Meet the poodle that's part of a lifeguard pack in Spain

BBC News15 hours ago

Poodles are some of the most pampered pooches and certainly don't look out of place at dog shows like Crufts. But now you might see one on a beach, as he's just joined a dog rescue squad in Spain.Nilo the poodle has joined four labradors in the team, paw-trolling Las Lindes beach near Malaga.Miguel Sanchez-Merenciano, who is Nilo's handler, says he enters the water first to reach swimmers who have got into trouble, before Nilo and the others help them back to safety.
Nilo certainly looks the part, with a life vest strapped to his chest and suncream on his nose. However, you're unlikely to find many other Poodles working on the beaches in the country as other breeds tend to be used there - like Labradors and Newfoundlands.Poodles are thought to have originated in Germany and were historically used for water rescue in northern Europe, where their fur would protect them from the cold.According to Miguel that their name comes the German verb "puddeln" which means 'to splash'.
Poodles aren't just known for their fluffy fur, the American Kennel Club says they are very intelligent and are great learners.Miguel says Nilo at first was scared of loud noises and crowds so his training had to be done a step at a time. But he says it wasn't long until he was out there swimming with "perfect strokes" and "using his tail perfectly like a rudder to run and to move".One thing's for sure, if someone got rescued by this super pooch, they'd certainly have a tail to tell!

Instead he broke the promise and her controlling behaviour continued. The rest is history." Nicoline went on to thank the people who came to her aid and added: "I have tried to understand why. Violence has no excuse - no matter how much love preceded it." James Argent was handed a six month suspended sentence and a two-year restraining order banning him from contacting Nicoline. 5

Furious customers blast ‘tragic' new Balenciaga heeled sneakers with STAGGERING price

A BACKLASH is afoot after Balenciaga unveiled high-heel trainers for £820. A model posed in ski goggles and the odd footwear with 8.5cm stiletto for the fashion house's Autumn 2025 collection. But critics raced to social media to blast the 'Monday Heel Shoe'. Julia Rawan wrote: 'Tragic.' Brandi McDonald added: 'And this is an international brand.' The Spanish firm was mocked in 2023 for flogging a £695 skirt that looked like a towel. And in 2022, it was slammed for having a teddy bear wearing fetish gear next to a child in a promo shoot. Balenciaga hit the headlines in recent years after they released platform sandals in a Crocs style. A few months later, the bizarre footwear also became available in a wedge style. It seemed some Crocs lovers couldn't wait to get their hands on a pair, with one Twitter user revealing she'd be wearing them for a night out.

Conor McGregor brutally lashes out at partygoer while drinking until 6am at exclusive Ibiza club after partying with Katie Price and Tottenham star at Wayne Lineker's beach club

Conor McGregor brutally floored a partygoer with two punches at the infamous Pacha nightclub in Ibiza. The disgraced fighter was seen hitting the reveller on the Spanish party island as he boozed until the early hours on Tuesday morning. The 36-year-old was seen in conversation with a man before putting his arm around his shoulders and lashing out as music continues to loudly blare. He speaks to the man for a few seconds before hitting him with his left hand while holding a glass of alcohol in his right. McGregor, a former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion, then lands another blow just seconds later to leave the reveller on the floor. The Irishman has not fought since 2021 and is protected from his victim by his entourage after flooring him. One party-goer told The Sun: 'Clearly something's been said to annoy him and he's reacted very badly. 'The guy seemed to fall to the floor, and his mates came to pick him up and get him away. 'There [didn't appear to be any] consequences for Conor, but the guy he punched was taken away and I didn't see him again.' The violent scrap came just hours after McGregor was seen partying with Katie Price at Wayne Lineker's O Beach. McGregor sported red shorts, a cap and sun glasses while puffing on a cigar and playing up to the crowds at a wild day time party. Price shared a picture of the pair on her Instagram page with the caption: 'You legend,' after McGregor tagged her in his own story and said: 'Forever'. Tottenham defender Kevin Danso also posted a picture with the former fighter on his Instagram. McGregor has tried to become involved in politics and even said he'd run for Irish president McGregor's outburst is not the first time he has lost his temper whilst partying at the Pacha resort. Three years ago he stamped on a fan's hat after a teenager threw it towards him and asked for him to sign it. He gave a sarcastic thumbs up before angrily aiming insults at the fan.
