Warframe is smoothing out its new player experience

Business Mayor12-05-2025

A player's first steps into a new game can often be overwhelming, but that difficulty leaps exponentially when you're starting an MMO of 12 years. Warframe has expanded from a third-person action game to a hugely complex adventure with tons of side quests and bonus activities to explore, and now developer Digital Extremes is making changes to smooth the onboarding process for new players.
The next major update (titled Yareli Prime) lands on May 21, followed by the long-awaited Isleweaver update in June. These will bring in much-needed quality of life features, including a new feature called Arsenal Categories. With more than 50 different Warframes, it can be hard to tell which suit is best suited (pun intended) for a given mission. Arsenal Categories divides Warframes into Damage, Crowd Control, Support, Survival, and Stealth so players can more readily identify types at a glance.
Digital Extremes is quick to point out that every Warframe can handle every situation with the right build, however. The update isn't intended to shoehorn players into a specific style. Warframe
In addition to Arsenal Categories, weapons will also be split into different categories that 'identify core characteristics shared between weapons.' There are primary, secondary, and melee categories that partition weapons into their main type, such as rifle, throwable, or scythe.
Warframe offers so much content that it can feel overwhelming for new players, but these changes will make it easier to make those initial character choices about how you want to approach the game.
When the Isleweave update arrives in June, Junctions — a type of solo mission that introduces players to new mechanics — will also receive QoL changes. Previously, selecting a Junction would launch the mission, but it now opens a screen that shows the player all possible rewards and required tasks. Players will also be able to receive rewards upon completing a Junction task, rather than at the end of the mission after defeating the boss. And that's just scraping the surface of Digital Extremes's updates for Warframe . The team laid out an incredibly detailed Reddit post with everything you can look forward to in the next couple of months.

Ubisoft shares plummet 20% on sharp net bookings drop, disappointing outlook

-- Ubisoft Entertainment (EPA:UBIP) reported lower-than-expected earnings for fiscal year 2024-25 as net bookings declined 20.5% year-over-year, reflecting weaker partnerships and intense industry competition, and issued a disappointing outlook for the fiscal 2025-2026. The video game publisher posted an adjusted loss per share of €0.56, wider than analysts' estimates of a €0.47 loss. The company's shares plummeted more than 20% in Paris trading Thursday. Net bookings for the full year came in at €1.85 billion, slightly below the company's target and down from €2.32 billion in the previous year. Sales fell 17.5% to €1.90 billion, though marginally beating expectations of €1.89 billion. Ubisoft reported an operating loss of €82.6 million compared to a profit of €313.6 million a year earlier. Despite the challenging year, CEO Yves Guillemot highlighted some positives, stating: "Assassin's Creed Shadows reaffirmed the power of the Assassin's Creed brand, with a highly favorable community response from long-time fans and new players alike." The company generated positive free cash flow of €128 million, ahead of its target. However, Ubisoft expects approximately breakeven non-IFRS operating income and negative free cash flow in fiscal 2025-26 as it continues its transformation efforts. Ubisoft issued a weak outlook for 2025-2026, citing additional game delays. The company expects flat net bookings year-on-year, break-even adjusted EBIT, and over €100 million in negative free cash flow—all significantly below consensus estimates. Q1 guidance was also soft, with projected net bookings of €310 million, 13% below expectations, despite strong interest in Assassin's Creed Shadows. "It's clear that Tencent's €1.16bn cash injection into the group (to acquire a 25% stake in the new subsidiary) has eased pressure on the balance sheet, perhaps making the decision to delay games easier," Deutsche Bank analyst George Brown commented. "However, it is clear that further efforts need to be made to reduce poor profitability, notably with regards to headcount," he added. Brown highlights that Ubisoft employs around 18,000 people—two to three times more than U.S. peers—despite generating significantly lower revenue. "In the meantime, investors have little to be excited for with regards to the pipeline in FY-26 with no major games announced," he said. Luke Juricic contributed to this report. Ubisoft says its Prince of Persia remake will finally arrive by early 2026

In Ubisoft's latest earnings release, the company reveals that it expects the Prince of Persia remake to be one of the games that will help its bottom line during the next fiscal year, FY2025-2026. Since Ubisoft's FY2024-2025 ended on March 31st, 2025, that means the new game will have to go on sale before March 31st, 2026. But that also means it could arrive any time now. We're already two months into FY2025-2026. I'd be surprised if we didn't get an announcement at the Summer Game Fest next month. Ubisoft suggests that its top games in FY2025-2026 will be Assassin's Creed Shadows and Siege X, but names Prince of Persia as one of the games that'll contribute alongside Anno 117: Pax Romana, Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence . I'm eagerly awaiting the chance to try it, as the original is one of my top five favorite games of all time. I loved its storytelling, voice acting, incredible music, and its then-groundbreaking ability to rewind time. But I won't deny I'm a bit worried. The remake is far from the most-delayed game at Ubisoft, of course: I believe Beyond Good and Evil 2 currently holds the all-time record at over 15 years since it was first announced. Incidentally, the first BG&E game shipped just a month after Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time . READ SOURCE

Ubisoft says its Prince of Persia remake will finally arrive by early 2026

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was originally supposed to arrive on January 21st, 2021. Since then, it's been delayed three times, got shipped to a different studio, reportedly started over from scratch, and may have lost the original writer and amazing performances of its English voice actor. But Ubisoft has revealed the game is finally on the way — and will go on sale before April 2026, as spotted by Insider Gaming. Both Yuri Lowenthal — the Prince's iconic English-language voice actor — and Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner were attached to the remake when it was announced in 2020. (Lowenthal once suggested the remake was going to 'keep all of Jordan Mechner's brilliant writing' and thanked Ubisoft for not picking a 'younger, hotter actor' instead of him.) But after development moved to Ubisoft Montréal in 2022, it's not clear whether either is still involved. Here's hoping there was good reason to overhaul the game, unlike that other time a game company replaced Yuri Lowenthal's face!
