Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said that families should not avoid theatres because of expensive refreshments
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday directed officials to regulate cinema ticket, food, and beverage prices across the state, citing concerns over monopolistic practices and unaffordable rates for moviegoers.
Raising objections to high prices of popcorn, soft drinks, and bottled water in theatres, Kalyan instructed authorities to monitor both pricing and quality standards. He further asked the authorities to initiate a probe wherever necessary.
'Families should not avoid theatres because of expensive refreshments," he said, adding that fair pricing could increase footfall and, in turn, boost tax revenues.
He said the government has taken note of monopolistic operations in both multiplexes and single-screen theatres, and a detailed probe has been ordered to identify and rectify irregularities.
Kalyan noted that ticket price hikes must be routed through the Telugu Film Chamber (TFC), not sought individually—even for his upcoming film Hari Hara Veera Mallu, slated for release on June 12.
'The government departments must perform their duties diligently, ensuring fair practices in pricing and operations," Kalyan said in a post on 'X', according to a briefing by Cinematography Minister K Durgesh.
Underscoring the need for clean drinking water and hygiene in cinemas, he called it a basic duty of theatre owners, to be enforced by municipal authorities.
Kalyan also demanded an impartial investigation into the closure of certain theatres, including any political interference—whether from the ruling party or his own Janasena Party.
He further stressed the need for stakeholder consultations, urging that inputs from Telugu film industry bodies be included in the state's upcoming film development policy.

Another T'gana Maoist leader killed in Bijapur

1 2 Hyderabad: In a continuing crackdown on Maoist leadership, security forces gunned down a senior CPI (Maoist) functionary from Telangana in an encounter near Bijapur in Chhattisgarh on Friday. The slain cadre was identified as Mailarapu Adelu, known by his aliases Bhaskar, Jangu Dada, and Mahesh—a key figure within the outlawed group. Bhaskar served as a Telangana state committee member and secretary of the Mancherial–Kumuram Bheem-Asifabad (MKB) divisional committee, a crucial zone for Maoist operations in Telangana. Undercover operations The encounter was part of a coordinated offensive by the Chhattisgarh police's special task force (STF), district reserve guard (DRG), and the CoBRA unit of the Central Reserve Police Force, aimed at dismantling the upper echelons of Maoist leadership in the region. Aged 53, Bhaskar hailed from Pochera village in Boath mandal of Telangana's Adilabad district. Born into a Scheduled Caste (Madiga) farming family, he reportedly dropped out of school before joining the Maoist ranks. Over the years, he rose through the cadre to become a senior strategist and operative . Fluent in Telugu, Hindi, and Gondi, he was said to have strong ties with tribal communities like the Gothikoyas, and was reportedly carrying an AK-47 rifle during the encounter. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 자신이 전략의 달인이라고 생각하시나요? 레이드 섀도우 레전드 Undo Telangana police records show he carried a bounty of 20 lakh. His wife, Kanthi Lingavva alias Anitha, also a divisional committee member in the same zone, was killed in an encounter in Dec 2022. Major setbacks to Maoists Friday's operation comes on the heels of the killing of central committee member Sudhakar, a top Maoist ideologue and head of the technical wing, who was neutralised in the same district on Thursday. These back-to-back operations follow the high-profile death of CPI (Maoist) general secretary Basavaraju in an encounter in Narayanpur on May 21. At 70, Basavaraju was the topmost leader of the outfit, and his death is widely seen as a severe blow to the Maoist command chain. UP Govt advisor Awanish Awasthi visits Vrindavan, holds talks over opposition to Banke Bihari corridor

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) [India] June 6 (ANI): Awanish Awasthi, advisor to the Uttar Pradesh government and former Chief Secretary, arrived in Vrindavan on Friday to address the ongoing opposition to the Banke Bihari Temple Corridor project. Awasthi began his visit by holding a meeting with officials to review the situation. He then visited the Banke Bihari Temple, where he performed the Dehri Pujan and offered Itr Seva. Following the rituals, he met with the temple's Goswami Sevayats to discuss the project, the resistance it has faced, and the potential benefits it could bring. After the discussions with the Goswamis, Awasthi's convoy proceeded to the Tourist Facility Centre (TFC) in Vrindavan, where he is currently holding a meeting with representatives from various sections of the local community to address concerns and deliberate on the corridor project. Earlier on May 27, the Supreme Court slammed the Uttar Pradesh government for 'hijacking' the litigation between two private parties over management of the Shri Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan. A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma said that if the state government starts entering into private disputes between parties, it will result in a 'breakdown of the rule of law. The bench asked the counsel appearing for the state, 'Was the state a party to the proceedings? In what capacity has the state entered the dispute? If states start entering into private disputes between parties, it will break the rule of law. You can't hijack the litigation. In private litigation between two parties, a state filing an impleadment application and hijacking it is not permissible.' The apex court's observation came while hearing a petition seeking the modification of its order permitting the Uttar Pradesh government to utilise funds from the Shri Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan to purchase five acres of land around the temple for corridor development. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for petitioner Devendra Nath Gooswami, told the bench that a fund of Rs 300 crore has been given to the Uttar Pradesh government without making him a party. 'They can't take away the funds of a private temple,' said Sibal. On the other hand, counsel appearing for the Uttar Pradesh government told the bench the state has passed an Ordinance and set up a trust to manage the Banke Bihari temple and oversee work on the proposed corridor. 'Now, the enactment has come into force. Funds are with the Trust, not with the state. This enforcement will dilute the direction of the apex court. The state is not using the funds. The Ordinance bars the state from implementing the court's direction, and the Ordinance says the Trust will manage funds and the state has no role to play,' said the counsel of Uttar Pradesh. The apex court then directed the counsel for the state government to place on record a copy of the Ordinance passed concerning the Trust. It directed the concerned Principal Secretary to file an affidavit by July 29. The petition filed by Gooswami said he was a 'lineal descendant' of the temple's founder, Swami Hari Das Goswami, and his family had been managing the affairs of the sacred temple for the last 500 years. He said he actively managed the temple's daily religious and administrative affairs. In filing the plea, he said the implementation of the proposed redevelopment project was practically unfeasible, and any attempt to redevelop the temple premises without the involvement and input of those who were historically and operationally associated with the temple's functioning was likely to result in administrative chaos. On May 15, the top court had permitted the state to use the Trust's fund and also allowed the use of Sri Banke Bihari Temple Trust's fixed deposits after taking into note the state government's Rs. 500 crore development plan for the corridor.
