Northampton's Champions Cup dream was crushed as French giants Bordeaux-Begles' second-half power muscled out a 28-20 victory in the final in Cardiff.Saints, who upset four-time champions Leinster in the semi-finals, had threatened to conjure another shock with Alex Coles' tries at either end of the first half giving them a 20-20 share of the scoreline at the break.Bordeaux's sparkling backline took a back seat for the second half however as their forwards, including six of the replacements, gradually wore down Northampton.Second row Cyril Caseaux scored the only try of the second period, barging over from short range.It was a route that Bordeaux took again and again, but a stubborn Northampton defence repelled them repeatedly.Ultimately though, short of possession and territory, there was no way back into the lead for Saints and their wait for a second Champions Cup, now a quarter of a century old, goes on.More to follow.

A whopping 182 players have their contracts expiring at the end of the month. 10 10 10 Some players, such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jorginho and Kieran Tierney, have already found new homes. However, there are plenty still on the hunt for a deal at a new club. Veterans such as Kevin De Bruyne and Christian Eriksen will be hoping to find new clubs before next season starts. De Bruyne is undoubtedly the biggest star without a club from the Premier League. The Manchester City legend has won it all in England during his decade at the Etihad. He has already shown he still has plenty to offer as he netted Belgium 's winner against Wales this week. It is believed that the midfielder will have his future sorted quickly, with Serie A giants Napoli his likely destination. Ashley Young, 39, is another notable addition to the free agents list. The now-defender has a wealth of top-flight experience, having previously won titles at Manchester United. Manchester City sign Tijjani Reijnders to take spending this week past £100m
Manchester City have taken their early summer spending to more than £100m after making Tijjani Reijnders their fourth signing in three days. The Netherlands midfielder has arrived from Milan for €55m (£46.6m) and joins Rayan Aït-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki at the club. All four will be available for the Club World Cup, with City's first match against Wydad AC taking place next Wednesday, after Reijnders signed before Tuesday's deadline. Reijnders has a five-year deal as Pep Guardiola looks to revitalise his squad after an underwhelming season by the club's standards, finishing a distant third in the Premier League and collecting no silverware thus far. City were also active in the January window, spending more than £180m on four players. Their outlay in 2025 stands at £288m. Reijnders said: 'City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities. Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years. 'It is also a dream come true to play in the Premier League. This league has seen many of the best Dutch players perform through the years and it's an inspiration to follow in their footsteps.' There has also been a reshuffle off the pitch, with City appointing the former Liverpool assistant head coach Pepijn Lijnders to Guardiola's staff and taking James French, an analyst at Anfield for more than a decade, as a set-piece coach. City's director of football, Hugo Viana, said of Reijnders: 'He arrives here with extensive top-level experience in Europe, both at club level as well as on the international stage with the Netherlands. Tijjani adds extra energy, composure and creativity to our midfield.'
