La Liga midfielder admits admiration for Xabi Alonso amid Real Madrid links

With Real Madrid scouring the market for a new midfielder, one of the most prominent names linked with the club has been Real Sociedad ace Martin Zubimendi. However, it has been suggested that the Basque star, who has a €60 million release clause, is headed for Arsenal, who have been working to sign him for months now. Advertisement Despite the reports, nothing seems to be fully finalised at the moment and at a recent media appearance, Zubimendi opened up on his future as well as the links to Real Madrid. Zubimendi idolises Xabi Alonso It must be remembered that Real Madrid's new manager Xabi Alonso worked with Zubimendi for a season when he was in charge of the Real Sociedad B team at the start of his coaching career. As such, Alonso's appointment at the Santiago Bernabeu has only fuelled speculations of a move for Zubimendi. And the midfielder was asked if he had received a call from his former coach to join him at Real Madrid. Zubimendi has been linked with Real Madrid. The following season I joined the first team.' Advertisement Continuing, he added: 'Well, I don't like to talk about these hypotheses, I prefer to talk about the present, because I also think it would be disrespectful to answer from the national team training camp and before facing such an important competition.' Regarding his future, Zubimendi refused to confirm the move to Arsenal, even suggesting that he might end up staying at Real Sociedad. 'Of course there are options, but it's true that it looks like it's going to be a different, long summer and I don't know how it's going to end,' said the midfielder. 'I don't think it's my priority right now to think about it, I'm here in the national team, which I already think is quite demanding, and if I have to say something, then I'll say it.' Sunderland make Le Fee move permanent for record fee

Enzo Le Fee (right) has joined Sunderland on a permanent deal from Roma (Alberto PIZZOLI) Sunderland have signed Enzo Le Fee from Roma for a reported club record fee after the French midfielder helped the Black Cats gain promotion back to the Premier League. The 25-year-old arrived at the Stadium of Light on a six-month loan in January and was a key player as Sunderland won the Championship play-offs after finishing fourth in the table. Advertisement Le Fee has penned a four-year deal and will cost a reported £19.3million ($26 million) after a clause in his loan deal was activated once Sunderland sealed promotion. "I said before the play-off final that my heart was in Sunderland - I wanted to stay and this made it the most important game of my life. Together, we did it," Le Fee told the club website. "From the moment I arrived, I have enjoyed my football, my team-mates and our supporters. We shared an incredible experience and now we get to take the next step." Le Fee had previously worked with Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris at Lorient before joining Rennes and a big money move to Roma less than 12 months ago. However, he made just 10 appearances for the Italian giants before being loaned out. kca/bsp

Al-Ahli to rival Newcastle for the signing of Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi

Chelsea FC centre-back Axel Disasi (27) is not expected to stick around for long at Stamford Bridge as several clubs are showing an interest in the former AS Monaco defender, according to Foot Mercato. After a rather convincing debut season under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino, Disasi has been found lacking game time with Enzo Maresca in the dugout. The Italian head coach sanctioned Disasi's loan move to Premier League rivals Aston Villa during the winter transfer window. The outlet adds that Disasi's return to Stamford Bridge should be short-lived as Newcastle United and Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli are interested in signing the France international. Foot Mercato understands that many other clubs are expected to enter the race to sign Disasi, whose long-term Chelsea contract expires in 2029. What's more, Chelsea are already planning for life without Disasi as they intend to bring Strasbourg centre-back Mamadou Sarr for the Club World Cup. GFFN | Bastien Cheval
