TNCSC delays Rs 600 crore paddy procurement payment to favour private entity: Farmers
MADURAI: Tamil Nadu Farmers Association president P R Pandian on Thursday said the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) has not paid the farmers yet for procuring Rs 600-crore-worth paddy two months ago. He accused Minister for Food and Civil Supplies R Sakkarapani of acting in favour of Arisi Koottamaippu — a private company through which the TNCSC has been procuring commodities from farmers in eight southern districts, except Madurai.
During a press briefing in Madurai on Thursday, Pandian said the association would stage a black-flag protest against the minister, who has been deputed by the DMK to carry out election-related works in the region, unless the TNCSC pays the pending amount to the farmers in 10 days. 'Instead of making efforts to pay the farmers, Minister Sakkarapani allegedly attempted to safeguard the Arisi Kuttamaippu, which is owned by one Amrudeen Sheik Dawood,' he claimed.
Further, Pandian said the TNCSC, which has been directly procuring paddy from the farmers since 1975, signed an agreement with said private company after the DMK came to power. As per policy, farmers must be paid within 48 hours of procurement, however, they have not been paid even after two months, he added.
Responding to the allegations, Minister R Sakkarapani refused to make any comments to TNIE, saying he was unaware of Pandian's speech.

The BJP MP told the commission that the three barrages – Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla were constructed only after the approval of CWC and Technical Committee and as per the recommendations of Cabinet Sub Committee headed by the then Irrigation minister T Harish Rao. The construction of the three barrages was started after the cabinet gave its nod. He informed that after Maharashtra objected, the then CM KCR formed a sub-committee. Harish Rao was the chairman of the sub-committee, and himself and Tummala Nageswara Rao were members. The redesign was done as per the decision of the expert committee, technical committee and sub-committee. The technical committee gave many reports. Finally, the cabinet took the decision to build the three barrages. Rajendar clarified that he was not aware of the payment of Rs 59 crore to an agency for the preparation of DPR. The cabinet gave all approvals on Kaleshwaram and Corporation was also floated to raise funds for project construction. The previous government planned to borrow funds from the corporation and repay the loans. But, the funds were not collected by the corporation. However, all the funds for the project were released from the corporation and the role of the Finance department was nothing in the entire episode. The former Finance minister also said that the irrigation department was given the powers to borrow and pay the funds.

Security forces eliminate top Maoist leader with reward of Rs 45 Lakh
As part of the ongoing anti-Naxal operation in the National Park area of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh, security forces have recovered the body of an high-ranking Maoist leader, who was killed during an encounter. This includes a bounty of Rs 25 lakh in Chhattisgarh and Rs 20 lakhs in Telangana. Lift ban on issue of arms licences: BJP MLA to CM
First-time BJP MLA from the Kalapipal seat of Shajapur district, Ghanshyam Chandravanshi, has written to CM Mohan Yadav, urging him to lift the ban on the issuance of new arms licences in the state.
