Nike delays launch of women's brand in partnership with Kim Kardashian's Skims
[NEW YORK] Nike's launch of a new women's activewear brand in the US through a partnership with Kim Kardashian-owned shapewear label Skims has been delayed, the Air Jordan maker's spokesperson told Reuters on Wednesday (Jun 18).
The partnership, which was announced in February, is part of new CEO Elliott Hill's plan to turn the struggling company around and broaden its product offerings to compete with brands such as Roger Federer-backed On and Deckers' Hoka.
Skims, which was launched in 2019, has seen growing demand for its premium bras, loungewear and shapewear.
With anticipation high among stakeholders and consumers, the two sides have delayed the launch as they work to get the product right, the Nike spokesperson said. The delay was first reported by Bloomberg News.
The new brand is set to be called NikeSKIMS, and is expected to include training apparel, footwear and accessories for women.
The initial plan was to launch its first collection at some US retail locations in the spring of this year, as well as on its website. It was to be available more widely in 2026.
The partnership with Skims has been applauded by investors and analysts, who hope it will help Nike make up ground after falling behind in the women's activewear market, where Lululemon and Gap's Athleta have emerged as a winners. REUTERS

[TOKYO] Shell CEO Wael Sawan said on Thursday the oil and gas major was being 'very careful' with its shipping through the Middle East given the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. The Iran-Israel air war entered a seventh day on Thursday with President Donald Trump keeping the world guessing on whether the United States will join the fighting. 'The escalation in tensions over the last few days, in essence, has added to what has already been significant uncertainty in the region,' he told an industry conference in Tokyo. 'We're being very careful with, for example, our shipping in the region, just to make sure that we do not take any unnecessary risks.' About 20 per cent of the world's oil and fuel flows through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway in the Middle East, and Sawan said what was particularly challenging was electronic interference disrupting commercial ship navigation systems. 'The Strait of Hormuz is, at the end of the day, the artery through which the world's energy flows, and if that artery is blocked, for whatever reason, it'll have a huge impact on global trade,' he said. Sawan said the rise in oil and gas prices in recent days has been 'moderate' as investors wait to see whether physical infrastructure might be damaged. Oil prices have risen to their highest levels in more than two months this week. Air India to cut international flights on widebody aircraft by 15%, Asia News
Air India said on Wednesday (June 18) it will cut international operations on its widebody aircraft by 15 per cent for the next few weeks, citing ongoing safety inspections and operational disruptions following last week's deadly crash of one of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Authorities continue to investigate the crash of flight AI171, which killed 241 people and marked the world's deadliest aviation disaster in a decade. The airline said in a statement that inspections had been completed on 26 of its 33 Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft, and those 26 have been cleared for service. The cuts, effective until at least mid-July, were being implemented "to ensure stability of operations, better efficiency and minimise inconvenience to passengers," the Tata Group-owned airline said. The remaining planes will be checked in the coming days and additional checks are also planned for its Boeing 777 fleet, Air India added. Flight AI171, bound for London's Gatwick Airport, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing all but one on board and about 30 people on the ground. Earlier on Wednesday, Air India Chairman N. Chandrasekaran said the flight that crashed had a clean engine history. In an interview with Indian broadcaster Times Now, Chandrasekaran said Air India flight 171's right engine was new and installed in March 2025, and that the left engine was last serviced in 2023. The Dreamliner was fitted with GE Aerospace's GEnx engines. Air India also cited geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and "night curfews in many European and East Asian airspaces" as contributing factors behind flight cancellations, which have totalled 83 over the past six days.
