Obi Toppin, Isaiah Hartenstein hit with technicals after scuffle in tense NBA Finals moment

New York Posta day ago

Emotions got high between two former Knicks on Friday night.
Obi Toppin and Isaiah Hartenstein got into it during the Thunder's 111-104 Game 4 win in the NBA Finals after Toppin committed a hard foul on Oklahoma City guard Alex Caruso.
Toppin, 27, received a flagrant 1 after stiff-arming Caruso to the ground while the 31-year-old was driving in for a layup midway through the second quarter.

Hartenstein, 27, rushed over to confront Toppin shortly after the play, with the pair having to be held back by referees after the Brooklyn native shoved the Thunder center.
After the officials eventually broke up the altercation, both Toppin and Hartenstein were issued technicals following a review.

Toppin, who was drafted by the Knicks with the No. 8 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, was dealt to Indiana for two future second-round picks ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Both were teammates on the Knicks during the 2022-23 season during Hartenstein's first of two seasons with the team.
The Knicks ultimately let Hartenstein walk during last year's free agency, when he signed a three-year deal worth $87 million with the Thunder, a contract that he believed ended up working out for both sides.

'It was smart,' Hartenstein said before a game between the Knicks and Thunder in January. 'I think it was for both parties, it was perfect. I'm in a situation here where it's going really good. They got a great center, one of the best centers in the league.
'So I think for both parties it was perfect. Knowing Leon Rose, he'll always find something. He's been doing a great job, so he made the right adjustment.'
Despite the Knicks only offering Hartenstein a four-year contract worth $72 million, the big man insisted that he did not leave solely for the money.

'I think I'm getting the ball a little bit more now. In the league, you just have to find your roles and every situation your role is different,' he said. 'Kind of New York it was [different]. My usage went up more at the end, but I was just trying to figure out a role and that was playing defense, rebounding, getting Jalen [Brunson] open, getting other guys open looks.
'And so I think you just have to adjust to the role. Here, the role is getting the ball a little bit more.'
Hartenstein finished the win with two points, two assists and six rebounds as the Thunder tied up the series at two games apiece.
Toppin dropped in 17 points with seven assists in the Indiana loss.
Game 5 will be held in Oklahoma City on Monday night.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Ends Trade Speculation, Wants To Reach NBA Finals With Bucks

Giannis Antetokounmpo Ends Trade Speculation, Wants To Reach NBA Finals With Bucks originally appeared on Fadeaway World. After months of swirling trade speculation and headline-grabbing rumors, Giannis Antetokounmpo has finally spoken, and his message is loud and clear. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar wants to stay and lead his team back to the NBA Finals. Advertisement While spending time in Brazil, where a dunk attempt gone hilariously wrong went viral on social media, Giannis sat down with Brazilian outlet Coast to Coast. But the most impactful moment wasn't the slip, it was the statement. When asked about the 2025 NBA Finals, Giannis said: 'There are two great teams that got there. Indiana, with my friend Pascal Siakam, is reaping the rewards, and OKC simply has the MVP. I'm rooting for good basketball. The Finals are different,I hope to be back soon with the Bucks.' That line, effectively poured cold water on months of red-hot speculation that he might force his way out of Milwaukee. Over the past few months, Giannis had been linked to nearly every contending team with trade assets and cap space. The Toronto Raptors reportedly had 'mutual interest' with the Greek Freak, with insiders floating a blockbuster four-team, 14-player mega deal centered around him. Advertisement The Houston Rockets were another suitor, eyeing a dream pairing of Giannis and Kevin Durant. The New York Knicks, fresh off an Eastern Conference Finals run, were rumored to be preparing a 'tsunami offer' if Milwaukee ever opened trade talks. Even the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets entered the conversation. Boston's pursuit has been clouded by Jayson Tatum's injury, while the Nets have up to $80 million in cap space and four first-round picks in the 2025 draft, making them a dangerous dark horse. These rumors were largely fueled by reports that, for the first time in his career, Giannis was 'open to looking outside of Milwaukee.' His repeated first-round exits, three straight, and a revolving door of coaches and supporting pieces had many believing that the 2021 Finals MVP might be done waiting. Advertisement However, his latest comments suggest otherwise. Not only is Giannis reaffirming his loyalty to the Bucks, but he's publicly setting a goal: return to the Finals. Still, talk is cheap and even Giannis knows it. For this commitment to hold weight, the Bucks must get serious about upgrading their roster. They need to add scoring depth, shore up their aging core, and give Giannis a co-star who can shoulder the burden late in games, as Damian Lillard is ruled out for the year. If Milwaukee falters again next season, the pressure to trade their franchise cornerstone will return tenfold. For now, though, the message from Brazil is clear: Giannis is not done in Milwaukee. Not yet. He wants to run it back, reach the Finals, and win another title with the only franchise he's ever known. Three Unique Trade Packages The Knicks Can Offer For Kevin Durant

