Moldova issues wanted notice for missing pro-Russian lawmaker
CHISINAU, March 22 (Reuters) - Moldovan authorities have issued an international wanted notice for a missing pro-Russian member of parliament, who disappeared the day he was handed a 12-year jail sentence on corruption charges.
A second pro-Russian lawmaker, due to be sentenced next week, has also disappeared, officials said.

Both are associates of Ilan Shor, a fugitive business magnate also jailed for his part in a mass fraud scheme who now heads a political party from exile in Moscow. Moldova's pro-European government accuses him of trying to destabilise the ex-Soviet state.
The warrant for lawmaker Alexandr Nesterovschi was issued late on Friday and Interior Minister Daniela Misail-Nichitin said attempts to locate him had failed. Authorities in neighbouring Ukraine and Romania had found no trace of him.
"The warrant for Mr Nesterovschi was issued in record time," Misail-Nichitin told TVR Moldova television.
"Various operations are proceeding, though I cannot speak of them. Absolutely all hypotheses are being analysed. The police are examining every single version to find Nesterovschi."
She said police had considered whether Nesterovschi, who was granted Russian citizenship as his sentence was being announced, was hiding in the Russian embassy, but that had proved to be untrue.
Nesterovschi was accused of accepting money from a criminal group to finance the activities of Shor's "Victory" bloc. Lawmaker Irina Lozovan, awaiting sentencing on similar charges, has also disappeared.
Shor was sentenced to 15 years in prison two years ago in connection with the disappearance of $1 billion from the banking system in Moldova's "theft of the century" in 2014-15. He fled initially to Israel then to Moscow, now has Russian citizenship and has evaded all attempts to extradite him.
Moldovan courts have banned political parties linked to Shor, who has organised noisy anti-government protests in the capital.
Moldova's pro-European president, Maia Sandu, has spearheaded a drive for Moldova, one of Europe's poorest countries, to secure European Union membership by 2030. She denounces Russia's invasion of Ukraine and accuses the Kremlin of trying to unseat her.

It comes as Mr Starmer looks set to hail Britain's "proud status" as a free trading nation as he discusses boosting trade and security ties with Canada. Two-year talks over a possible UK-Canada trade deal were suspended by ex-Tory PM Rishi Sunak's government last year amid a row over beef and cheese imports. On Sunday, the PM will seek further economic ties between the two "like-minded countries". Vladimir Putin called Donald Trump to wish him a very 'happy birthday' while fears grow an all-out war is set to erupt in the Middle East. The US President, who turns 79 today, said the Russian dictator called him to wish him many happy returns, and to also offer his advice on escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. At least 78 people have been killed in Iran and another three in Israel as both countries launch ballistic missiles and drones at each other. Trump has been congratulating Israel for the 'excellent' attacks, with fears the US and other Western powers will be dragged into the conflict. Celebrating his 79th birthday, Trump organised a military parade which he said is really to celebrate the US army's 250th birthday. War footage captured the second the £15 million attack jet crashed after flying in a pair over Ukraine's Donetsk region. The pilot miraculously cheated death by ejecting before his aircraft fell to the ground. His doomed warplane is seen banking sharply before falling out of the sky and crash diving into a field. At first it appeared the Su-25 had been shot down – possibly by 'friendly fire', an unguided missile, from its partner plane, a claim made by the Ukrainian media. The footage shows heat trap flares and possible missiles from the Su-25s. Ukraine's Military media outlet ruled out both friendly fire and an exploding missile on the distressed aircraft. Yet experts on both sides now believe the aircraft's downing near Soledar could be related to Vladimir Putin's use of ageing war planes, with some Russian jets 40 years old or more. While flames and white smoke are seen rising from the aircraft, there is no giant explosion, which would be expected if there was a direct missile hit. The right wing is seen falling from the stricken aircraft – and the pilot's parachute is visible after ejecting. The pilot was reportedly rescued by Russian ground forces while under fire from Ukrainian drones. He was then evacuated from the crash site by a Mi-8 helicopter. 'The pilot is in the hospital with a broken arm,' reported Russian Telegram channel Fighterbomber. 'A commission will investigate what went wrong and determine who is to blame.' The same source said that 'destruction of the wing' was the cause. Ukraine has neither officially claimed to have shot down the plane, nor taunted Russia over another friendly fire incident. The visible 'missiles' may be unignited heat trap flares designed to distract heat-seeking missiles away from the aircraft's engines, according to some sources. 'The third possible reason is a defect in the aircraft's power structure that arose due to prolonged intensive use of the aircraft in combat operations or a manufacturing defect,' said the channel. 'This hypothesis is supported by the fact that the wing broke off at the moment of the turn, when it is subjected to the greatest loads. The theory was backed by Ukrainian war analyst Yury Butusov, who said: 'At first it seems that it was shot down by its own pilot, the pilot of another aircraft.
