Change to Pixel Launcher spotted after latest Android 16 QPR1 Beta release
The other day Google released Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 and while it included various fixes and new features, the latest beta release for the September Pixel Feature Drop also included a small design change to the Pixel Launcher which we will get to in a second, Before we do, we should tell you that this new look for the Pixel Launcher fits in with Google's comments about the September Pixel Feature Drop (aka Quarterly Platform Release 1 for Android 16 ). Google previously said that the future Feature Drop will add "much of the new visual polish associated with Material Expressive." Now this might not be what Pixel users want to see from a QPR update. Speaking for myself, I always prefer cool features even if they are taken from newer Pixel models. Google has a habit of announcing a new feature for the latest Pixel model hoping that those with an older Pixel will upgrade and buy the latest phone. But I've learned over time that if you keep your wallet closed, the coveted Pixel feature will eventually end up backported on your older phone. I can think of a few features I really wanted, such as Pixel 8's Magic Editor (my Pixel 6 Pro launched with the Magic Eraser only)Pixel 7's Photo Unblur, which cleaned up older photos making them look new and sharp, and Pixel 7 's Clear Calling, which cleans up background noise on phone calls. All of these, and more, are now on my Pixel 6 Pro . Other features backported to the Pixel 6 series include the accessibility feature called Guided Frame which uses voice to help a Pixel user with limited vision frame a selfie.

Also rolled out to the Pixel 6 line is the Battery Health indicator which delivers information about how much estimated capacity your battery has remaining. One major feature that many Pixel 6 series were hoping for but will never receive is Face Unlock. However, back in 2022 there was some hope that the Sony IMX663 image sensor used on the Pixel 6 Pro could be used to create a depth map which could be employed on a Face Unlock feature. Ultimately, Pixel 6 users never received a facial recognition feature and are limited to using their in-display fingerprint scanner (which works wonderfully in Android 16 QPR1 Beta2).
The new feature that arrived for the the Pixel Launcher appears on the launcher's search bar at the top of the screen. The iconic "G" logo on the left of the bar is noticeably smaller especially when compared tot he two remaining icons in the field which includes the microphone icon you tap to access the assistant, and the Google Lens icon you press to open that feature.
As changes go, no this is not a big one but it does prove that Google is always looking to make what it thinks are improvements to its software no matter how limited the results are.

She recalls that she met him at a cafe and asks Siri to refresh her memory and tell her the name of the boy she met at a cafe a few months ago. Siri goes through apps like Mail, Messages, Calendar, Files, Notes, and Photos to find the young lad's name. However, Apple was forced to pull the ad when it announced a delay in the release of Siri's AI features. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported today that internally, Apple has set a target of spring 2026 for the release of Siri's AI features. More specifically, Apple is planning to include the AI-powered version of its Siri digital assistant with iOS 26.4 according to people familiar with the tech giant's plans. Part of the features coming to Siri include the ability to browse through the user's personal data to collect information as Apple originally showed in the now-pulled ad. Another example, one that Apple used at WWDC 2024, had an iPhone user ask Siri what time his mother's flight was going to arrive at the airport, and what time the dinner reservation was made for. Another feature will allow Siri to know exactly what is on a user's iPhone screen. Siri is expected to also gain a new system called App Intents that will allow Siri to control apps across Apple devices. Examples would be requests for specific actions to be taken such as "Create a new note," "Start a workout," "Order coffee," "Play a specific playlist," "Find a trail," and "Set a reminder." Apple iPhone users, especially those who have been critical of Siri as we have been at times, will have gone nearly two years from the time that the new features were announced in June 2024 at WWDC to the release, hopefully in April 2026, of these features. Siri was introduced with the iPhone 4s in 2011 and quickly went from smartphone marvel to also-ran as the assistant was topped by Google Assistant and Alexa. Apple is hoping that this AI makeover will take Siri to the top again.

Nothing Phone (3) is officially coming to the US, here is where you can get one
Nothing is bringing its upcoming Phone (3) to the United States, something that hasn't happened in a long time. Out of eight smartphones Nothing released, just one made it to the US through official channels, the Phone (2). According to TechCrunch, Phone (3) will be the second Nothing handset to make its debut in the United States. The publication says the device will be available in the US via Nothing's website and Amazon. Previously, some of Nothing's phones were only available in the US through the UK-based company's beta program. Customers had to enroll in the program and hope they'll be given the option to purchase the device. Unfortunately, Nothing did not offer support for these devices sold in the US, although customers had the option to return the phone within 14 days. Customers in the United States will be happy to know that Nothing Phone (3) will support AT&T and T-Mobile networks. This means no out of the box support for Verizon, sadly. In an interview with TechCrunch , Nothing's CEO Carl Pei said that while he understands that the US market is dominated by two brands, Apple and Samsung, there's definitely room for a third player that makes things very differently. – Nothing CEO, Carl Pei , June 2025. The price for the US market hasn't been revealed yet, but in order to be competitive, Nothing must undercut the other two major players in the market or exclusively rely on its fans to buy its new product. One of the biggest issues for Nothing is that its new flagship will not be sold by any of the major US carriers. On the other hand, the UK company doesn't expect the same volume of sales as Apple or Samsung, so Amazon might be exactly the partner it needs at the moment.

Nothing Phone (3) and Nothing Headphone (1) will be available in the US and Canada
On July 1, Nothing is announcing the Phone (3), its first ever proper flagship smartphone, and the Headphone (1), its first ever pair of over-ear headphones, co-engineered with legendary British audio brand KEF. Today Nothing has revealed that both of these products will be available officially in the US and Canada, and generally available - not through developer beta programs like some previous Nothing phones. This obviously marks a big step for the young brand. The devices will be offered in the US directly through Nothing's website as well as Amazon, and in Canada through Best Buy. The Phone (3) will support AT&T and T-Mobile in the US.
