Former footballer ‘assaulted Sugababes star and banned her wearing red lipstick'
Taiwo Leo Atieno, 39, faces eight charges relating to his ex-girlfriend, Ms Buchanan, during an approximately 13-year period.
The former Luton Town and Kenya national team player appeared via video link from HMP Wormwood Scrubs wearing a suit and tie.

He was not asked to enter pleas and Judge Ian Bourne KC granted his release from prison on conditional bail during the Harrow Crown Court case sitting at Southwark on Thursday.
Atieno, from Brixton, south London, is charged with assaulting the founding Sugababes singer between January 1 2012 and January 1 2015 causing her actual bodily harm.
He is also charged with controlling or coercive behaviour against Ms Buchanan between December 29 2015 and May 1 2018.
The charge alleges that he opened Ms Buchanan's correspondences, would not let her wear red lipstick, and that he controlled her finances and when she could go to the gym or shower.
The charge claims this caused Ms Buchanan 'serious alarm or distress which had a substantial adverse effect' on her 'usual day-to-day activities'.
He is accused of doing this 'at a time when he knew or ought to have known that the behaviour will have a serious effect' on her.
Atieno is also charged with six counts of breaching a non-molestation order, twice by allegedly posting information about Ms Buchanan to a third party online on July 18 and July 20 last year.
He is also accused of breaching the order by emailing Ms Buchanan on August 2, November 19, December 19 and December 23 2024.
His bail conditions include that he must surrender his passport by Monday afternoon.

The judge said: 'There must not be any contact either directly or indirectly with the complainant Keisha Buchanan.
'That means any form of contact, whether it be by email or other sort of social media messaging system – any contact at all'.
Julian Malins KC, defending, said his client 'fully understands it, and assures the court through us that he will abide by that'.
Atieno was also told not to apply for international travel or to enter the London Borough of Barnet.
He is due to enter pleas on August 22 this year and his trial is set for April 13 2026.
Ms Buchanan was a teenager when she became one of the original members of the Sugababes with Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy in 1998.
Donaghy left in 2001 and was replaced by Heidi Range.
Buena was replaced by Amelle Berrabah in 2005 and Buchanan, the final original member, was replaced by Jade Ewen in 2009.
The founding trio regained the right to use the Sugababes name in 2019 and reunited in 2022 to perform at Glastonbury Festival.

Hundreds of Kate Bush fans gather Scots city park to recreate Wuthering Heights dance
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HUNDREDS of Kate Bush fans flocked to a park in a Scottish city to recreate the star's Wuthering Heights music video. Fans of the music legend gathered at the Meadows Festival yesterday to celebrate the 1978 song. The first event was held twelve years ago in Brighton when British performance group Shambush came up with the idea in 2013. And this year, people came together to recreate the dance in the song's iconic video in Scotland's capital city. Music fans of all ages dressed in gorgeous, bright red dresses similar to the one that Kate wore in the original video. And many beamed as they were taught the same dance moves while music played in the background. Many women wore long red dresses with black belts, and little girls wore matching outfits and red jumpers with red hairpieces. Some men were even spotted wearing red dresses as well as they got in on the action. The event started at 4pm, giving performers time to get checked in, fix their outfits and collect merchandise before a welcome at 4.30pm. A warm-up then started at 4.35pm before the dance was taught ten minutes later. After a quick water break, the dance started at 5.10pm and attendees performed it twice before posing for a group photo. Strictly legends return to the stage for new tour after huge endorsement from show judge A website was set up ahead of the event, sharing all the details for those who wished to attend. It read: "Welcome to The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever – Edinburgh 2025! "Get ready to dress up in your best red dress and join us for a fun-filled afternoon of dancing and celebrating the iconic music video by Kate Bush. "The event will take place on Saturday, June 7, at 4.30pm as part of the programme at the Meadows Festival. INSTANTLY CAPITVATED KATE Bush wrote her chart-topping song Wuthering Heights whe she was just 18 years old. The hit song was her debut single and became an unexpected number one hit almost 50 years ago back in 1978. It was actually the first song that was written and performed by a female artist to reach the UK top spot. Despite the song being named after Emily Brontë's novel, it wasn't the book itself that inspired Kate, now 66, to write the song. In an interview in 1978, she told the BBC that the broadcaster's 1967 TV series of the story is what gave her the idea. Kate explained that she came across an episode of the telly adaptation and was blown away by it's startling imagery. At the time, she said: "I just managed to catch the very last few minutes where there was a hand coming through the window and blood everywhere and glass. "And I just didn't know what was going on, and someone explained the story." "Let's come together as a community and recreate the magic of the Wuthering Heights dance. "Don't miss out on this unforgettable experience!" Pictures and videos of the event have been widely shared on social media, and many flocked to the comments to praise the dancers. One person said: "Wish I was there... great!" Another added: "Omg, I wish I'd been there!" Someone else wrote: "Love it! Well done". And a fourth posted: "That's pretty cool!" While a fifth chimed in: "Wow, this looks fabulous! Well done".

