Jamie Theakston has candidly revealed his struggle with laryngeal cancer in a heartfelt conversation with Davina McCall. The broadcaster from Heart Radio, at 54, was diagnosed with an aggressive variety of the disease last September, having initially thought his persisting sore throat was nothing serious.
Miraculously, Jamie has successfully beaten cancer, following multiple operations to extract a malignant growth from his vocal cords. Yet, during a recent episode of the Begin Again podcast, he reflected on how stark and unexpected the diagnosis was amidst plans for a family vacation.

Searching for words, he described the moment: "So, when I got my cancer diagnosis, it came as such a huge shock to me because it was so surprising, like there was no... it just came as such a broadside because... so, I'd had this sore throat for a while, and we were about to go on holiday. "We're going to, we're off to Japan. In fact, I think we were meant to be flying to Japan that day and my wife said, 'You should go and see someone before we go, just to get some antibiotic to clear up your throat'."
In a turn of events, Jamie sought advice from a specialist who, despite being 'lovely', possessed what Jamie felt was the 'worst bedside manner of any doctor' he had encountered. Upon examining Jamie's throat, the doctor instantly suggested cancer as the likely cause, propelling Jamie into a series of tests and scans.
A few hours after the examinations, the radio DJ went ahead with his holiday plans while waiting for the results. Despite having a splendid time, he chose not to divulge his situation to his family, bearing the burden in silence for a fortnight. "I didn't tell anyone," he confided."...At that stage, I thought, well, it might not be cancer. So, there's no point really in saying."

The truth eventually came to light when Jamie received his biopsy results, confirming the presence of early-stage cancer. He returned home to share the grave news with his wife, Sophie Siegle, who was left in deep distress.
With emotion clear in his voice, Jamie recounted: "My mum had died of cancer about a year before. And so my youngest son, he was with me when I was told my mum had died from cancer, knew that you could die. And so, I told him that it was going to be fine and that he had nothing to worry about, and that was the hardest part."
Post-diagnosis, Jamie had surgery at the Princess Grace Hospital in Central London which was initially deemed successful, but doubts lingered over whether all the cancer had been excised.

Now 54, the DJ faced further tribulations with a second operation complicated by scar tissue impacting his vocal cords. A third procedure was contemplated, though doctors warned they were verging on 'dangerously close' to a point where Jamie might lose his ability to speak permanently.
He remarked: "And so, that had now gone from being, I've got cancer that I should be able to live with to a situation where they've gone, well, 'We're now dangerously close to you not being able to talk,' which is new. I was like, wow, I hadn't really factored that into the whole equation."
Thankfully, Jamie's voice remains unharmed, and he celebrated his return to Heart Radio Breakfast, where he teams up with Amanda Holden, this January.

Upon his return, he informed his audience: "Today is the four-month anniversary of my cancer diagnosis. So it's been four months, and I'm fed up with hospitals and operations, and it's just wonderful to be back, and I've got some news for you. Because I can tell you that as of today, I'm cancer free."

Amanda Holden in shock as she appears completely naked on breakfast show cameras

Amanda Holden questioned if she had 'forgotten her clothes' when she realised she looked completely naked on the breakfast show cameras on Thursday. The Heart Breakfast presenter, 54, joined her co-star Jamie Theakston for their usual weekday spot and had been wearing a peach strapless dress which was not visible in the shot. Welcoming their listeners, Amanda said: 'Good morning Mr Theakston! It is six-thirty, and I've just caught myself on the camera and don't you think I look naked this morning? Sat behind here.' Jamie replied: 'Do you know what? You are wearing clothes, aren't you?' Amanda clarified: 'I just looked and went 'what? Have I forgot to put my clothes on?'' 'It does look like that,' Jamie laughed. Welcoming their listeners, Amanda said: 'Good morning Mr Theakston! It is six-thirty, and I've just caught myself on the camera and don't you think I look naked this morning? Sat behind here' However, it would come as no surprise if Amanda was naked as the star is no stranger to flashing the flesh in the studios. In April 2024, she stripped naked during the Heart Breakfast Show. The confident star put every inch of herself on display as she removed her clothes for a life drawing session, that saw artists, as well as her radio co-hosts Jamie and Ashley Roberts have a go at drawing her. As Amanda dropped trousers on camera, Jamie explained: 'Slightly distracting... Amanda's in the corner of the studio without any clothes on - which is a first not for her of course - but the rest of us.' Ashley interjected: 'She looks amazing!' As Amanda was presented with the images of herself nude, she seemed delighted with the outcomes. Yet Jamie was quick to put an end to the bizarre segment as he called out 'can you put a top on because it's slightly distracting?!' The confident star put every inch of herself on display as she removed her clothes for a life drawing session, that saw artists, as well as her radio co-hosts Jamie and Ashley Roberts have a go at drawing her Amanda's appearance on her Heart Radio show comes after Britain's Got Talent sparked more Ofcom complaints after she and Alesha Dixon opted for 'revealing' dresses to close out the series. Viewers watched the remaining acts battle it out for the top spot and saw magician Harry Moulding win a chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance and £250,000 last Saturday night (31 May 2025). However, what got people talking were judges Amanda and 46-year-old Alesha's outfits. According to The Mirror, telly regulator Ofcom received 72 complaints over their ensembles. The publication was told that they were deemed 'too revealing for a family show'. Amanda looked incredible as she donned a white floor-length gown with a plunging neckline. The star scraped her hair back in an elegant, slick bun and opted for a smoky eye for the final show. Meanwhile, Alesha rocked a sheer glittery shirt dress with a black bra and matching underwear. It comes after Amanda defiantly hit back at Ofcom complaints over her daring outfits. The judge often steals the limelight on the long-running ITV show with her very glamorous outfits. She is known for sporting some bold ensembles while taking to the judging panel alongside Simon Cowell, Alesha, and Bruno Tonioli. Her looks have raised eyebrows and have sparked more than 1,000 Ofcom complaints over the years, but Amanda has now firmly brushed off the criticism. Amanda said she works closely with her stylist on creating each look and insisted she loves every single outfit she has worn on the show since its launch in 2007. She told Closer magazine: 'What you see on TV, I really love. 'I'm always asked about the Ofcom complaints, but every outfit on the show is checked before I leave my dressing room, so I'm never worried. 'I think people should have fun with fashion!' It is not the first time Amanda has defended her fashion choices in the talent competition after coming under fire from some viewers. In 2022, she said: 'Fashion is about taking risks. I encourage everyone to have a little fun and be a little daring. I'd be bored playing it safe.'

