Authorities investigate accidental shooting at Top Guns
A 70-year-old man was injured when his firearm accidentally discharged just after 10 a.m. Tuesday at Top Guns, according to the Vigo County Sheriff's Office.
The man was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital in apparent stable condition, the sheriff's office said.
The individual was holstering a personally owned 9mm handgun when it appeared to have caught on the victim's holster snap, causing the firearm to discharge, according to the sheriff's office.
The round entered through the man's upper left thigh exiting through the victim's lower left calf.
The first deputy to arrive found two tourniquets had already been placed on the victim by employees of the business.
Deputies were able to assist in the cutting and removal of the victim's lower garments and boot for treatment until medical personnel arrived. Once fire and medical personnel arrived and assumed patient care, interviews were conducted.
Top Guns, 5050 South Seventh Street just off South U.S. 41, Terre Haute, is a large gun store and indoor shooting range.
