US affirms GCC countries remain top allies at major Asian security summit
SINGAPORE: US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth affirmed on Saturday that the Gulf states are among the United States' allies, stressing that the 'America First' policy does not mean 'America alone,' but rather working alongside allies—including the Gulf countries—to achieve shared security.
His remarks came during a speech at the opening session of the 22nd edition of the Asian Security Summit held within the framework of the Shangri-La Dialogue, attended by Kuwaiti Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Sabah, along with defense ministers, military leaders, and security experts from 47 countries.
Hegseth stated, 'As I've said many times before, and it's important for this room to hear today, and all the world — America First certainly does not mean America alone. Especially alongside so many of our allies, model allies like Poland, (the Zionist entity), and the Gulf States, the Baltic States. And it does not mean ignoring the world. '

SINGAPORE: Kuwaiti Minister of Defense Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Sabah participated in the the 22nd edition of the Asian Security Summit held in Singapore.
High-level meetings
In a statement released Saturday, Sheikh Abdullah said that the first day of the summit featured a series of meetings between heads of state, government officials, and defense ministers. During this, he met with Zaqy Mohamad, Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Defense and for Sustainability and the Environment.
The ministry added that the meeting explored ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, particularly in military and security affairs. The two sides also discussed several topics of mutual interest, as well as regional and international issues.
During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah extended congratulations on the occasion of Singapore's 60th anniversary of independence and praised the deep and longstanding bilateral relationship, which began 40 years ago. He affirmed the strength of Kuwait-Singapore relations and the importance of expanding cooperation, especially in defense and security sectors.
On the sidelines of the summit, Sheikh Abdullah also held cordial conversations and bilateral discussions with several world leaders and senior defense officials. He met with French President Emmanuel Macron, President of Timor-Leste José Ramos-Horta, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Singaporean Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Cybersecurity Josephine Teo. These meetings included exchanges of views on strategic challenges at regional and international levels and ways to enhance joint efforts to support global peace and stability.
The agenda of the Shangri-La Dialogue includes discussions on global challenges such as maintaining balance in a competitive world, managing nuclear proliferation risks, and cybersecurity. Parallel sessions will also cover topics like defense innovation, maritime security, and managing regional crises.
Kuwait's Ambassador to Singapore, Ahmad Al-Shuraim, and the accompanying delegation attended the meetings alongside Minister Sheikh Abdullah. — Agencies

KUWAIT CITY, June 2: The Kuwaiti Hajj Mission has warned against the use of any irregular permits or the employment of individuals outside the authorized frameworks during the Hajj season, whether in service or administrative roles. In a press statement, the mission said 'we call on all Hajj caravans and citizens to strictly comply with all the regulations and instructions issued by the competent authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to avoid legal accountability and penalties that may include the cancellation of permits and the ban on entry to the holy sites.' The mission pointed out that cooperation with the authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is essential to the success of the Hajj season, and that adherence to regulations is a national and religious responsibility. It disclosed that the competent authorities in the Kingdom have granted Hajj caravans a maximum of four percent of the total number of authorized pilgrims, to be used to allocate support service personnel, provided that they are issued official Hajj permits. These personnel must be registered with the caravans and meet the approved requirements. It added that the Kingdom also allocated a maximum of 10 percent of the number of pilgrims for administrative support workers. They are permitted to work during the Hajj season following the regulations and conditions in force with the Saudi authorities, but they are not permitted to perform the Hajj rituals. It also stated that the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in the Kingdom issued a circular prohibiting citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries from entering this category of administrative workers. This follows the use of these permits to fraudulently perform Hajj in irregular ways, which is a clear violation punishable by law. It explained that this comes within the framework of ongoing coordination with the relevant authorities in the Kingdom to ensure that Hajj caravans and Kuwaiti citizens adhere to the regulations and instructions governing the Hajj ritual. Meanwhile, Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohammad Al-Wasmi confirmed that the Ministry of Islamic Affairs is directly informed about the progress of the Kuwaiti Hajj Mission's work and its preparations to receive Kuwaiti pilgrims. Al-Wasmi revealed, 'The activities, efforts, and work undertaken by the mission members are clear evidence of their dedication to completing the tasks assigned to them with precision and mastery.' He expressed his happiness 'that the mission is proceeding according to its plan and that success will be its ally.' He pointed out the vast experience of the mission members, which they have acquired over the past several years, alongside the new members who are dedicated to their work. He affirmed the mission's commitment to provide them with the necessary experience to enable the mission to perform its work with distinction. He also underscored the need for the committees to continue their efforts, remain active, and work as a team to achieve success. He added that this is not difficult to achieve, but success requires a great deal of effort, perseverance and patience; especially since success is not uncommon for the mission. He confirmed the ongoing communication with the committees to follow up the work of the mission and ease procedures for the Kuwaiti pilgrims.

