Tony Mowbray sacked in his second spell as West Brom Head Coach

ITV News21-04-2025

West Bromwich Albion Head Coach Tony Mowbray has been sacked in his second spell in charge at the club.
The 61-year-old was dismissed after the Baggies' 3-1 home defeat to relegation-threatened Derby County.
The loss pretty much ends the club's hopes of making the Championship play-offs.
Mowbray returned to the Hawthorns in January, after Carlos Corberán announced he was leaving the club after a two-year stint, to return to Spain.
"Tony and Mark will forever be welcome at The Hawthorns"
In a statement the club said:
"West Bromwich Albion have today parted company with Head Coach Tony Mowbray.
"Assistant Head Coach Mark Venus has also departed the club.
"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Tony and Mark for their efforts – but has made the decision to part company following a series of poor results.
"Tony and Mark will forever be welcome at The Hawthorns and their contributions to the club winning the 2007/08 Sky Bet Championship title will never be forgotten.
"Everyone at Albion wishes Tony and Mark all the very best in the future.
"James Morrison will oversee first-team affairs on an interim basis, assisted by Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill.
"The process of recruiting a new Head Coach is now under way".
Mowbray took the club to promotion in 2008 the last time he was at the Hawthorns, before they got relegated.
He's no stranger to managing other clubs in the Midlands, having previously coached Coventry City and Birmingham City.

Hearts legend Robertson returns to dugout as Ross County back Cowie

The Tynecastle record league goal scorer has been drafted in by Dingwall chiefs to support Don Cowie for their first season back in the Championship after relegation. County dropped out of the Scottish Premiership after the play-off final defeat to Livingston but bosses will stand by Cowie next season. Carl Tremarco and Paul Cowie will leave the club in the summer with Robertson joining as No2 to Cowie to help push for an immediate return to the top-flight. Robertson previously worked with Don and has experience coaching in the Championship, he was most recently manager of Inverness between 2017 and 2021 and served as interim in 2023. Chief executive officer Steve Ferguson said: "Everyone at the club is determined to put us in the best position possible to gain promotion back into the Premiership - and to do so within a season. "Bringing John in to support Don, will allow us to reshape the playing squad and turn things around as quickly as possible' Read more: A club statement read: "Last week's result against Livingston - resulting in us playing in the Championship next season - has left everyone at the club, personally and collectively, hugely disappointed. We know how much playing Premiership football matters to our community, and we share their deep frustration at how the season concluded. "As you might imagine, we have done a lot of soul searching at the club over the last week, and following that, have decided to restructure our football management team under Don Cowie as we make gaining immediate promotion our sole focus. "We believe strongly that we have a dedicated and talented manager in Don and that he is the right man to lead us for the season ahead. "To support Don, we have appointed the experienced John Robertson as assistant manager with immediate effect. Carl Tremarco and Paul Cowie will leave the club, and we thank them for their efforts and wish them well for the future. "John has more than 400 games under his belt as a manager, knows the challenge of recruiting from our base in the Highlands, has experience of the Scottish Championship, and has worked with Don in the past. He already knows the club well and has spent much of last season watching from the sidelines in his role as a BBC pundit."

After steering the Staggies to safety via the play-offs, the former Scotland international landed the role on a permanent basis. However, County once again fell into the play-offs and this time it proved to be their downfall. They were dumped 5-3 on aggregate by Championship runners-up Livingston and had their six-year top flight stay brought to an end. Despite going down, County are sticking with Cowie as boss. But change is coming at the Global Energy Stadium. Cowie's assistant Carl Tremarco has left the club and so too has first team coach Paul Cowie. The latter's exit will no doubt sting a little more for boss Don, with Paul being his brother. Paul Cowie left his role as Dundee United's academy manager to take the assistant role at Ross County. But less than a year later, he's out of the job. Shocking moment yobs brawl in Dingwall street before Ross County vs Livingston play-off clash With Tremarco and Cowie having left, the Staggies have brought in John Robertson as the club's new assistant manager. The 60-year old returns to the club having previously had a short stint as Ross County manager back in 2005. He was only in charge for four months before leaving by mutual consent in September that year. Hearts legend Robertson more famously had two spells in charge of Highland rivals Inverness CT, between 2002 and 2004 and then again from 2017 until 2021. A Ross County statement read: "Last week's result against Livingston - resulting in us playing in the Championship next season - has left everyone at the club, personally and collectively, hugely disappointed.
