Texas softball shuts out Tennessee 2-0, advance to national championship series
Mac Morgan and Teagan Kavan combined for a three-hit shutout as Texas softball beats Tennessee 2-0 to advance to national championship series. The Lady Longhorns will await the winner of the the Texas Tech-Oklahoma series tonight to find out their opponent in the title series.
Morgan started the game on the mound and pitched four shutout innings, scattering three hits. Kavan entered the game to start the fifth inning and pitched no-hit ball the rest of the way.
Tennessee actually didn't get another hit after Vols hitting coach Craig Snider was ejected for arguing a strike call in the fourth inning.
Katie Stewart's solo home run to left field in the fourth inning was all the offense Texas would need against the Lady Vols. A throwing error by third baseman Taylor Pannell that scored Joley Mitchell gave Texas an insurance run in the eight inning.
Kavan was the hero of UT's win over Oklahoma on Saturday when she pitched a complete game shutout to beat the Sooners for the first time in the Women's College World Series. The West Des Moines, Iowa native pitched Saturday with a heavy heart after learning her grandmother passed away that morning.
Texas will play in the national championship series for the third time in four years. Both in 2022 and 2024, the Lady Longhorns list to the Sooners.
Oklahoma must beat the Lady Red Raiders twice on Monday evening to advance to the title series and a shot at a fifth straight national title. Texas Tech has two chances to beat the Sooners and advance to play Texas.