Amanda Holden appears NAKED on radio just days after Ofcom complaints over BGT dress

AMANDA Holden has stunned radio fans after appearing to turn up to work completely naked. The star looked totally nude on the live stream of Heart FM's Breakfast Show - and it even left her co-host Jamie Theakston doing a double take. 5 Amanda 's wardrobe faux pas came just 24 hours after it was revealed both hers and Alesha Dixon 's risqué dresses from the Britain's Got Talent Live Final had sparked Ofcom complaints. Sitting in her DJ hot seat on Thursday morning, Amanda looked across at a monitor for the live stream and admitted: "Good morning, Mr Theakston. "It is 6.30am and I've just caught myself on the camera and don't you think I look naked this morning? Sat behind here?" Stuttering, Jamie replied: "Do you know what... You are wearing clothes, aren't you?" Laughing, Amanda told her co-host: "I just looked and went, 'What? Have I forgotten to put my clothes on?'" With her blonde hair loose around her shoulders, it did look as though Amanda, 54, was in the buff. The only thing visible was a chunky string of pearls around her neck featuring a gold heart. But Amanda was in fact wearing clothes. The glam mum-of-two was pictured outside Global's studios in London after the show had finished in a pale pink strapless dress made of suede. Her figure-hugging frock fell at the knee and Amanda had teamed it with nude court shoes and a matching handbag. Britain's Got Talent fans hit out at judge during live final as they rage 'what is he doing-' She also popped on a pair of sunglasses, despite the wet weather in the capital. The Sun revealed on Wednesday how ITV had been hit with a flurry of complaints following the BGT final. Television watchdog Ofcom received 96 complaints in total about the live finale - with 72 relating to Amanda and Alesha's skin-baring dresses. Amanda chose to wear a long, white gown with dramatic cowl neck for the telly extravaganza - and had just a very skimpy bra underneath. Alesha, meanwhile, wore a sheer floor-length dress that gave fans of the show a good look at her underwear. At the time, one viewer had complained on X: "Love the show, but what a shame that Amanda and Alesha have to dress like they are going to some special nightclub." Another fumed: "Catching up on #BGT and what is Amanda wearing? Not really appropriate for a family show." A third compared Amanda's dress to a "tea towel". The remaining complaints were about language used by Bruno Tonioli and Simon Cowell, the winner of the competition Harry Moulding, and Joseph Charm's act. Amanda is no stranger to baring the flesh and deliberately chooses outfits that show off her incredible figure. Speaking to The Sun at the BGT premiere, she cackled: "I constantly scroll through Instagram when I'm on car journeys and bombard my stylist with loads of ideas. "It's thigh splits and cleavage. "I have a whole 't*t committee' [in the production team] that watches everything [to prevent 'accidents']." 5

'Neighbour from hell' dad reported to council for hosting casino party for son's birthday

