I think Palace will beat City – and this is how
By Alan Pardew
If I was in the dressing room I would really emphasise the fact that Crystal Palace are in great shape, offensively and defensively, and Manchester City still look vulnerable.
It gives head coach Oliver Glasner the opportunity to be stronger than I could have been in 2016, when I managed Palace in the final against Manchester United, losing 2-1 after extra time.
Ultimately when you are talking to players, you can't pull the wool over their eyes. In 2016 I couldn't honestly say 'we're in better form than Man United, we're better individually, this is our day', because that wasn't going to wash.
But I think Glasner can go down that route. He is in a great position to talk the game up and that spirit where Palace are the underdogs, having to jump up a couple of levels, is not as extreme as it was in 1990 and 2016 in their previous two finals. This is slightly more on a level.

Oliver Glasner 'walks the field'
They used to talk of the Old Wembley pitch as uniquely sapping on the legs and being of gargantuan size when it was no bigger than Maine Road's. It was the occasion rather than the dimensions that took its toll.

ITV have drafted in Joleon Lescott for the City angle
Roy Keane: 'They've show they can win well here [in the semi-final] but if Palace are to win today their goalkeeper will have to be man of the match. I would never bet against City.'
Ian Wright: 'I want Palace to stay in this game. The longer they stay in it, the better their chance.'

BBC or ITV?
Here in the UK the choice is between Messrs Lineker, Shearer and Mowbray with presumably Micah Richards for his City affiliation and AN Other for Palace and the third channel's Pougatch, Matterface, Dixon, McCoist, Wright and Keane.

Farewell to Kevin De Bruyne
This will be his 10th and final major final as a City player. He's been a joy to watch, an adornment to the league, a player of improbable passes without equal:

‘They looked bored' – Roy Keane slams England's ‘poor attitude' as Thomas Tuchel admits ‘I didn't like' Andorra effort
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ROY KEANE blasted England's "poor" attitude in their limp 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Andorra. The Republic of Ireland legend accused the Three Lions of "looking bored" in Barcelona on Saturday. 3 Roy Keane laid into England's 'poor' attitude in their limp 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Andorra 3 Thomas Tuchel was also left concerned by England's efforts England made it three wins out of three for Thomas Tuchel, who hasn't conceded a goal yet, but their performance left a lot to be desired. After a dreary first half, which saw England booed off, Harry Kane found a breakthrough by tapping in Noni Madueke's cross. That ended up as the only goal in the entire 93 minutes as Tuchel's players were accused of playing "walking football" by Keane's ITV co-panellist Karen Carney against the minnows. Keane, 53, was also critical of Kane's post-match assessment which included the captain saying, "We take the points and move on." "You should be setting your standards higher than that. You should be saying they should have scored three or four more. "We defend the players, say it's the end of the season and talk about the hot conditions, and Kane looked shattered. "I worry when I see players getting bored. I felt some of the players got bored in the last half an hour and I don't like to see that. CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS "It's when the goal went in, it was job done. It's Andorra - go and get some more goals! Tuchel has since seemingly agreed, saying that England "played with fire". Andorra v England match played in near empty stadium The German boss said: "I didn't like the attitude how we ended the game, not the whole game, it's a big difference. "I liked the attitude in the first 25 minutes, but I didn't like the last half an hour. We lacked the seriousness and urgency needed in a World Cup qualifier. "We played with fire and I didn't like the attitude at the end. I didn't like the body language, and I don't think it's what the occasion needed." Tuchel also told Three Lions fans their vile chants about Prime Minister Keir Starmer were "not acceptable." Some of the travelling supporters called Starmer a "c**t", "w**ker" and "nonce", as well as singing "no surrender" during the national anthem in a reference to the IRA. The RCDE stadium, home of Spanish side Espanyol, looked noticeably empty during the match. Sparse pockets of fans spread across the stands in Barcelona with just shy of 7,000 tickets sold to England fans for the match inside the 40,000-seat stadium.

