WhatsApp banned on US House of Representatives devices
WASHINGTON, June 23 (Reuters) - Meta Platforms (META.O), opens new tab WhatsApp messaging service has been banned on all U.S. House of Representatives devices, according to a memo sent to House staff on Monday.
The notice to all House staff said the "Office of Cybersecurity has deemed WhatsApp a high-risk to users due to the lack of transparency in how it protects user data, absence of stored data encryption, and potential security risks involved with its use."
The memo, from the Chief Administrative Officer, recommended other messaging apps, including Microsoft Corp's(MSFT.O), opens new tab Teams platform, Amazon.com's (AMZN.O), opens new tab Wickr, Signal, Apple's iMessage, and Facetime.
Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Bahama Breeze could offload remaining restaurants
The future of Bahama Breeze is in limbo a month after Olive Garden-owner Darden shuttered over a third of its restaurants. Darden confirmed the company 'will be considering strategic alternatives' following the brand's sharp sales decline. These alternatives include potentially selling the brand or 'converting restaurants to other Darden brands.' 'After further review, we have made the difficult decision that these remaining locations and the Bahama Breeze brand are not a strategic priority for us,' said Darden CEO Ricardo Cardenas. The news came after the company made the sudden decision to close 15 restaurants. Darden spokesperson Kiara Buckner explained at the time that the company believed the closures were 'the right decision' to strengthen Bahama Breeze's performance. The company has not revealed what 'alternative' its leaning toward and whether there are any potential bidders. However, it believes Bahama Breeze could thrive under new ownership. Founded in 1996, the small, Caribbean-inspired restaurant chain opened its first location in Orlando, Florida. Bahama Breeze expanded to other states and operated approximately 43 locations by 2014. Following the abrupt closures, only 29 of these longtime restaurants remain in operation. Darden has shown no signs of slowing down its powerhouse restaurant chains like Olive Garden and LongHorns, one of the nation's favorite restaurant chains. Olive Garden started giving customers the option to place orders its website or app and have them delivered by Uber drivers . It's also refreshed its menu, launched a new Spicy Three-Meat Sauce, and limited-edition products for the summer season, including pool floats and items inspired by fan-favorite offerings. This brand, along with LongHorns, Yard House, and other Darden-owned chains have yet to experience the same level of mass closures as Bahama Breeze. However, Olive Garden noticeably lost its title of being the top US restaurant after holding the top spot for seven years. Bahama Breeze is not the only restaurant chain exploring alternatives to recover from things like declining customer traffic and inflation. Jack in the Box began searching for bidders to purchase the Del Taco brand before announcing Jack in the Box it would close up to 200 restaurants . Hooters is in the middle of selling off restaurants after filing for bankruptcy in March. However, Hogan's Real American Beer is reportedly eyeing an all-cash offer to bid for some of its intellectual property. Unlike the others, the Bojangles chain is searching for a buyer not because it's struggling, but because it's thriving. Some buyers acted quickly, including Pappas Restaurants, successfully bidding on On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina in May for $10 million two months after the chain filed for bankruptcy protection . has reached out to Darden for comment about the closures.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Georgia Republican, dragged Fox News host Mark Levin, who called her a 'shameless nitwit' over her criticisms of the Trump administration's decision to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities. Early Sunday morning in Iran, the U.S. struck three nuclear sites, becoming involved in Tehran's conflict with Israel, which began a week prior. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have been vocally critical of Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons. Iran launched missile strikes on a U.S. military base in Qatar Monday in response to the nuclear site bombing. Trump's decision to strike Iran's nuclear facilities has caused some division among his Make America Great Again base. Greene, who is usually a staunch supporter of Trump, has spoken out against the president repeatedly for his decision to get involved with the destruction of Iran's advancing nuclear capabilities. Greene, an anti-immigration hardliner, wrote on X Sunday, 'I don't know anyone in America who has been the victim of a crime or killed by Iran, but I know many people who have been victims of crime committed by criminal illegal aliens or MURDERED by Cartel and Chinese fentanyl/drugs.' She added: 'I've watched our country go to war in foreign lands for foreign causes on behalf of foreign interests for as long as I can remember.' 'America is $37 TRILLION in debt and all of these foreign wars have cost Americans TRILLIONS AND TRILLIONS of dollars that never benefited any American. American troops have been killed and forever torn apart physically and mentally for regime change, foreign wars, and for military industrial base profits. 'I'm sick of it. I can easily say I support nuclear armed Israel's right to defend themselves and also say at the same time I don't want to fight or fund nuclear armed Israel's wars. Nor any other country for that matter,' Greene wrote. Greene made clear that her criticism of Trump's decision to bomb Iran is not a sign of 'disloyalty.' 'I can also support President Trump and his great administration on many of the great things they are doing while disagreeing on bombing Iran and getting involved in a hot war that Israel started,' she said. Mark Levin, who hosts Life, Liberty & Levin on Fox News, called Greene a 'shameless nitwit' in response to her X post. 'How incredibly dumb is this Marjorie Taylor Green? She doesn't know anyone in America who has been a victim of crime or killed by Iran? You mean the thousands of Americans, especially military personnel, killed and maimed by the Iranian terrorist regime?' he wrote on X Monday.

Mahmoud Khalil welcomed back to NYC with cheers after release from ICE detention
Pro-Palestinian activist and Columbia University student, Mahmoud Khalil, was welcomed back to New York City with cheers after release from ICE detention, footage from Saturday (22 June) shows. Khalil was released from a Louisiana detention center, where he was held for more than three months, on Friday and entered New York again the following day. Mr Khalil has been released on bail while legal challenges against his arrest and threat of removal from the country continue in both federal and immigration courts. He has been reunited with his wife and son, who was born while he was detained.
