PM Muhammed S. Al-Sudani made a phone call on Tuesday to the players of Duhok Sports Club ahead of their final match in the 2025 Gulf Champions Cup against Kuwait's Al-Qadisia Club, to be held this evening at Duhok International Stadium.
He congratulated the players and all those who contributed to reaching the final, a moment of pride for Iraqi football and the Iraqi people, stating that this match holds significance for all Iraqis, said the PM's media office in a statement - received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
Al-Sudani expressed his wishes for a spirited performance in the match against their Kuwaiti brothers, encouraging them to adhere to the coach's strategy in full detail to secure victory and win the cup in fulfillment of the aspirations of Iraqi sports fans.
The coaching staff and players of the team expressed their gratitude to the Prime Minister for his support and encouragement ahead of this important match.

In a statement on Facebook, the IFA announced that it had sent a letter to the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) requesting the highest levels of openness and impartiality in the process of selecting the host country or countries for the fourth round of Asian qualifiers. The IFA has said that it is fully prepared to handle all organizational, security, and financial responsibilities pertaining to hosting matches, with assistance from the Iraqi government and state agencies. In the fourth round of qualifying, the six teams that finished in third and fourth place in their respective groups during the third stage will be divided into two groups. The team that wins each group will qualify directly for the World Cup finals. Meanwhile, the two teams that finish in second place will compete in a playoff to decide which team will represent Asia in an international playoff.

Shafaq News/ Iraq took part in the international preparatory conference for Expo Belgrade 2027 on Tuesday in the Serbian capital, alongside delegations from more than 120 countries. The head of the Iraqi delegation Hanoun Karim affirmed that Iraq's participation is backed directly by the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Trade and 'aims to showcase the country's positive image on the international stage.' Hanoun noted that Iraq seeks to present a comprehensive national pavilion that reflects its ancient civilization and highlights its development ambitions across economic, cultural, and investment sectors. 'We affirmed Iraq's commitment to building effective partnerships with participating countries and organizations and to learning from international expertise in managing and executing major events, in line with the highest global standards,' Hanoun added. The Iraqi delegation also took part in several technical sessions alongside other countries, exchanging perspectives on pavilion design and planning for the accompanying cultural and commercial programs. The first day of the conference featured presentations on the organizational plans for the Expo, as well as an overview of the venue and infrastructure currently under development in Belgrade. Expo Belgrade 2027 is a specialized international exhibition recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions, scheduled to take place from May 15 to August 15, 2027, under the theme 'Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.' It will be the first Expo held in the Western Balkans. Participating countries are expected to present national pavilions that highlight their cultural heritage, innovations, and development goals.
