Instant arrests over hate content ordered

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered the adoption of zero-tolerance against violation of a code of conduct for ensuring peace during Muharram. Presiding over a meeting, she ordered immediate arrest of anyone found involved in spreading hateful content on social media.
The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to enforce a ban on displaying banners, posters and wall chalking throughout the province. She also ordered immediate arrest of those violating the ban on flying drones during Muharram. She directed the provincial ministers, commissioners, deputy commissioners, RPOs and DPOs to oversee the arrangements for the occasion and contact religious scholars for the purpose.
Chief Minister Maryanm Nawaz directed the Punjab Safe Cities Authority to make functional the out of order surveillance cameras. She also directed the Special Monitoring Unit to monitor and report on hate content. She directed the authorities to launch drills of security arrangements and to install 'sabeels' in a uniform manner for Muharram gatherings for distributing refreshing drinks, lemonade and cold water bottles.
It was agreed during the meeting to install iron railings for security during the processions and gatherings.
The chief minister issued directives to sprinkle water to protect the participants of the gatherings from severe heat and humidity along with other steps to protect them from heatstroke. She ordered the setting up of field hospitals and Clinics on Wheels along the Ashura procession routes along with an effective traffic management plan and advisories. She also called for arrangements to ensure timely drainage of water in case of rainfall.
The chief minister also ordered activation of the hotel and travel surveillance web applications, continuation of combing operations and the acquisition of an anti-drone system.
She said the SOPs for the occasion should be implemented in letter and spirit.
She said hanging electric wires posed a big risk and they should be urgently removed. There should be no power outage at during the gatherings street lights should not be turned off, she added.
"It is our foremost responsibility to safeguard the country and the nation from hatred, prejudice and disunity. Division and hatred are poisonous for the new generation and we want to eliminate the at all cost. There is a dire need to take effective and sustainable measures to eradicate hatred and prejudice," she said.

LAHORE: Commissioner Lahore, Zaid bin Maqsood, announced that preparations for Muharram are being carried out in accordance with the guidelines and SOPs set by the Punjab government, with daily reviews in place. "Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued special instructions to ensure the best arrangements for the religious events occurring during Muharram," he stated during his visits to major imam bargahs in Lahore on Wednesday. He toured the Imam Bargah Minhaj-ul-Hussain in Johar Town and the Markazi Imam Bargah in Model Town. The Commissioner confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made along the procession route. He added that the administration is in close contact with the organisers and license holders. Additionally, he met with Jafariya Central leader Allama Dr Muhammad Hussain Akbar at the Minhaj Hussain Jamia office. During this visit, the Assistant Commissioners from Model Town and Iqbal Town briefed the Commissioner on the arrangements made, including central monitoring, medical camps, street lighting, temporary public toilets, and drainage systems, which have all been completed. CM approves development of 189 cities under PDP

LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, while chairing a special meeting regarding the Punjab Development Programme (PDP), accorded an approval for the construction and development of 189 cities under the PDP. It was agreed to constitute a Project Management Unit for the completion of the Punjab Development Programme in the province. Under the PDP, construction and development projects will be completed in various cities in collaboration with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. Under the World Bank's Project Punjab Inclusive Cities Programme (PICP), 15 cities will be uplifted and developed. Under the Asian Development Bank's Project DREAMS-II, four cities will be constructed and developed. Under the ADP project, development programmes in 11 cities will be completed on a priority basis. Under the World Bank's Project PICP, development programmes will be completed in 16 cities. Under the Punjab Development Programme, 144 cities have been incorporated in the Annual Development Programme (ADP). Under the PDP, construction and development projects will be carried out in 144 cities of Punjab. The chief minister directed all the relevant departments to complete these projects in collaboration with other stakeholders. She directed to introduce steps to introduce bye-laws to fix uniform design for shops across the province. K-P police acquire anti-drone tech

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police have acquired the technology to target and down terrorists' drones from miles away, Express News reported on Wednesday. According to the report, these drones could be used by the police for the security of important government events, personalities and buildings. Quoting its sources, Express News report said that terrorists have used drones for terrorism in North Waziristan and southern districts of K-P. During the recent military conflict, India had also used drones in attacks on Pakistan. "We are working on acquiring more advanced technology and equipping the police with modern weapons and equipment," the report quoted K-P police chief Zulfiqar Hameed as saying. "The anti-drone system will also be used for security in Muharram processions."
