, Jeremy McDonald, posted several images of his late daughter to Facebook and wrote about his 'beautiful baby girl.'
'You are my beautiful baby girl I'm losing my mind not being able to hear your voice and it's crazy I miss you yelling at me stomping your feet at me when you didn't get your way, I miss your beautiful smile when you walked into the room, Joeylin daddy and mommy miss you so much,' Jeremy said.
On Saturday, Joeylin's mother, Lauren McDonald, said her 'beautiful sweet girl became and angel tonight.'
'Please pray for my other babies for healing. We are all feeling broken right now. Joeylin there won't be a day you don't cross our minds. We love you sweet girl,' she added.
A Meal Train donation page has been created to help her family during this challenging time.
'She was the light in the dark, the stars in the sky. She will be greatly missed,' the page said.
As of Tuesday morning, more than $800 had been raised. It is unclear when her funeral will be.

Award-winning police officer faces sack for grabbing boy, 15, by throat and shouting 'stop screaming like a little b****' during arrest, misconduct panel told
An award winning police officer has been accused of grabbing a teenage suspect by the throat, called him a 'b***h' and threatening to 'smash him up'. Pc Lorne Castle is facing misconduct proceedings for allegedly making the 15-year-old boy feel 'frightened and intimidated' as he arrested him for an assault. A hearing was told that the teenager had been wanted for assaulting members of the public and was carrying a knife at the time of his arrest. The officer ran towards the masked teenager, known as Witness A, and pushed him against a wall before dragging him to the ground and sitting on him. He then shouted at him to 'show me your f*****g hands' and then put his hands and finger in the hoodie-wearing teen's face. When Witness A was unable to move his arm Pc Castle told him to 'stop screaming like a little b***h' as he called for back-up on the radio. He grabbed the boy by the throat and threatened to 'smash up' the boy if he resisted. When his back-up arrived, he ordered colleagues to put the boy in leg restraints. Witness A was left 'petrified' by PC Castle's behaviour in Bournemouth, Dorset, at 5.30pm on January 27, 2024. The officer is accused of committing gross misconduct in regards to authority, respect and courtesy and conduct and use of force and is facing a disciplinary hearing at Dorset Police HQ. The 46-year-old married father of two has twice won a national award since joining Dorset Police over 10 years ago Last year he was awarded a National Humane Society gong for saving a person from drowning in the River Avon in Christchurch and had previously been awarded Neighbourhood Police Officer of the Year. He accepts he committed misconduct but denies his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct as he said the boy had been arrested twice for assaults on unrelated people. Pc Castle said the boy was wearing a face covering and at risk of escape as he had previously fled a Town Ranger. Mark Ley-Morgan, representing the Dorset Police, said: 'At about 5.30pm on January 27, 2024 in Bournemouth you arrested a 15 year-old boy, Witness A, on suspicion of assault. 'You approached Witness A at speed and took hold of him before telling him what he was under arrest for. 'You forced him to the ground and he was lying on his back with his face up. 'You repeatedly stated to Witness A 'show me your f*****g hands'. It should be clear to you he was frightened and intimidated by your actions. 'It should have been clear to you when you were on top of him that he could not comply with your instructions. 'When he replied that he couldn't you grabbed hold of his back with your right hand and pointed to his face with your index finger and shouted 'stop screaming like a little b***h, do you understand, shut up'. 'Witness A asked you what he had done and you grabbed him by the throat then called for assistance and said on the radio he was behaving 'like a b***h'. 'You said 'stop resisting or I'm going to smash you up' then you put both hands on Witness A's throat. 'You put Witness A in a head lock and you told other officers to put him in leg restraints.' In the footage the boy, who can't be identified, can be heard pleading for Pc Castle to stop and repeatedly stating 'I've done nothing wrong, I don't deserve this'. Mr Ley-Morgan told the hearing that in the days after the incident Pc Castle put in a report that he 'completely stood by his actions and use of language'. Pc Castle had said in his report that he had used the term 'b***h' and 'smash you up' as this was language he thought the boy would understand and he wanted to assert verbal dominance without having to use more physicality. But more recently Pc Castle had reflected on the incident and felt he had made 'serious mistakes' during the arrest which were borne out of anxiety at putting himself in danger. However, Mr Ley-Morgan argued that this change of heart was a 'cynical attempt by Pc Castle to garner sympathy'. Mr Ley-Morgan told the hearing: 'Looking at the video it is clear that you didn't take Witness A to the ground because he was resisting. 'He was taken completely by surprise when you smashed him up against the wall and took him to the floor. 'It is clear from his reaction that Witness A was petrified of what the officer was doing to him. 'No reasonable officer would have thought Witness A was attempting to escape or doing anything that could be described as aggressive or threatening. 'Witness A was grabbed by the throat, had a finger jabbed in the face and his face slapped. 'Pc Castle breached standards of professional behaviour by failing to act with self control and failing to treat him with courtesy or respect. 'He abused his power and authority and his behaviour undermined confidence in the police. 'It was totally unnecessary and disproportionate, and in our view this is so serious dismissal would be justified.' Pc Susannah Justice was one of the other officers to attend the arrest and told the hearing the suspect was resisting their attempts to detain him. But she said she was concerned about Pc Castle's use of the word 'b***h' and 'smash him up'. The hearing continues.

A PAEDO school teacher sexually abused a 15-year-old boy and sent him naked pictures on a daily basis. Reagan Gray, 27, has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the teen, who she met at Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas - Bill Clinton's former church - where she volunteered. 5 5 The abuse began in 2020 when Gray, from Monticello, was 23 and a teacher at Sylvan Hills middle School, and continued through the summer of 2021. The teen told investigators that Gray had given him oral sex multiple times - but nothing more serious as she wanted him to "stay pure". According to the court affadavit, the teen's parents first raised the alarm five years ago after discovering texts between the pair. They alerted the church's head pastor, Steven Smith, who spoke to Gray - but was assured by her there had been no physical relationship. Gray was suspended and prescribed counselling, but returned within weeks and continued to abuse the boy, switching their communication to Snapchat, the court heard. Years later, during a counselling session with Smith in September 2023, Gray admitted her contact with the boy was "sexual in nature" and had continued after her return, the court was told. Police were called, and the boy told investigators they had sex between five and 10 times in Gray's car or apartment during the fall of 2020. He said Gray had not wanted them to have intercourse "in order for [him] to stay pure". Gray was arrested and charged last year, initially with first-degree sexual assault as she was in "a position of trust or authority". Soon after charges were layed, she was fired by the Pulaski County Special School District. She was sentenced on Monday to six years' probation, ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and ordered to submit a DNA sample. Gray was also barred from having any contact with the victim, and has been placed on the sex offender registry. After sentencing, the boy's parents said in a statement that they were "grateful that our son has one less painful load to carry," reported the Mail Online. 5 They added: "What's difficult to reconcile is how many adults repeatedly failed him - people with power, responsibility, or influence who looked the other way.
