Man sentenced to 222 years for rape and robbery

Notorious rapist and sexual offender, Lesley Morwamashobe Mohlala, has been handed a heavy sentence of 222 years imprisonment for rape and robbery.
Mohlala has long terrorised communities across Nebo and Hlogotlou policing areas in Sekhukhune District.
In the areas, he targeted government buildings, clinics, traffic stations, public works offices and various other public facilities.
In March 2018, the 33-year-old Mohlala was arrested at Hlogotlou SAPS for rape and his bail application was rejected.
A few months down the line, in October in the same year, Mohlala escaped from lawful custody while being transported to Witbank Prison.
During his escape, Mohlala committed various crimes, including robbing security officers of their firearms and cell phones and stealing money and valuables from other victims.
In April 2023, he was re-arrested by the Nebo Jane Furse tracking team at a Jane Furse hiding place and charged with eight robberies.
Additionally, DNA evidence linked him to 2 additional rape cases that occurred while he was an unknown suspect.
The Polokwane High Court found Mohlala guilty on 23 counts and sentenced him to a total of 222 years' imprisonment.
'The court ordered that 10 years imprisonment on count 1 does not run concurrently with counts 2 to 25, with a minimum sentence of 15 years imprisonment on counts 2 to 25,' read the police statement.
The police arrested a 47-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man for allegedly abusing their two daughters, aged two and eight, in Bloubergstrand, Western Cape, on Tuesday, 10 June 2025.
According to Arrive Alive, the suspects are facing multiple charges which include child pornography, rape, sexual assault, and sexual grooming.
A multidisciplinary team comprising members of the National and Western Cape Serial and Electronic Crime Investigations (SECI) Units, officials from the Department of Social Development (DSD), supported by the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), located the suspects at a residence identified through joint investigative efforts.
The two victims were rescued and placed in a place of safety.

Mayibuye Mandela charges 'refugees', AfriForum with treason

Mayibuye Mandela, the great-grandson of Nelson Mandela's sister, has laid charges of treason against the group of Afrikaner 'refugees' who arrived in the US as 'persecuted' people. The outspoken politician also charged activist organisations AfriForum and Solidarity Movement for their comments about South Africa. On his X account, Mayibuye Mandela – who refers to himself as 'Nelson Mandela's great grandson' – revealed that he had officially taken action against the group of Afrikaner 'refugees'. Mayibuye posted official documents stating that he had laid a charge of treason against the group, as well as Afrikaner rights organisations, AfriForum, and Solidarity Movement. In the papers, Mayibuye accused the 'refugees' and the organisation of spreading 'fake news' and a 'false narrative' of a 'white genocide' in South Africa. The 30-year-old stated that the 'refugees' had violated numerous laws, including: Incitement to cause public harm or racial hatred over their 'propaganda'. Misinformation and Cyber Defamation for 'causing reputational harm to South Africa'. Immigration Act for 'knowingly submitting false claims of persecution'. Apart from being charged by Mayibuye Mandela, AfriForum is also facing a treason probe after four dockets of high treason were opened against it. The lobby group has been condemned for calling for the US to 'intervene' in domestic affairs. It has also been accused of spreading misinformation about the Expropriation Act. Afrikaner 'refugees' depart South Africa for the US. Image: X/ According to reports, the Haws are currently interviewing witnesses in their investigation. Hawks head, Godfrey Lebeya, said: 'These kinds of matters need to be approached carefully. We are dealing with a serious crime here.' AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel has repeatedly claimed that he was 'not concerned' over the probe. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 . Kirsten Kluyts murder: Bafana Mahungela to face trial despite attempts to have charges withdrawn

Murdered Joburg schoolteacher, Kirsten Kluyts. Image: Facebook The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that it will proceed with the prosecution of Bafana Mahungela, the 22-year-old student accused of the brutal murder of Sandton teacher Kirsten Kluyts, despite attempts by his defence to have the charges withdrawn. NPA Regional Spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has decided not to withdraw the charges against Mahungela, following a detailed review of defence submissions challenging the strength of the State's case. Mahungela is facing multiple charges including kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, murder, and attempted rape. He was arrested in November 2023 at a student residence in Parkmore after the body of Kluyts, a teacher at Delta Park High School, was found dumped on a jogging lane in George Lea Park in Sandton on October 29, 2023. Kluyts had been participating in a local athletic event on the day she was killed and was pregnant at the time of her death. According to the investigation, surveillance footage captured Mahungela wearing a black T-shirt and pants before the murder. He was later seen leaving the vicinity of the crime scene at 8:49 am wearing a blue T-shirt, identified by investigators as the same one worn by Kluyts earlier that morning. He was also seen holding a black item in his left hand. Mahungela has admitted to undressing Kluyts and leaving her naked in the bushes, claiming he only did so to eliminate fingerprints after attempting to 'help' her. Her clothes were later found dumped in a nearby drain. Video Player is loading. Next Stay Close ✕ Post-mortem results revealed that Kluyts died from blunt-force head trauma and strangulation. The State alleges it took approximately eight minutes to inflict the fatal injuries. The defence had filed representations arguing that the prosecution lacked sufficient evidence to link Mahungela to the crime. The State, represented by Advocates Siyabonga Futshana and Leisha Surendra, maintained that it is fully prepared to proceed. 'In response, Advocates Siyabonga Futshana and Leisha Surendra presented the State's position in court, confirming that the prosecution is ready to proceed to trial,' Mjonondwane said. The trial is expected to take place on October 13, 2025, in the Gauteng High Court. Mahungela has been refused bail and will remain in custody until his trial. IOL News
