The decision was announced by Harjot Singh Bains, Minister of School Education, Punjab.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Directorate of Elementary Education (Mid-Day Meal), and Canara Bank Chandigarh, in the presence of Bains, Thursday. This collaboration aims to provide vital financial protection and security to cook-cum-helpers.
The education minister informed that the scheme offers comprehensive benefits, including term insurance with Rs 1 lakh coverage for death with natural causes, Rs 16 lakhs for death due to accident, and air accident cover of 18 lakh. Furthermore, the scheme provides hassle-free banking with no minimum balance requirement, an instant overdraft facility of up to Rs 10,000 or 50 per cent of the previous month's net salary credited into their bank accounts to ensure ease and convenience for account holders.
'This scheme will greatly enhance the well-being of these essential workers to enable them to focus on their critical role in supporting our education system,' said Bains while adding that this initiative will go a long way to promote financial inclusion and security for cook-cum-helpers in the state government schools.

Coast Guard inducts fast patrol boat of Goa Shipyard

Panaji: The Indian Coast Guard on Thursday inducted ICGS Adamya, the first of eight fast patrol vessels (FPVs) from Goa Shipyard. ICGS Adamya is the first ship in its class to feature controllable pitch propellers and indigenously developed gearboxes for superior manoeuvrability, operational flexibility, and enhanced performance. The ICGS Adamya is equipped with a 30mm CRN-91 gun, two 12.7mm stabilised remote-control guns with fire control systems, and other advanced systems. These features will allow the vessel to operate with increased precision, efficiency, and responsiveness across India's extensive maritime domain. These fast patrol vessels will act as force multipliers in the Indian Coast Guard's operational fleet, enabling swift response for law enforcement, surveillance, rescue, and the protection of India's Exclusive Economic Zone. In 2022, the Indian Coast Guard placed an order for eight fast patrol vessels as part of a Rs 473 crore ($62.1 million) contract. GSL launched the first two FPVs - Adamya and Akshar - in Oct 2024, while the fifth one - Achal - was launched this month.

Lost over 10L? Call 1930 for automatic e-fraud FIR

Kolkata: The Kolkata Police has started training its personnel for the implementation of a new e-Zero FIR system, marking a significant shift in how cybercrime complaints — received on 1930 helpline or cybercrime portal — involving amounts exceeding Rs 10 lakh, will be processed, making it more time-bound and pinpointed. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The new system, utilising Application Programming Interface software, eliminates the traditional manual screening process. Previously, complaints underwent police personnel screening before being assigned to investigating officers, who then contacted complainants to conduct initial probes before lodging FIRs. Under the new regime, complaints will be automatically screened and categorised, with those involving amounts above Rs 10 lakh being converted into zero FIRs. These will then be automatically forwarded to the relevant cybercrime police stations. Complainants will have three days from the FIR registration date to sign the document. The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the ministry of home affairs, recently introduced this automated system that converts financial cybercrime complaints registered on the 1930 helpline or portal directly into FIRs. Rolled out in Delhi, the project is expected to cover Kolkata, Mumbai, and other metros soon in the second phase. "Since this will be a time-bound exercise and will need coordination as far as evidence collection is concerned, we are preparing a dedicated team to ensure proper rollout when the regime is implemented in the state," said a Kolkata Police officer.

Foundation stone for India's first Green Data Centre laid in Ghaziabad

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology Jitendra Singh on Thursday laid the foundation stone for India's first green data centre in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad. Expressing satisfaction about the CEL-ESDS Green Data Centre being developed by Central Electronics Limited (CEL), the CM said Uttar Pradesh will generate 20,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2027, with the public sector undertaking (PSU), a a Mini Ratna company, playing a key role in the mission. Speaking at the event, Adityanath described CEL's 50-year journey as a success story, saying the company has now entered the 'Amrit Kaal' and is playing a key role in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India. He recalled there was a time when CEL faced uncertain days and was even put on the list for disinvestment. 'But today, CEL has become a profit-making 'Mini Ratna' company and is handing over dividends to the government. This change is an inspiration for an atmanirbhar (self-reliant) India,' he added. The CM hailed CEL for its innovations in sectors like railways, defence, renewable energy, and education. CEL's technology and creativity are making the nation stronger and it plays a key role in areas such as smart classrooms, signaling systems, renewable energy modules, and defence equipment, he added. The CEL handed over a dividend cheque of Rs 21 crore to the Central government, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was exchanged between the PSU and Multi Infra, an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company for a 200 MW solar module project. The CM said CEL made India's first solar photovoltaic module in 1974 and is now setting up the country's first green data center. On the Defence Manufacturing Corridor, he said equipment for BrahMos missiles is also being produced with the help of organisations like CEL. Out of investment proposals worth Rs 50 lakh crore, Rs 15 lakh crore of investments have already started production after the groundbreaking ceremonies, he claimed. PM Modi has often stressed the need to connect educational institutions with industry, and Uttar Pradesh has excellent institutes like IITs, IIMs, universities, and central laboratories to help achieve this goal, the CM said. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said CEL invented the first solar cell back in 1970, and now it is about to set up a green data centre. He announced that the country's first quantum unit will soon be established at Noida. In addition, a biotechnology park will be set up near Lucknow and a two- or three-day startup conclave is planned for August, he added. CEL chairman and managing director Chetan Prakash Jain said the Green Data Centre is designed to consume less energy, offer full security and meet future requirements. Through partnership with ESDS, CEL is combining modern cloud and data centre technologies with sustainability, he said. The centre will feature modular PODs, smart cooling, reflective roofing, rainwater harvesting, and multi-ISP support. It will have a total capacity of 30 MW, with the possibility of installing up to 200 racks per floor. ESDS's patented technology and managed services have ensured that the center meets global standards.
