Wave of anger in Security Council after US "veto"

Saba Yemena day ago

New York - (Saba):
The United States' use of its veto yesterday, Wednesday, against a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and allowing unrestricted humanitarian access to the besieged Strip has angered the rest of the UN Security Council members.
Pakistani Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed strongly criticized the US veto, considering it a "green light for genocide" in Gaza and a "moral stain on the conscience" of the UN Security Council.
His Algerian counterpart, Ammar Ben Jamaa, said, "Silence does not defend the dead, nor does it hold the hands of the dying, nor does it confront the repercussions of injustice."
Slovenian Ambassador Samuel Zbogar said, "At a time when humanity is being tested live in Gaza, this draft resolution was born out of our shared sense of responsibility. Responsibility towards the civilians in Gaza, towards the Israeli hostages held in the Palestinian Strip, and responsibility before history." He added, "Enough, enough."
For their part, the French and British ambassadors expressed regret over the outcome of the vote, while Chinese Ambassador Fu Cong directly blamed the United States, calling on it to abandon political calculations and adopt a fair and responsible stance.

Iran: Raids on Beirut's suburbs blatant aggression against Lebanon's territorial integrity, sovereignty

Tehran – Saba: The Islamic Republic of Iran described the Israeli enemy's airstrikes on Lebanon as a "blatant aggression against Lebanon's territorial integrity and sovereignty." Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei condemned the Israeli airstrikes on residential areas in the southern suburbs of Beirut on the eve of Eid al-Adha on Friday, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA. Baghaei pointed out that the Israeli entity's repeated attacks on Lebanon come amid the silence and inaction of the Security Council, emphasizing the direct responsibility of the United States and France as guarantors of the ceasefire between Lebanon and the Israeli entity. He emphasized that the Israeli entity cannot continue its blatant violations of the law and blatant breaches of the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law without a green light and American support. He stressed the need for the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities in addressing the violations of the ceasefire agreement and the aggressive actions of the Zionist entity, calling on the Council to take practical measures in accordance with the duties assigned to it under the UN Charter. Baghaei considered that the continued rebellion of the Zionist entity in the region and its aggression against Lebanon and other Islamic countries further demonstrates that the only way to preserve the independence and national sovereignty of states is to strengthen their defensive capabilities and honorable resistance against the Israeli enemy. Hajjah gov sees protests in solidarity with Gaza after Eid prayers

Hajjah – Saba: Protests erupted in Hajjah governorate on Friday, following Eid al-Adha prayers and sermons, expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza. Led by governor Hilal al-Sufi and other officials, participants chanted slogans disavowing enemies of Islam, America and Israel. They condemned the Zionist enemy's crimes of genocide in Gaza amidst shameful Arab and Islamic inaction. The protestors also denounced the "almost daily desecration" and incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, including "blasphemy and insults against the Prophet of Islam." A statement from the protests declared full and constant solidarity with the Palestinian people, asserting they are "not alone." It condemned America's veto in the UN Security Council as clear evidence of its partnership in Israeli crimes and called on Arab and Islamic nations to fulfill their responsibilities towards the violations against Palestinians, al-Aqsa, and the Prophet, warning of divine punishments for inaction. The statement also urged consoling the poor, maintaining family ties, and charitable acts on Eid. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print more of (Local)
