Just days after the Toronto Maple Leafs were bounced from the NHL playoffs, William Nylander popped up in Stockholm and not for vacation. The star winger has officially joined Team Sweden ahead of the 2025 IIHF Men's World Championship quarterfinals, turning heads and raising eyebrows in equal measure.
While fans are thrilled to see a hometown favorite back in yellow and blue, the timing of his arrival has sparked debate. Is Nylander the late-game boost Sweden needs or a risky shake-up to a squad that's already found its rhythm?

William Nylander's Most Stylish Plays Of The 2023-24 NHL Season
Few NHL stars carry the mystique and flair of William Nylander. Known for his dazzling skill and composure under pressure, Nylander earned his nickname 'Willy Styles' for a reason, his slick moves and effortless confidence light up any game.
But after the Leafs' heartbreaking loss to the Florida Panthers, many questioned if Nylander would have the mental and physical stamina to shift gears so quickly and jump into the grueling World Championship knockout rounds.
For Sweden, Nylander's arrival is both a blessing and a bold statement. It's his fourth time representing the Tre Kronor, but this year, the stakes are different. Playing on home ice in Stockholm, with a rabid crowd behind him, Nylander has an unmatched chance to inspire and dominate.
As teammate Rasmus Andersson remarked, Nylander 'has that swagger' and thrives when the pressure mounts, an asset Sweden desperately needs facing Czechia in the quarterfinals.
However, Sweden's coach Sam Hallam remains cautiously optimistic. While Nylander looked 'fresh and ready' in practice, Hallam stopped short of guaranteeing his place in the lineup, signaling concerns over fatigue and fitness after a tough NHL playoff run.
Critics argue that Nylander's presence could overshadow other players who have been grinding through the entire championship, potentially creating locker room tension. Yet supporters counter that his unique combination of skill, leadership, and calmness in high-stakes moments offers Sweden a psychological lift as much as a tactical one. 'He affects both the locker room and the game on the ice in a good way,' Hallam admitted, highlighting Nylander's positive influence beyond just goals and assists.

Kapil Dev on stampede during RCB IPL bash: Lives more important than celebration

Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev expressed concern over the stampede that killed 11 and injured 47 in Bengaluru during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 victory celebrations on Tuesday evening. The World Cup-winning former captain urged both organisers and the public to prioritise safety over celebration.'I feel very bad about that. I think we have to learn from each other. Next time something like this (victory parade) happens, people should be more conscious. People do make a mistake,' Kapil said on Thursday, as quoted by PTI news Dev urged teams and organisations to exercise caution and avoid big celebratory events in the future, learning a lesson or two from the tragic loss of lives in Bengaluru. 'Mistake should not be to that scale where you are having fun and you lose lives,' he said. 'In the future, if any team wins, keep it calm. Lives are more important than celebration. Let's put it that way.'The stampede broke out near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where over two lakh fans had gathered to celebrate RCB's first-ever IPL title. The stadium itself has a capacity of only 35,000. The RCB management reportedly sought permission from the Bengaluru City Police on June 3 but proceeded to tweet details of the parade route and timing without formal clearance. The tweet, which went viral, included a link for 'free passes (limited entry)', resulting in an overwhelming sources claim they had advised RCB to delay the event to Sunday, to allow for security arrangements and avoid weekday traffic congestion. However, the victory parade went ahead on June 4, a day after the final, with minimal coordination with civic and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) have since issued statements mourning the loss of lives and expressing solidarity with the families of the victims. Calling it a new chapter, Suryavanshi shared that he's excited to experience playing overseas for the first time. The squad will be led by Mumbai's Ayush Mhatre, another IPL debutant who played for CSK this season.
