No dogs, cats or concrete driveways. How Allan Myers rules over Dunkeld

The Great Dividing Range runs the length of the continent, 3500 kilometres from Cape York down through NSW and into the bountiful plains of Victoria's Western District. It comes to a magnificent conclusion with a couple of volcanic exclamations, Mount Sturgeon and Mount Abrupt, which tower over the pretty little town of Dunkeld.
A high-walled fort marks the point where the mountains succumb to the plains. The construction of this citadel's wall was a gargantuan undertaking. Two metres high, and made of local sandstone, it took a team of masons 28 years to complete, longer than it took to build the Taj Mahal. You could squeeze the MCG within the walls.

AFL grand final 2025: Rumours swirl that rock band The Foo Fighters could be playing at the MCG

It is rumoured that the 2025 AFL grand final entertainment could be American rock band The Foo Fighters. Triple M's Mark 'Roo' Ricciuto said he received the tip from someone in 'AFL circles' during the Rumour Mill segment on Wednesday morning. 'A little birdie let it slip to me in AFL circles in the last couple days, that the Foo Fighters might be the entertainment for the 2025 grand final,' Roo told his co-hosts Ditts and Loz. 'Now it's not a done deal, I haven't investigated, I haven't even looked at whether they're a chance of being here. 'This is not 100% but it's a bloody good chance.' However, Loz did some digging and discovered the band had plans to perform in Singapore a week after the grand final on September 27. The Foo Fighters also announced a 2025 world tour but have not released their Australia dates. 'The Foo Fighters are gonna be playing the Singapore Grand Prix a week after the AFL grand final, so they're going to be in the southern hemisphere and then they're going to be doing a world tour later on,' Loz said. She mentioned that Robbie Williams, who dazzled fans at the 2022 grand final, kicked off his tour shortly after his MCG performance, suggesting the rockers might take a similar approach. 'When Robbie Williams came and did the grand final he had a tour following that and was pushing tickets towards that, so, it's a way of getting people excited,' Loz added. Last year, American pop-princess Katy Perry delivered an electrifying performance for a roaring grand final crowd. She entered the turf on a metallic car for her 17-minute set which included a cameo from Australian icon Tina Arena.

Bombers star desperate to take on Blues at MCG

Essendon star Darcy Parish is itching to make his long-awaited comeback in the AFL crunch clash with Carlton but still needs the final tick of approval. Parish has endured a wretched run with injuries in recent seasons and is yet to play a senior game this year. The 27-year-old has been hampered by ongoing back and calf issues in a difficult start to 2025. But he has eased into a comeback in two VFL matches on limited minutes and feels ready to be thrust back into AFL action against the Blues at the MCG on Sunday night. "It's obviously been a frustrating start to the year for myself but I've played the last couple of weeks and managed to get through," Parish said. "I've been grateful and had real fun and enjoyment out there the last few weeks and now it's up to Scotty (coach Brad Scott). "Hopefully he picks me for this weekend's clash and I can't wait to get back out there with the boys. "There's no better place to play than the MCG with a full crowd there and I'm itching to get out there again." Parish has played just 46 of a possible 78 games since his career-best 2021 season, and the Bombers have taken a conservative approach with the gun midfielder's rehabilitation. "I've been knocking (on Scott's door) for the past couple of weeks and he's been itching to get me back out there," Parish said. "But the medical guys have had a real plan in place to manage my minutes and give me the best opportunity to perform and stay out there injury-free for the rest of the year. "We've stuck fat with that and I've been progressing really well and hopefully this week's the week to get back out there." Parish has been ever-present on a growing Essendon injury list this year, with the Bombers (6-4) facing significant obstacles in their bid to snap the club's long finals win drought. Sam Draper, Kyle Langford and Ben McKay are among the raft of key position players who have been sidelined. "We've been really unlucky with injuries - and key injuries as well - in the last few years and especially this year," Parish said. "We've had a lot of young guys step up and play their roles, which has been really exciting for the club. "It's the next-man-up mentality at the moment and we're all trying to do it together." A keen Liverpool supporter, Parish attended a 20-year anniversary celebration of the famous English club's 'Miracle Of Istanbul' UEFA Champions League victory thrown by Carlsberg in Melbourne on Tuesday night. BBL: Melbourne Stars make important signing ahead of the 2025-26 season

The 'proven wicket-taker' is back. Experienced seamer Mark Steketee has penned a one-season extension with the Melbourne Stars ahead of the 2025-26 season. Steketee has captured 104 Big Bash wickets at an average of 23 across his 78 appearances with the Stars and Brisbane Heat. Stars high performance manager, and ex-Australian quick, Clint McKay said Steketee was an important piece of the Stars' fast-bowling stocks. 'Full credit to Mark, he worked his way into the tournament and then capitalised on his opportunity in the attack,' McKay said. 'He is a proven wicket-taker in the BBL and a fierce competitor and hopefully he can take the momentum and belief from last season into this year. 'We're really pleased with our fast-bowling stocks with Mark complementing Peter Siddle, Tom Curran, Scott Boland and Liam Hatcher.' Steketee said the Stars set the benchmark for the upcoming season with their red-hot run to the finals last campaign. 'I've loved my last couple of years at the Stars and the MCG is an amazing place to play when you're on a roll like the team was last year,' Steketee said. 'Hopefully, the boys can keep that momentum going and get back to the finals again in BBL|15.'
