How the hours in between are tackled and the nature of the topics that are debated depend on the purpose laid out for the formation of the collective in the first place.
Family groups, for instance, are a collection of antonyms in human form. There are the elderly patriarchs and matriarchs of the dynasty who just can't get enough of the power they can continue to wield in their twilight years with a mere click of a finger, and periodically forward mind-numbing jokes. Then there are those eternally-in-pilgrimage mode aunties who consider their spiritual and religious posts as the gospel of salvation for the kin. The freshly settled ones bombard the group with photographs of their new car from every angle, the Bali holiday, and that handshake of appreciation from the big boss in the office headquarters. The already settled down and worn out ones, drudging towards retirement consistently share snapshots of the calories they have burned and the steps they have walked per day, as if life's every moment has to be measured to be meaningful. Amidst all this, the younger lot of cousins form their own groups to giggle at all this and to make their own travel plans together.

Teacher, technician fined RM5,000 each for attempted adultery
MELAKA: A female teacher and a male wiring technician were each fined the maximum amount of RM5,000 by the Melaka Syariah High Court today for attempting to commit adultery. Syariah Judge Mohd Yunus Mohamad Zin imposed the sentence after both accused, aged 31, pleaded guilty to the charge. The pair, who were unrepresented, were also ordered to serve six months' imprisonment in default of payment. Based on the charge, they were found attempting to have illicit sexual relations with someone who is not their lawful spouse under Islamic law, at a house in Sungai Petai, Alor Gajah, around 9 pm on Feb 28. They were charged under Section 52 of the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment (Melaka) 1991, which carries a penalty of up to RM5,000 fine, a maximum of 36 months imprisonment, or both upon conviction. Melaka Syariah Prosecution Department chief prosecutor Atras Mohamad Zin, assisted by Syarie prosecutor Radzwan Abdullah, urged the court to impose the maximum penalty as a deterrent, not only for the two accused but also for the wider Muslim community. In mitigation, the visibly emotional teacher pleaded for a lighter sentence due to financial constraints, saying she is responsible for her four-year-old son and ailing parents. The other accused similarly appealed for leniency, citing difficulties in securing employment and a loss of income following the affair going viral on social media. 'I am willing to take responsibility for her (the woman), and I have also performed solat taubat (repentance prayer),' he said. Previously, the case gained widespread attention on social media when the female teacher publicly apologised amid allegations of an affair with a married man, known online as 'abang wiring'. The matter drew strong public criticism after screenshots of lewd and inappropriate conversations between the pair went viral on WhatsApp.

Man arrested for threatening PM in bid to implicate rival
1 2 Bhagalpur: A 35-year-old man, Sameer Kumar Ranjan of Maheshi village in Bhagalpur district, was arrested on Thursday night for allegedly sending a threat message against PM Narendra Modi via a social media platform, using another man's mobile data in a calculated attempt to implicate him over a property dispute. The threat call was made to the Prime Minister's Office. The alert was triggered on Thursday, coinciding with the PM's two-day visit to Bihar, during which he participated in a roadshow in Patna and a public meeting in Bikramganj. Intelligence agencies including the NIA, IB and Bhagalpur police were placed on high alert. Bhagalpur SSP Hriday Kant formed a special investigation team (SIT) led by DSP (law and order) Chandra Bhushan and including officials from the DIU, CIAT and Sultanganj police. The team began a discreet probe to trace the origin of the message. SSP Hriday Kant said a detailed technical analysis led the SIT to a mobile number registered to a septuagenarian, Mantu Chowdhary of Maheshi village. "He said he is illiterate and uses only a basic keypad phone. He claimed Sameer had trapped him," said the SSP. "The accused remains in custody at Sultanganj police station under tight security," the SSP said, adding that technical teams will analyse data from the seized cellphone. An expert said VPNs encrypt data and mask IP addresses, making such threats traceable only through in-depth forensic analysis.
