Instead, he was woken up later by a neighbour who rushed round to check if he was okay.
The tired man said: "The doorbell rang at a time when I don't really like opening the door.
"I like to go back to sleep. But it was a very insistent ring, so I finally went to answer it."
He added bluntly: "And there's a guy I know very well standing there, looking at me in amazement and saying: 'Have you not seen the ship?'

The ship, which is more than twice the height of the local's house, is seen docked just outside the Norwegian's front porch.
A man, who is not confirmed to be Helber himself, is seen walking away casually from the site of the impact.
Local policeman Roger Gustafson said an investigation would be launched to try to find out what exactly caused the huge ship to crash.
He added there was currently no suspicion of anyone being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
No injuries or oil spills were reported either, and authorities now plan to remove the ship at high tide.

A-ha frontman Morten Harket has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease

MORTEN HARKET, THE frontman of synth-pop band A-ha, has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The 65-year-old's diagnosis was announced in an article on the Norwegian band's website , written by their biographer Jan Omdahl. Omdahl said that he was asked to contribute the article to the band's website revealing Harket's condition after it was initially kept strictly private. Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder. It primarily affects movement but also impacts other bodily functions. There is no cure. 'It used to bother me to think about my sickness becoming public knowledge,' Harket is quoted as saying in the article. 'In the long run it bothers me more to have to protect something that is strictly a private matter by treating it as a secret.' A-ha was formed in 1982 with Magne Furuholmen and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy alongside Harket. Alamy Stock Photo Alamy Stock Photo Now a father of five and a grandfather, Harket said of his condition: 'I've got no problem accepting the diagnosis. With time I've taken to heart my 94-year-old father's attitude to the way the organism gradually surrenders: 'I use whatever works''. He has already undergone two successful neurological procedures to minimise in symptoms in the last year. When asked by Omdahl if he could 'sing now at all', Morten replied that he didn't know. ''I don't really know. I don't feel like singing, and for me that's a sign. I'm broadminded in terms of what I think works; I don't expect to be able to achieve full technical control. The question is whether I can express myself with my voice. As things stand now, that's out of the question. But I don't know whether I'll be able to manage it at some point in the future.' Harket said that he 'won't process' alternative theories and opinions from well-meaning individuals, saying that he is in the care of professionals. To his fans, he said, 'Don't worry about me. Find out who you want to be – a process that can be new each and every day. Be good servants of nature, the very basis of our existence, and care for the environment while it is still possible to do so. Spend your energy and effort addressing real problems, and know that I am being taken care of.' Readers like you are keeping these stories free for everyone... Trump says Putin told him Russia will respond to Ukrainian attack on airfields

US President Donald Trump said Russian President Vladimir Putin told him 'very strongly' in a phone call on Wednesday that he will respond to Ukraine's weekend drone attack on Russian airfields. The US president said in a social media post that 'it was a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate peace.' The call that lasted for an hour and 15 minutes was Mr Trump's first known with Mr Putin since May 19. Ukraine's Security Service gave more details on Wednesday about its weekend drone strike on Russian air bases, which it claimed destroyed or damaged 41 Russian aircraft, including strategic bombers. The agency claimed the planes struck included A-50, Tu-95, Tu-22, Tu-160, An-12, and Il-78 aircraft, adding that artificial intelligence helped guide the drones thousands of kilometres from Ukraine. It also said it set off an explosion on Tuesday on the seabed beneath the Kerch Bridge, a vital transport link between Russia and illegally annexed Crimea, claiming it caused damage to the structure. But Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that there was no damage. Russia's Defence Ministry said on Wednesday that its troops have taken control of another village in Ukraine's northern Sumy region, on the border with Russia. Mr Putin announced on May 22 that Russian troops aim to create a buffer zone that might help prevent Ukrainian cross-border attacks. Since then, Russia's Ministry of Defence claims its forces have taken control of nine Sumy villages.
