Pachuca beats America on aggregate to capture its first Liga MX Femenil title
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Pachuca won its first Liga MX Femenil Apertura championship 3-2 on aggregate over America despite a 2-0 loss in the return leg on Monday.
Irene Guerrero, a midfielder who plays for Spain's national team, and striker Scarlett Camberos scored goals for America but it wasn't quite enough for the Aguilas to overcome a 3-0 deficit from the first leg of the final series.
Pachuca had lost in its three previous appearances in finals series, in the Apertura 17 and the Clausura 2022 and '23 tournaments.
'It was fundamental to have won at home. We did not come here to defend the lead, but America played great and pushed us,' said Pachuca's goalkeeper Esthefanny Barreras, who was voted the Player of the Match. 'It's a nice and historic moment to win the first title for us.'
The women's professional league in Mexico played its first season in 2017 a nd it has kept growing in popularity.
America was trying to capture its third title. The Mexico City based team has lost four of the last six finals series.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Jake Fraley, had three hits, including a home run in the fourth inning, Wade Miley got his first win since 2023 and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Cleveland Guardians 7-4 Monday night in Terry Francona's return to Progressive Field. TJ Friedl also went deep for the Reds, who have won four straight and are over .500 for the first time since May 19. Bo Naylor had a solo shot for Cleveland. The Guardians have dropped four of five overall and have lost all four of their meetings with the Reds this season. Francona managed Cleveland for 11 seasons (2013-23) before being hired by the Reds last October. Miley (1-0) got the win in his second game and first start since signing a one-year deal with the Reds on June 4. He went five innings and allowed three runs and five hits. PIRATES 10, MARLINS 3 PITTSBURGH (AP) — Bryan Reynolds hit a bases-loaded triple to cap a four-run third inning and Pittsburgh beat the skidding Miami for their season-high fourth straight win. Reynolds put the Pirates ahead 4-1 with a line drive to the gap in right-center field off Eury Perez (0-1), who was making his first major league start since Sept. 20, 2023, after recovering from Tommy John surgery. Reynolds' hit came after Andrew McCutchen had an RBI infield single. All nine Pirates had hits, and McCutchen and Adam Frazier paced a 15-hit attack with three apiece. Luke Mistone hits go-ahead homer in the 8th to help Murray State advance to the program's first CWS
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Luke Mistone hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning, Graham Kelham was solid in another long relief appearance, and Murray State beat Duke 5-4 on Monday night in a winner-take-all championship game at the Durham Super Regional to advance to the program's first College World Series. Murray State (44-15) became the fourth No. 4 seed to advance to Omaha, Nebraska. Duke (40-20) was seeking its first appearance in the CWS since 1961. Jonathan Hogart hit his second home run of the game in the seventh inning — his 21st of the season — into the pine trees over the left-field wall to tie it at 3. Murray State retook the lead in the eighth on Mistone's leadoff shot — just his fourth homer of the year. Then Dan Tauken's triple scored Will Vierling from first for a 5-3 lead after the ball caromed off the wall toward center field. Later in the eighth, the Racers had the bases loaded with no outs after back-to-back walks but James Tallon struck out two and got a groundout to end the threat.