'Neighbour from hell' dad reported to council for hosting casino party for son's birthday - despite 7pm finish Jamie Obrien claims a 'Karen' complained about his 'loud but reasonable' music Cain Obrien and friends celebrating his birthday (Image: Kennedy News and Media ) A dad was reported to the council as a 'neighbour from hell' for hosting a 'casino night' for his teen son's birthday - despite it being finished by 7pm. Jamie Obrien set up a roulette wheel, fake money and a speaker system so Cain Obrien could celebrate his birthday with 11 friends at their home on April 26, 2025. The 58-year-old says he played music from a speaker outside the family's back door from 4.30-6pm at a 'loud but reasonable' volume. But a fortnight ago (May 13), an environmental health worker from Fareham Borough Council, Hampshire, called to explain that a neighbour had complained about the noise. ‌ Jamie took to his Facebook community group later that morning to brand the mystery complainant a 'Karen' before calling for them to 'grow some balls' and 'get a life'. The full-time carer says there are more than 40 flats or semi-detached homes in his close and the neighbouring street, which includes many 'elderly' residents. He insists the 'whirlwind little party' was finished by 7pm and that it was 'pathetic' to call the council instead of explaining their annoyance in person. ‌ However, Facebook users had split opinions, with some calling the neighbour 'sour' and 'pathetic' and others calling Jamie a 'neighbour from hell' who should stop believing he's 'always right'. The dad-of-three is sharing the story to discourage people from sending what he deems 'pathetic' noise complaints as families enjoy the summer sun. Jamie Obrien set up a roulette wheel, fake money and a speaker system so son Cain could celebrate his birthday (Image: Kennedy News and Media ) Jamie, from Fareham, Hampshire, said: "It was quite a whirlwind little party. It was casino-themed and I was the head of the roulette wheel with fake money and card games. I brought the speaker system down from Cain's bedroom, put it in the utility room that backs onto the back garden, and put one of the speakers just outside the back door. Article continues below "I put the tunes on from 4.30pm and it was loud but it wasn't full blast - it could have gone a lot louder. I thought it was loud but reasonable. I'm an old-school raver from back in the day. I put one of my rave CDs but within 20 minutes they'd switched to teenager music, which is all grime and drum and bass. "Within an hour the volume of that went right down because they were congregating in groups and having chats more than anything. By 6pm the music had been turned off. We've lived here for five years now and it's the first time the stereo has been an issue. We had a disco dome in the garden with music pumping from it last year. "If I had a problem with something the only way to address it is head-on and be civil. It would have looked pathetic but it's even more pathetic that he's had to bring it up (with the council). It's annoying but deep down it makes me laugh because I see it as a form of jealousy. God forbid anyone enjoy themselves and have a good time." ‌ Jamie, lives with wife Tammy Obrien, 39, and their three children Cain, Mia, 20, and Kurt, 11. He claims the council worker sided with him on the call and insists people should explain what the issue is if they make a complaint. Jamie said: "I took the call from environmental health and they said the noise complaint had been raised over the volume of our music. I explained we had the party from 4-7 and it was probably on for an hour tops and she told me 'that's absolutely fine. Even I have a party once in a while. Everyone's entitled to have a party'. "I asked her to tell whoever it is to grow a pair and knock on my door the next time, but she said she can't put it like that. She said she'd make them aware it was a birthday party and there's no foundation for the complaint. ‌ "If you've got a baby that's trying to sleep or you've worked a night shift, be logical, explain yourself and then we can all get on. I'd apologise if I offended anybody because my music was that bad or that loud but it genuinely wasn't and that's why they haven't knocked on the door. It's just a problem neighbour. "Our house is on an elderly residential plot. There's 44 flats and our house in the close but we've got a really good rapport with all the elderly residents." Jamie says he has not been put off hosting a party at the house in future and would hire a venue if he planned it to run late into the night. His post said: "On Saturday April 26, I had a birthday party for my son and he had a small group of friends attend our home, ‌ "Today I received a phone call from environmental health after a noise complaint was made about the music! Firstly, the party was from 4-7pm and as for the music it was probably fairly loud for about an hour tops! "I would just like to reach out to Karen and advise them to grow a pair and come knock my door in future or just to basically get a life of their own instead of hiding behind phones and computers! This was the first noise complaint in five years of living here as we never really have parties." One commented: "I hope your son had the best party ever. Too many sour people these days!" ‌ A second said: "Some people need to get a life. What a pathetic thing to do. Music loud at 7pm wow." A third said: "What sound in the whole world could possibly be more wonderful than children enjoying themselves to music? Shame on the miserable soul who couldn't appreciate that sound." However one said: "Quite simple. Turn it down and stop being the 'I'm always right' neighbour from hell." Article continues below Another said: "Isn't it ironic that you are complaining about Karen not knocking on the door and hiding behind phones and computers and then instead of knocking on their door you put up this post." Jamie replied: "Haha you're funny but not in a funny way. 'Neighbour from hell' please, maybe 20 years ago I would have been." Fareham Borough Council said environmental health officers assess noise by taking into account a range of factors such as frequency, time of day/night, background noise levels and volume so it is unlikely they would take any action for one-off parties.