75% Surge In Kuwaiti-to-Kuwaiti Marriages After Nationality Law Amendment
KUWAIT CITY, June 2: The amendment of some provisions of the Amiri Decree on the Kuwaiti Nationality Law – which aims to strengthen national identity, maintain public order and abolish Article Eight stipulating that the marriage of a foreign woman to a Kuwaiti man does not entail her becoming a Kuwaiti – has led to a 75 percent increase in the number of Kuwaiti women marrying Kuwaiti men and a lower rate of foreign marriages. The newspaper obtained a copy of the recent statistics issued by the Department of Legal Documentation at the Ministry of Justice, indicating that the number of marriages between Kuwaiti men and Kuwaiti women reached 2,916 from the beginning of January until the end of April 2025. The statistics showed that 332 Kuwaiti men got married to non-Kuwaiti women, 133 Kuwaiti women got married to non-Kuwaitis, 44 Kuwaiti men got married to Bedouns and 10 Kuwaiti women got married to Bedouns. In addition, the number of divorces between Kuwaiti husbands and Kuwaiti wives reached 1,419; while the number of divorces between Kuwaiti husbands and non-Kuwaiti wives reached 332, and 141 Kuwaiti women were divorced from non-Kuwaiti men. Moreover, a statistical analysis of the achievements of the Sharia Documentation Department in April 2025 revealed that the number of documented marriages, by nationality, reached 1,149. The rate of marriages where both spouses are Kuwaiti nationals was 75 percent, while the percentage of marriages where both spouses are non-Kuwaiti nationals was 13.4 percent. The rate of marriages where the husband is Kuwaiti and the wife is non-Kuwaiti was 8.4 percent, while the percentage of marriages where the husband is non-Kuwaiti and the wife is Kuwaiti was 3.2 percent of the total marriages. The total number of documented authentication cases by nationality of husband and wife reached 117. The rate of documented authentication cases in which both spouses are Kuwaiti citizens was 4.3 percent, while the percentage of documented authentication cases in which both spouses are non-Kuwaiti citizens was 29.9 percent. The rate of documented authentication cases in which the husband is Kuwaiti and the wife is non-Kuwaiti was 60.7 percent, while the percentage of documented authentication cases in which the husband is non-Kuwaiti and the wife is Kuwaiti was 5.1 percent. The total number of documented divorces by nationality of the husband and wife was 754. The percentage of documented divorces in which both spouses are Kuwaiti citizens was 59.1 percent, while the percentage of divorces in which both spouses is non-Kuwaiti citizens was 18.4 percent. The rate of divorces in which the husband is Kuwaiti and the wife is non-Kuwaiti was 15.9 percent, while the percentage of divorces in which the husband is non-Kuwaiti and the wife is Kuwaiti was 6.5 percent.

Kuwait welcomes Syrian President amid renewed engagement KUWAIT: The official visit of Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and his accompanying delegation to Kuwait Sunday carries special significance in the context of Kuwaiti-Syrian relations. During the visit, he held official talks with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, affirming Kuwait's steadfast and supportive stance toward Syria, its people, unity, and full sovereignty over its territory. Formal diplomatic ties between Kuwait and Syria were established on October 24, 1963, with Syria opening its first embassy in Kuwait. This was soon followed by the opening of the Kuwaiti Embassy in Damascus, marking a new phase of constructive cooperation and joint coordination on Arab and international issues. Over six decades, these relations have witnessed fruitful collaboration across various fields. However, between 2012 and 2024, relations were interrupted due to the security situation in Syria. On March 15, 2012, Kuwait announced the closure of its embassy in Damascus, in line with the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) position and due to deteriorating security conditions. Kuwaiti diplomats were instructed to leave Syria, and remaining Kuwaiti citizens were urged to depart swiftly. On December 30 of last year, ties witnessed a significant development with the visit of Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya to Damascus in his capacity as Chairman of the GCC Ministerial Council—a step reflecting the GCC's commitment to regional security and stability. Following his meeting with Syria's new head of government, President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, Al-Yahya stated that the visit delivered a message of solidarity from the GCC, affirming its unwavering position on the importance of preserving Syria's unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and rejecting external interference in its internal affairs. Syria also contributed to the liberation of Kuwait in 1991 by dispatching troops as part of the international coalition in implementation of United Nations resolutions. Kuwait, in turn, has repeatedly affirmed its support for Syria's efforts to regain its occupied Golan Heights. Kuwait took a clear stance on the Syrian crisis that began in 2011. It called, through the UN Security Council, for an end to war crimes, the facilitation of humanitarian aid delivery, and the lifting of sieges on civilian areas. Kuwait expressed grave concern over the continued use of heavy and internationally banned weapons against innocent civilians. It strongly condemned the forced displacement of the Syrian people and repeated attacks on medical facilities and civilian infrastructure, including airstrikes. Kuwait has stressed the need for international action to end the violence in Syria. Kuwait hosted the first three international donor conferences to support the humanitarian situation in Syria in 2013, 2014, and 2015, raising significant pledges—over 90 percent of which were fulfilled. In February 2016, Kuwait co-chaired the fourth donor conference with the UK, hosted in London, focusing on Syria and support for neighboring countries bearing the burden of the crisis. Kuwait has continued to participate in subsequent donor conferences, most recently the Brussels Conference hosted by the European Union in March this year. The conference was attended by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani and featured high-level international, Arab, and regional participation. Through KFAED, the Kuwait Red Crescent, and various Kuwaiti charities, Kuwait has provided significant humanitarian aid to displaced Syrians inside the country and to refugees in neighboring countries, especially Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey. Over the past five months, Kuwait has reaffirmed through numerous statements by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs its consistent position supporting Syria's unity and full sovereignty. It stressed the importance of international solidarity and stepped-up humanitarian and development efforts to support the Syrian people and ease their suffering. On December 9, 2024, Kuwait condemned the Zionist entity's occupation forces' takeover of the buffer zone on the Syrian border, calling it a blatant violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions. On May 2, it also condemned an airstrike launched by those forces near the presidential palace in Damascus, again calling it a clear violation of Syrian sovereignty. On May 13, Kuwait welcomed US President Donald Trump's announcement lifting sanctions on Syria.
