This Miso-Sesame Vinaigrette Is Dinner Insurance
There's this very distinct mode I hit — and I'm guessing a lot of people reading this will relate — when I'm too tired to make a capital-D Dinner, but I'm also too cheap to order delivery. There are things in my fridge that need using up, but I'm out of eggs (so no frittata or kitchen-sink scramble) and I've already made fried rice twice this week.
In these moments, I make a dressing.
I've sung the praises of Melissa Clark's all-purpose green sauce a lot in this newsletter, and now I'll turn my attention to another life-giving elixir, Kenji López-Alt's miso-sesame vinaigrette that's good on anything. It truly does live up to its name; I almost always make a double batch and never have any difficulty using it up. Toss it with bagged lettuce mix and leftover chicken — that's a nice salad! Spoon it over seared shrimp or fish and serve that over rice — that's a good rice bowl! Swipe cucumber coins, carrot sticks and hard-boiled egg halves through it — it's a dip! Or do what I'll do: Boil up some noodles, drain them well, then mix in some miso-sesame vinaigrette and too many sliced scallions. That's a slapdash noodle dish, and it's fantastic.

Questions—and constructive criticisms, like the comments made by Charles's sister Princess Anne—began to swirl about the lack of main characters left to represent the Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie off the bench was a refrain I began to hear over and over again during my years co-hosting the Royally Obsessed podcast. That also brings me to my next point: Not only did Beatrice step out for the Elephant Family gala, we've been seeing a lot more of another lesser-known royal lately: Her sister, Princess Eugenie. Eugenie was recently announced as a mentor for the King's Foundation's 35 Under 35 initiative and the sisters, together, have been more vocal—and frankly, formal—about promoting royal patronages (like their joint role as honorary patrons of Teenage Cancer Trust). Heck, they've even been making more regular appearances at what I think of as signature events in the royal diary (everything from the Chelsea Flower Show to Buckingham Palace garden parties). Bottom line: Someone seems to have given King Charles a note that looping in Beatrice and Eugenie, who are 9th and 12th in line to the throne, more is good for royal business—and I'm thrilled to see it. After all, anything that has the potential to humanize the royal family makes sense. Beatrice opening up about the premature birth of her daughter Athena; Eugenie helping others and bringing attention to anyone navigating a scoliolis diagnosis—it's authentic and vulnerable, but most importantly, it brings people in. It was a major loss when Harry and Meghan left for Canada first, then Montecito. And, regardless of your feelings about the monarchy they left behind, their royal shoes can't be filled by William and Kate alone—there's simply too much royal work to go around. The move to include more of Beatrice and Eugenie not only lightens that load, it extends the glamour of the monarchy and lifts the spirits of royal supporters, too. While I thought this would be a decision relegated to when Prince William—who is close with his cousins and likely sees their potential—becomes king, it seems like Charles caught wind of it sooner. Gabby Thomas Slams Critic Of Her Interracial Relationship
Olympian Gabby Thomas responded to a "gross" spectator who shouted weird comments at her as she prepared for a track meet. On Monday, the 3-time Olympic gold medalist took to social media to call out the person who heckled her as she stretched before running in the Women's 100-meter dash at the Grand Slam Track meet at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on Sunday. Gabby has won a total of five Olympic medals: three gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics (200-meter, 4x100-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay), a silver medal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (4x100-meter relay), and a bronze medal from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (200-meter). The 28-year-old ultimately finished in fourth place for the 100-meter and second place in the 200-meter sprint. She took to social media to reflect on the races. "Come on, Gabby. Don't choke like you did yesterday, Gabby. You're a choke artist. You're going down, Gabby." He continued to heckle her as someone next to him shouted, "Don't listen to him!" "Come on, Melissa [Jefferson-Wooden]," he continued. "Melissa got married this year — [she] got a Black husband. Gabby got a white guy. I want Melissa to win." This was in reference to Gabby recently getting engaged to her entrepreneur fiancé, Spencer McManes, who happens to be white. After sharing the post, some users called for the user to be banned from future track meets, as well as betting platforms. When Gabby found out the heckler was mocking her online and boasting about winning a bet at her expense, she decided to address him. "This grown man followed me around the track as I took pictures and signed autographs for fans (mostly children) shouting personal insults- anybody who enables him online is gross." Hecklers have become a common occurrence at sporting events, but sometimes people take things too far. I'm glad Gabby addressed it the way she did.