Glastonbury welcomes back pop star for 'secret set' two years after breakdown
Lewis Capaldi's 2023 Glastonbury Festival set left the nation in tears as he broke down on stage – now, two years on, he could be set for a comeback. The Someone You Loved hitmaker has been absent from the spotlight since he struggled to finish his performance at Worthy Farm due to vocal issues and a Tourette's flare-up. During his tune Bruises, he asked the thousands-strong crowd for help, telling them, 'Sing with me, as loud as you can,' fighting back the waterworks. In recent months, the performer has made a slow return to public life, having previously cancelled all work commitments to focus on his health and mental well-being. Consequently, the Mail on Sunday reports that Lewis could make a surprise appearance at Glasto 2025, which kicks off on June 25 until 29. According to the paper, the 28-year-old will play in the 'secret slot' on the iconic Pyramid Stage on the Friday. He will follow Alanis Morrisette, whose set will begin at 6:15pm and end at 7:15pm. There'll then be an hour to fill before Biffy Clyro at quarter past eight. If the whispers are true, Lewis will join a host of big stars on the Glastonbury lineup this year. Olivia Rodrigo and The 1975 are headlining, as well as Neil Young. Meanwhile, Sir Rod Stewart will play the coveted Legends Slot, although doubt has been cast over his appearance in recent days after the 80-year-old cancelled a string of gigs due to sickness. As for Lewis, his mighty comeback will surely be music to the ears of his fans. Following his crushing Glastonbury set two summers back, Lewis was full of apologies. 'Glastonbury, I'm really sorry. I'm a bit annoyed with myself,' he said at the time. Shortly after, Lewis announced he would be taking a break for the 'foreseeable future' to 'get [his] mental and physical health in order'. He admitted it was the 'most difficult decision' he's ever had to make, but it was 'obvious' things couldn't continue as they were. Lewis explained that he still needed to 'adjust' to the impact Tourette's was having on his life. The Scottish songwriter has spoken openly about living with the condition, with which he was diagnosed in September 2022. It featured heavily in his 2023 NTA-winning documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now, in which he also discussed the pressures of fame and his rapid rise to stardom. Latest sightings of Lewis include when he actually returned to Glastonbury last year as a punter, putting in a low-profile appearance and blending in with fellow revellers during Dua Lipa's set. A source told MailOnline at the time: 'He met a group of friends at Dua Lipa, and there was loads of hugging going on. 'He looked like he was having the best time, finger in the air—singing along. We could all hear him. But then he left after a couple of songs with all his mates.' Another insider told The Sun that Lewis looked 'so happy' and said 'how pleased he was to be back at Worthy Farm'. Then, last month, Lewis gave his first live performance since embarking on a brief hiatus. In an unexpected but pleasant moment, he showed up as a surprise guest at Tom Walker's show for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), which works in suicide prevention, at Assembly Halls in Edinburgh. Lewis sang six songs, including chart-topper Someone You Loved, with fans present later saying on social media that it was 'the best thing ever' to see him. Others said it left them 'close to tears', while Tom was 'delighted' that Lewis said yes at the 'last minute'. More Trending 'We've bumped into each other a few times over the years backstage at [festivals] and events, and he's a total legend,' he told the BBC. 'I know how much pressure this industry can put on artists at times, especially after a bit of a break. 'So, for him to be able to play a little secret gig in a safe space without all the phones, the noise, and the expectations was perfect. I'm buzzing to have been a part of it.' Alas, there's no footage of the magical moment, as the audience was instructed not to film the event, having had their phones placed in sealed pouches. Got a story? Bruce Springsteen joined by Paul McCartney at Liverpool concert
The American musician was joined on stage by the 82-year-old Beatles star during the second of two shows at Anfield stadium on Saturday, with Sir Paul then providing vocals as the pair played the band's Can't Buy Me Love. Springsteen, 75, and his E Street Band are in the UK as part of his Land of Hope and Dreams Tour, which kicked off with three shows in Manchester last month. Sir Paul McCartney previously performed with Bruce Springsteen at Glastonbury in 2022 (Danny Lawson/PA) Footage shared on social media showed the surprised crowd cheering loudly as Sir Paul was introduced, before he then playfully pointed at Springsteen and the pair shared an embrace. Before he left the stage after their performance, Sir Paul addressed the crowd and reportedly said: 'Thank you, Scousers.' The two men have previously performed together on several occasions, most notably when Sir Paul delivered a headline set at Glastonbury in 2022. Announced as a surprise all the way from the east coast of America, Springsteen joined Sir Paul, who became the festival's oldest solo headliner, as they played hits Glory Days and I Wanna Be Your Man on the Pyramid Stage. In 2012, Sir Paul had joined Springsteen on stage at the end of the singer's headline slot at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park, London, but both stars found their microphones cut off before they could address the crowds after exceeding the curfew. Beginning his career in the 1960s, Springsteen has gone on to have 12 UK top 10 albums and four UK top 10 singles and is best known for songs such as Born In The USA, Dancing In The Dark and Born To Run. His Land of Hope and Dreams Tour, which includes 16 dates across six European countries, will conclude in Milan, Italy, on July 3.
