5 intriguing U.S. Open qualifiers, including a full-time dentist
U.S. Open qualifying for the 2025 major at Oakmont is over, and some big names fell short while others succeeded on Golf's Longest Day.
Unfortunately, Max Homa won't be on this list after he caddied for himself and fell short in a playoff at a course in Ohio. But you will see a familiar name or two on this list and maybe some you may not know so well, and that includes ... a dentist!
We'll get into that. Here's a look at the big names and the not-so-known golfers who will be teeing it up at Oakmont in just over a week and try to win the biggest test on the PGA Tour with its high rough, fast greens and tough conditions:
Cameron Young
It was Young who emerged victorious from Ohio in a playoff that included Homa and Rickie Fowler.
Erik van Rooyen
He played great at Kinsale in Ohio and will get in. Assuming all goes well at the Canadian Open, he might qualify simply by staying in the top 60 in the world.
Mason Howell
The 17-year-old (!!) high school junior (!!!!) qualified, so that should be fun for him.
Marc Leishman
The LIV golfer is in, along with Carlos Ortiz.
Matt Vogt
Say hello to the man who is a dentist full time in Indiana and who qualified on Monday. He shot an 8-under in Walla Walla, Washington at Wine Valley Golf Club to win a spot.
What's more fun? He was a caddie at Oakmont.
