Reuters06-05-2025

May 6 - The Arizona Cardinals signed veteran tight end and special teams player Josiah Deguara on Monday.
He joins a tight end room led by 2024 Pro Bowl selection Trey McBride and reserves including veterans Travis Vokolek and Elijah Higgins, and rookie Oscar Cardenas, signed as a free agent after last month's draft.
Deguara, 28, has 50 receptions on 61 targets for 450 yards and two touchdowns in 65 regular-season games over parts of five seasons with the Green Bay Packers (2020-23) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2024).
He caught all three of his targets for 14 yards in 15 games with the Jaguars. He also played a career-high 62 percent of special teams snaps (243). He has taken 939 offensive snaps and 802 special teams snaps in his career.
Green Bay selected Deguara in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Louis Rees-Zammit makes Wales rugby admission in live TV interview as he returns to UK

Louis Rees-Zammit makes Wales rugby admission in live TV interview as he returns to UK The Jacksonville Jaguars player gave an interview to Sky Sports about his NFL career and whether he would return to rugby Louis Rees-Zammit enters the Sky studios in west London (Image: Instagram/Louis Rees-Zammit ) Louis Rees-Zammit admits he misses playing rugby for Wales and has left the door ajar for a possible return to the sport in the future. The Welsh NFL prospect has re-signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars ahead of the 2025/26 season, following his first full campaign in the sport. The Jaguars are set to return to London for a regular-season fixture, alongside the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns. In the build-up to the event, Rees-Zammit has travelled back to the UK to help promote his team's Family Fun Day at Ealing Trailfinders rugby club this Saturday. ‌ Rees-Zammit was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs last season before being snapped up by the Florida-based outfit. He did, however, remain on the training squad and did not make the 53-man playing roster. It looks set to be a gruelling few months ahead for the 24-year-old as he bids to make the active squad for next season. ‌ "It's been a whirlwind year and a half, two years now. I haven't had time to really look back on it," he told Sky Sports. Sign up to Inside Welsh rugby on Substack to get exclusive news stories and insight from behind the scenes in Welsh rugby. "I'm still trying to make it in Jacksonville and treating every day the same, working as hard as I can and try to be a great team-mate and learn from them. They've been playing the sport for years and years and I'm just coming into it. "We have just had a 10-week camp we finished last weekend. It's been very intense, learning a new playbook - it's my third playbook in the last year. Article continues below "I am really looking forward to the future. We have a month off now before training camp starts and the pre-season games, where I am going to try and put my best foot forward and make the 53." Since the former rugby wing's departure from the sport for a new jaunt in America, Wales' fortunes on the field have been dire. Wales have lost a record-breaking 17 Test matches in a row and Rees-Zammit admits it's been painful watching from afar. Nevertheless, a proud Welshman, he admits he misses pulling on the red jersey. ‌ "I obviously miss playing for my country. I have got to get a balance, a little bit," he said of playing rugby for Wales. "I'm obviously loving life over in America, but my country is always going to be my country, so when I was able to play for Wales it was a dream come true." And what about a possible return to rugby in the future? "You never know in life, do you? Anything can happen," he said. ‌ "I'm still young, which is a good thing, I'm only 24, so I have got time on my side. So we will see what happens." For now, at least, with Rees-Zammit laser-focussed on getting into the Jaguars' active playing roster, Wales are going to have to end the winning drought without him, with a two-Test tour of Japan next up. "I think this is going to be a great, fresh start for them, playing in Japan under Matt Sherratt," he added. Article continues below "There are two players who have gone to the Lions from Wales, so they have got a good bulk of players who will come through to play in the next few years. "I think it will be a great tour for them and fingers crossed I'm hoping they'll win."

Report: Bengals restart talks with star DE Trey Hendrickson

June 15 - The Cincinnati Bengals and star defensive end Trey Hendrickson have reportedly resumed contract discussions. The NFL sack leader has been at odds with the franchise over the lack of a contract extension, but ESPN reported Sunday that dialogue has picked up. Hendrickson, 30, skipped last week's mandatory three-day mini-camp and is reportedly subject to $105,000 in fines. Hendrickson is slated to earn $15.8 million in base salary in 2025. That pales in comparison to the recent $40 million average deal Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett signed in the offseason. Hendrickson has indicated he won't play without a bump in pay and expressed disappointment in the process in mid-May. "When there's a lack of communication in any relationship, where it's a business or personal relationship, lack of communication leads to animosity, and that leaves my narrative only to me with no clear direction," Hendrickson said May 13 when asked about whether he wants to remain with the Bengals. Hendrickson had 17.5 sacks in each of the past two seasons with that output being the best in the league in 2024. He has 57 total sacks in his four seasons with Cincinnati and has made the Pro Bowl on each occasion. Overall, Hendrickson has 77 career sacks in 110 games (81 starts), divided equally between the New Orleans Saints (2017-20) and Bengals. Bengals rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart also is in a dispute with the team over the language in his contract. --Field Level Media

NFL fans spot concerning detail in Aaron Rodgers' Steelers team photo

Aaron Rodgers pulled on a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey for the first time this week - but fans were quick to spot one bizarre detail in his profile photo for the team. The legendary quarterback signed with Pittsburgh last week to finally bring his NFL limbo to an end three months after he was released by the New York Jets. After he put pen to paper on his one-year Steelers contract, which is worth $13.65million, Rodgers was seen going through the gears with his new teammates in mandatory minicamp as he looks towards his 21st season as a professional. He also posed in the team's famous black-and-gold jersey as he capture his official team portrait, which the Steelers shared on social media. However, NFL fans quickly noticed something very unusual about Rodgers' left eye in the snap. 'Bro why is one eye drifting off to the side,' one user questioned. Rodgers finally signed with Pittsburgh last week to bring his lengthy NFL limbo to an end Another asked: 'what's wrong with his eye?' 'That one eye look like it's been knocked loose a few times,' said a third. While one simply put: 'This is odd'. Back in 2016, Rodgers admitted he once lost vision in his left eye after suffering a concussion early on in his Green Bay Packers career. 'I had a bizarre metallic - one eye went metallic,' he said in an interview on Bill Simmons' show Any Given Wednesday. 'I could only see out of my right eye. 'I got hit. We were playing Washington. I got hit by like three guys on a blitz. London Fletcher came around and he was one of three guys that kind of hit me. Side of the head... Yeah. 'It went out, it was just metallic. It was like a silver metallic in the left side.' It is unclear if that concussion had any lasting effect on Rodgers' left eye and caused the unusual detail fans spotted in his Steelers photo. At his Pittsburgh unveiling, Rodgers stunned the world when he made the bombshell announcement that he secretly got married earlier this year. The four-time MVP was speaking to reporters when he made the big reveal, following weeks of speculation.
