Instant Reactions: Alabama survives upset scare, defeats Robert Morris in first round
The Alabama Crimson Tide were back in action Friday afternoon, taking on the Robert Morris Colonials in the first round of the 2025 men's NCAA Tournament.
A No. 2 vs. No. 15 seed matchup in the East Region, this game however did not necessarily play out as many might have expected, with this first round matchup close throughout the second half. However, Alabama would eventually pull away late in the second half, advancing to the round of 32 with a 90-81 victory over the Colonials.
A game in which the Crimson Tide were certainly tested, and even trailed at one point in the second half, here are some instant reactions to Alabama's victory over Robert Morris in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Alabama's Clifford Omoruyi, Mouhamed Dioubate were difference makers
Especially during the first half, Alabama center Clifford Omoruyi was a true difference maker in this contest. Omoruyi had 15 points on a perfect 7-of-7 shooting in the first half alone, and finished with 17 points, while Mouhamed Dioubate was also stellar finishing with a double-double at 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Alabama struggles on offensive glass
The nation's top rebounding team was dominated on the offensive glass by Robert Morris a combined 16-5. Alabama also lost the rebounding battle overall to the Colonials, 39-37, something that will have to improve going forward.
Grant Nelson plays, makes impact for Alabama
In the midst of second half struggles, Grant Nelson did in fact enter Friday's game around the 8:47 mark for the Crimson Tide, and certainly provided a spark for Alabama when struggling. Nelson finished with five points, three rebounds, and one steal on 2-of-3 shooting.
Mark Sears helps ice game at free throw line
Alabama guard Mark Sears was big in closing this game for Alabama, especially at the free throw line where he went a combined 11-of-13 during the game. Sears also finished with 22 points, five rebounds, and 10 assists.
Alabama to play winner of Saint Mary's vs. Vanderbilt in second round
With this win over Robert Morris, Alabama advances to the second round where they will face either Saint Mary's or Vanderbilt in the round of 32. Those two teams will play at 3:15 p.m. ET on Friday, with the winner moving on to face Alabama on Sunday.

Connor McDavid could not get his team on track, and Edmonton took 15 minors - led by Evander Kane's three plus a misconduct to add up to 85 penalty minutes - including a brawl that ensued with less than 10 minutes left. Trent Frederic and Darnell Nurse, who fought Jonah Gadjovich, got misconducts that knocked them out of a game with an outcome determined long before. After the final looked as evenly matched as can be with Games 1 and 2 each needing extra time, overtime and then double OT, Game 3 was a lopsided mismatch. The Oilers came unglued to the point Jake Walman resorted to squirting water on Panthers players on their bench from his spot on the visiting side. The teams have some extra time off before Game 4 on Thursday night, when the Panthers have the chance to take a 3-1 lead and move to the verge of going back to back.

With Stevenson likely gone in 2026, North Carolina needs an answer at catcher.