Furious Thomas Tuchel blasts his players' 'attitude and body language' in scathing verdict of England's dismal 1-0 win over Andorra... before sending clear message to booing fans
Thomas Tuchel hammered his England stars for 'playing with fire' in Saturday night's lifeless World Cup qualifying win over Andorra, saying they were fortunate they did not get burned in Barcelona. Harry Kane scored the second-half winner, though the Three Lions were booed at half-time and then again at full-time. England supporters also took aim at Keir Starmer, chanting that the prime minister was a 'c***' and a 'w*****' in between expressing their frustration with the football on show. While Tuchel said he did not hear those songs towards Starmer, he admitted he could not blame the fans for jeering the performance, likening it to the favourites in a cup competition arrogantly acting as if they had no reason to worry. 'I think in the end, we played with fire, honestly,' Tuchel said. 'I felt it almost like in a cup game where the favourite does not smell the danger. I didn't feel a team that was aware it was only 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier. Step by step the energy dropped when we needed exactly the opposite. 'But we couldn't deliver and so we got away with a win. I think we still deserved the win and we've got three wins and three clean sheets. We will not stop encouraging them and make clear after we have a proper look at the match what we want from them. 'I didn't like the attitude how we ended the game. I liked the attitude how we started, the first 25 minutes, but I didn't like the last 25. I think we lacked the seriousness and the urgency that is needed in a World Cup qualifier. I think we played with fire. I didn't like the attitude in the end. I didn't like the body language. It was not what the occasion needed.' England will face Senegal in a friendly at Nottingham Forest's City Ground on Tuesday next, and Tuchel added: 'The booing is OK. First of all, the support was amazing, unbelievable, it created a fantastic atmosphere for a match like this. When I came out, straightaway I was excited. 'They were underwhelmed and not happy with our performance, especially with how we ended the first half. I don't think we can blame them for that. We cannot even blame them for how we ended the match.' On the singing against Starmer, he added: 'I did not hear anything about abusive songs or chants. If it happened, it's of course not acceptable, but I did not hear it.' England captain Harry Kane added: 'It's not one that many will remember and we had good spells but we take the three points and move on. Noni (Madueke) was a constant threat and we need more of that. We have amazing players and we need players who are going to take on players and keep doing it. He played really well. We need to be better, for sure.'

Hull KR end 40 years of agony to stun Warrington in breathtaking fashion
Warrington Wolves 6 Hull Kingston Rovers 8 On the east side of Hull, they will talk about the day that Hull KR finally won a major trophy again to end 40 years of heartache, for decades to come. The hope now for the Robins will be that this victory, secured by Tom Davies' dramatic 77th-minute try which reigning Man of Steel Mikey Lewis calmly converted, can kickstart of a new era of success. Not since 1985 had Rovers lifted a major trophy and you had to go back to 1980 for their only previous Challenge Cup success during the club's halcyon days. Now the good times are back after Willie Peters' side conjured the late score to secure rugby league's oldest and most famous trophy. At the final hooter, head coach Peters and his rain-soaked players leapt in the air like wild men as the magnitude of their achievement became clear. 'There was a lot of pressure on the group, but we had spoken about it being our time,' said Peters, whose players will parade the Challenge Cup in an open-top bus parade in Hull on Sunday. 'There are a lot of people who have contributed to this today. Our chairman, Neil Hudgell, has put so much money and time into the club and we wanted to do it for him. But in terms of the playing group, we wanted to do it for each other.' WHAT A MOMENT! ❤️🏆 #UpTheRobins 🔴⚪️ — Hull KR (@hullkrofficial) June 7, 2025 Hull KR had lost their last four Challenge Cup final appearances, including the 2023 final to Leigh in Peters' first season as head coach, but they are losers no more. An upwardly mobile club with a vibrant, ambitious ownership, Rovers appear well placed to kick on now and push for a maiden Super League title. You had to sympathise with Warrington coach Sam Burgess, whose injury-hit side fought gallantly and looked set for an against-the-odds victory until Davies struck late on. Burgess, whose full-back Matt Dufty was forced off late on with a broken eye socket, said: 'I don't think we deserved to lose. We controlled the game for large parts and I'm just upset for the players. But suffering, pain and loss are really crucial to the development and growth of the group.' In drizzly conditions, Warrington's wily playmaker Marc Sneyd delivered an imperious display as his educated left boot guided them around the park quite superbly. Sneyd won the Lance Todd Trophy as man of the match for the third time in his career, having claimed it when helping Hull FC to wins in the 2016 and 2017 Challenge Cup final. With chances scarce throughout, Hull KR led with a penalty from Lewis but Warrington scored the game's first try on the stroke of half-time when Sneyd's grubber kick bounced kindly for Josh Thewlis to ground the ball in the right corner. Sneyd converted and his influence grew as the game wore on during the second half with Rovers penned back towards their own line. But with time running out, the ball ran loose in the right corner and Davies touched down, levelling matters at 6-6 after being checked by the video referee before Lewis converted to send the massed ranks of Robins fans into ecstasy.
