Thousands rally in San Francisco against ICE raids
SAN FRANCISCO — Thousands of people marched through San Francisco's Civic Center and Mission neighborhoods on Monday night in protests that were 'overwhelmingly peaceful,' police said.
Demonstrators rallied against Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids across the country and expressed solidarity with immigrant communities, CNN affiliate KGO reported.
'At the very end of the night, two small groups broke off and committed vandalism and other criminal acts,' the San Francisco Police Department said.
Police said they detained multiple people who refused to comply with orders, made arrests, and are currently addressing one unresolved situation.
'I'm deeply concerned about what's going on in Los Angeles and all around the country. California, we are better because of our diversity, and for people to be torn away from school graduations, torn away from their children, that's not right. We have to come out here and tell people that's not right,' Holly Minch, who marched with a sign that read 'MELT ICE,' told KGO.
The police said they coordinated with public safety agencies under the leadership of San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie to 'protect numerous First Amendment actions' in the affected neighborhoods.On Sunday, about 150 people, including some under the age of 18, were arrested near the Immigration Services building. Police said the arrests were made after protesters ignored dispersal orders and engaged in acts of violence and vandalism.Anti-ICE protests have popped up around the country, including in New York, Atlanta, Seattle, Dallas and Louisville. — CNN

The speed at which agents are trying to arrest migrants in the United States has raised alarm among immigrant advocates and former ICE House border czar Tom Homan maintained this week that despite protests, ICE operations to enforce Trump's immigration policies would continue.'They'll continue every day, not only in California, Los Angeles, they're gonna continue every city across the country – we have teams throughout the country that are out there looking for those in the country,' Homan told CNN's Kaitlan Collins Monday on 'The Source.' 'We're in every city and country, and ICE is going to be out every single day and will continue to be there regardless what's happening in LA.'The arrests have also strained ICE detention, serving as yet another reminder of the logistical challenges the administration still faces as it tries to ramp up deportations. Masked rioters in Northern Ireland attack police, torch houses for second night
BALLYMENA, Northern Ireland — Hundreds of masked rioters attacked police and set homes and cars on fire in the Northern Irish town of Ballymena on Tuesday in the second successive night of disorder that followed a protest over an alleged sexual assault in the town, according to Reuters news agency. Police said they were dealing with 'serious disorder' in the town, which is about 45 km (30 miles) from the capital Belfast, and urged people to avoid the area. Officers in riot gear and driving armored vans responded with water cannon and plastic baton rounds after being attacked by petrol bombs, scaffolding and rocks that rioters gathered by knocking down nearby walls, a Reuters witness said. Hundreds of protesters had gathered in Ballymena earlier on Monday in response to a case involving two teenage boys who appeared in court that day, accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in the County Antrim town. Local media reported that the charges were read to the teenagers via an interpreter. Fifteen police officers were injured on Monday, with some requiring hospital treatment. Separate protests on Tuesday had earlier blocked off some roads in Belfast, another Reuters witness said, but no unrest was reported in other parts of the British-run region. The British government and local politicians condemned the violence.
