Weather warnings issued for Spain with 'unseasonal' temperatures forecast
Areas of the country are experiencing intense temperatures which are not typical for the time of year.
Swathes of Spain are experiencing temperatures of up to 41C as the country sizzles under an intense Iberian heatwave this week. The mercury in Seville is to soar to an unseasonal 41C. And neighbouring Portugal is also experiencing the weather front with Lisbon seeing highs of 37C, according to the MET office.
Today, Thursday, was one of the hottest days forecast and that is set to continue all weekend. At this time of year, temperatures are usually a more manageable 28C in the south of the country. The hot weather has prompted warnings from Spain's weather forecasters.
While the heat will ease off slightly at the start of next week, the temperatures have seen the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET), Spain's equivalent of the MET Office, issue temperature warnings for Seville, Cordoba, Lleida, Tarragona and Valle del Guadalquivir, reports The Express.
For the next four days, temperatures in Seville will reach spike, with the UV level reaching 10.
Met Office advice for a UV level of that scale is to spend time in the shade between 11AM and 3PM. Humidity is set to sit around 40% during the mornings and drop during the day.
Temperatures overnight will stay at around 25°C.
The AEMET has also warned of storms on Friday, May 30, in many areas in the north and south of the country.
The Spanish forecaster said the phenomenon is due to the presence of a "powerful anticyclone" in the Azores which will reach the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands.
The anticyclone will carry warm, dry and dusty air from Africa over Andalusia, the Alboran Sea and the central peninsula.
North-western Spain and the north of Portugal are expected to be the areas where temperatures are the coolest.
The forecasted floods will spark fears for authorities, coming months after more than 224 people died in floods in Valencia and surrounding areas.
And spiralling temperatures will also be cause for concern as in recent years the country has been devastated by wildfires.
In 2017, Galicia in northern Spain was savaged by a natural blaze, while in 2022 Spain was the worst-hit country in the EU's second-worst wildfire season on record.
And in 2024, hundreds of firefighters were deployed to tackle wildfires near Valencia, where hundreds of residents in a nearby village had to evacuated.
The country has also had water shortage problems in recent years due to long spells of hot weather.
The UK is also set to be hit with warm weather with temperatures forecast to hit 29C in parts of the country.
Weather charts have revealed an Iberian jet stream and the 29C temperatures will hit one part of the country on June 11, reports the Mirror.
A forecast map from Netweather for 3pm on 11 June has predicted the warmest temperatures will be felt in southeastern England. This forecast has suggested the area in and around London could reach a high of 29C.
It has shown most of England and parts of northern Scotland under a blanket of red temperatures.

England coach Tuchel expects players to suffer in World Cup heat
LONDON, June 3 (Reuters) - England coach Thomas Tuchel will attend FIFA's Club World Cup starting this month to observe how players cope with the expected hot and humid weather conditions. Next year's World Cup, taking place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, could be one of the hottest in the tournament's history. "It is important to see matches now in America, and in Miami at three in the afternoon," Tuchel said as he prepared his team for their World Cup qualifier against Andorra in Barcelona. "I will see that. How it looks, and we need to understand how to cool the players down, to drink. What our options are." England are top of qualifying Group K and almost certain to qualify for next year's tournament where they will be among the favourites for the title. But Tuchel says the conditions will be harsh. "Let's see because it is after the season, so it will be very similar. The actual experience is for the players, but I have done pre-season there in Orlando and I will be very surprised if we do not suffer," he said. "Suffering is one of the headlines for this World Cup." England are preparing for the Andorra game in the Spanish city of Girona and are using heat tents to test the players reaction and recovery to training in heat and humidity. Sixteen stadiums will be used at next year's World Cup with predictions of potentially extreme temperatures. In Dallas, one of the host cities, in an average year more than 80% of June and July days exceed 28 degrees Celsius. A study led by Brunel University found that, according to analysis of 20 years of weather data, 14 of the 16 host stadiums would top 28 degrees Celsius on a daily basis in June and July with four likely to hit 32 degrees in a hotter than summer. FIFPRO, the world players union, recommends that if there is Wet Bulb Globe Temperature of between 28-32 degree, cooling breaks should take place around the 30th and 75th minutes. It says that if there is a WBGT of more than 32 degrees, training and matches should be rescheduled.

Scots to see piping 25C temperatures in 'Spanish scorcher' heading for the UK
Scots are expecting more searing temperatures in mid-June, after this current showery spell. Scots enjoyed this year's first 'mini-heatwave', which lasted throughout most of May, as we saw the sunniest spring on record. And while we're currently seeing our fair share of rain, temperatures in the UK are set to soar in a 'Spanish scorcher' that's on its way, with the mercury in Scotland to reach a piping 25C. It comes as hot air blows over to the UK from sunny Spain, which has hit a searing 40C in early summer temperatures across the Iberian peninsula. And as this 'Spanish scorcher' makes its way over, the current showery spell is set to come to a welcome end. According to advanced weather maps on WX Charts, Thursday, June 12 is set to kick off the scorcher, with Scottish temperatures set to soar to a piping 25C in northern parts of the country, rivalling the current hottest temperature of the year so far. Auchincruvie, in South Ayrshire, and Tyndrum, in Stirlingshire, both recorded temperatures of 25.5C on Tuesday, May 13, but it's yet to be seen whether the piping weather expected on June 12 will break this current record. The mercury is forecast to range between a reasonable 19C and a searing 24C in the central belt on this day, while the Western Isles can expect cooler temperatures of around 14C. As usual, the south of England is set to see even hotter temperatures over the coming scorcher that are expected to reach a whopping 30C. The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: 'Summer is starting, so bring on the rain. But temperatures are forecast to rise in the second week of June, with computer models showing Spain's exceptional heat making a beeline for the UK. 'The likelihood is growing of temperatures around 30C or just above in mid-June, as hot air from the continent pushes towards Britain.' BBC Weather said: 'After changeable conditions, there's a possible warmer spell next week. And further into June should be mostly settled and warm, with largely summery and dry conditions." And these hot temperatures are expected to be recurring throughout summer, as the Met Office has predicted it to be a 'hotter than usual' season. The Met Office's three-month outlook suggests that the likelihood of a hot summer is higher than usual, bringing an increased risk of heatwaves. The forecast indicates that it is 2.3 times more likely than normal for the UK to experience a hot meteorological summer, which started yesterday, June 1, and ends on August 31. However, the national forecaster does admit that it can be difficult to predict the weather for the whole season so far in advance. The Met Office said: "It's not possible to predict the exact weather for an entirety of meteorological summer, and it's also not possible to predict the exact temperatures summer weather may reach. "When talking over such long periods, weather models are run hundreds of times to give an indication of the likely scenarios and give probabilities of different dominant conditions. "While long range outlooks, used primarily by contingency planners, suggest an above-average chance of warmer-than-average conditions, this is not an indication of an imminent record-breaking summer, as the cooler, or more average conditions remain possible." In terms of sunshine, we've already seen more than we had for the entirety of last summer, and if the Met Office's long range forecast for the next three months is accurate, Scots are set to see plenty more beach days, barbecues and picnics over the coming weeks and months.