Three Unique Trade Packages The Knicks Can Offer For Kevin Durant originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The NBA offseason has already begun for 28 of the NBA's 30 teams, and things are expected to get busy when the Finals conclude later this month. For the Knicks, this summer offers a chance to build on their 2025 Finals run and make improvements that will maximize their title odds. Advertisement While the free agent market is limited, the Knicks (like many teams) will likely consider their trade options to add another star next to Jalen Brunson. Their resources are somewhat limited, but they have enough to get involved in negotiations for several big-name players, like Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns. A recent report reveals the Knicks tried to trade for the 2x champion at February's deadline. "There's going to be some level of change for this Knicks roster," said Shams Charania. "On Kevin Durant, I will say this: There was mutual interest between Kevin Durant and the Knicks at the deadline. The Knicks made an offer for Durant, but there was no trade." Following a disappointing season, the Suns are on the verge of a major overhaul, and Durant's place on the team is no longer guaranteed. At 36 years old, his timeline doesn't line up with Devin Booker's, and franchise owner Mat Ishbia is more inclined to trade him than run it back with the team that finished 36 games in the West. As a big market team that's looking for a star, the Knicks would be an ideal landing spot for Durant, and it's no surprise that he has an interest in joining one of the NBA's most popular and notorious franchises. The question is, what would a potential trade look like? Here are three potential packages that could work for Durant. Trade Package No. 1 Proposed Trade Details Knicks Receive: Kevin Durant, 2026 second-round pick, 2031 second-round pick (via Rockets) Suns Receive: Karl-Anthony Towns With this deal, the Suns and Knicks would do a straight one-to-one swap between Durant and Towns (besides a few second-round picks to sweeten the deal). Since their contracts are similar in structure, the trade could happen without any extra steps, simplifying the process for both teams. Advertisement On New York's end, losing Towns would be tough, especially given all that they gave up (Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, a future first-round pick) to acquire him last summer. With averages of 24.4 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game this season, he fulfilled his role, but critics are split on whether he's the right fit for this particular group. If the Knicks lose faith in Towns, what better way to unload his contract than in a deal for a proven winner and champion like Kevin Durant? Meanwhile, the Suns would get to pair Devin Booker with his fellow Kentucky star, Karl-Anthony Towns, to form an effective two-man tandem. Trade Package No. 2 Proposed Trade Details Knicks Receive: Kevin Durant Suns Receive: Mikal Bridges, Mitchell Robinson, Miles McBride For any other rebuilding team, they'd want young players and draft picks to build up their future. With Devin Booker on the team, however, the Suns intend to stay competitive, and that means finding a trade that will help them win now. Advertisement The Knicks will not give up Jalen Brunson in a deal, but they could offer a package of players that will help the Suns replenish some of their depth. For Kevin, a deal that includes Mikal Bridges, Mitchell Robinson, and Miles McBride could get the job done, and it's one of the few Durant trades that match up financially. As a premier two-way swingman, the Suns would be ecstatic to have Bridges back, and he might help them regain their status and prestige in the West. Along with defensive bug man Mitchell Robinson and Miles McBride, the Suns would have a much deeper rotation with greater defensive versatility than they ever had with Durant. Trade Package No. 3 Proposed Trade Details Knicks Receive: Kevin Durant Suns Receive: OG Anunoby, Miles McBride, 2026 first-round pick (via Wizards) The Knicks only have one first-round pick to trade, but they won't be needing it anytime soon as a team devoted to winning now. If they use the pick and package it in a deal with OG Anunoby and Miles McBride, it might just be enticing enough for the Suns to accept. Advertisement More than anything, Phoenix wants to find a younger player who can make life easier for Devin Booker. As a defensive-minded forward with shooting and rebounding abilities, Anunoby can certainly fill that role for the Suns, and he fits their timeline at 27 years old. The best part of this deal for the Knicks is that they get to add Durant without giving up Bridges or Karl-Anthony Towns. While they'd lose some depth and draft capital in the deal, it might be worth the sacrifice if they build a borderline superteam next season with three All-Star-level players on the roster. With so many variables, it's impossible to say for sure how things will play out this summer, but the Knicks are sure to do something after an encouraging playoff run. With Jalen Brunson, they have a point guard they can trust and a closer to secure wins in tight games. But to reach another level of greatness, the Knicks will need a bucket-getter like Kevin Durant to carry them where they haven't been in over 50 years. NBA Insider Says Kevin Durant To Knicks Trade Will Be "Complicated" Amid Major Giannis Antetokounmpo Update

NBA Insider Says Kevin Durant To Knicks Trade Will Be "Complicated" Amid Major Giannis Antetokounmpo Update originally appeared on Fadeaway World. After the NBA Playoffs ended for the Bucks, an ESPN report sparked multiple rumors that Giannis Antetokounmpo is expected to be open to considering a trade from the Bucks. Now, another ESPN employee, Brian Windhorst, who is also an NBA insider, puts an end to all the rumors revolving around the Greek superstar in Milwaukee. Advertisement Windhorst appeared on the most recent segment of the 'Get Up' show, where he dropped a massive update on the Bucks superstar's near future. The cast of the 'Get Up' show on ESPN deliberated upon the influence of a Giannis Antetokounmpo or a Kevin Durant trade on the Knicks if they choose to move for either of these players. Windhorst jumped in to quickly drop a massive update on the potential Knicks trade for both superstars. 'There's not going to be a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade in the short-term future. The league has come to terms with the realization that the Bucks are going to keep him and Giannis is not going to ask for a trade. I can't speak to what might happen in August. They can't pin any coaching decision on Giannis Antetokounmpo and they probably shouldn't plan to do it on Kevin Durant either, because I don't think they're in the best position to trade for him. I think you should remove those two options, remove those two as any indications on how they might approach their [head coach hiring].' 'I am saying Giannis Antetokounmpo is not getting traded before the Knicks are hiring a coach. So you can't pin the coach to what you may do when a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade [happens] and I think a Kevin Durant trade is going to be very complicated for the Knicks. I do not think that you can make your decision based on the acquisition of one of these star players,' Windhorst further added. ' What Does This Mean For Giannis Antetokounmpo And Kevin Durant? While the Knicks were rumored to be among the mix to trade for Kevin Durant or Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, Windhorst believes that either of those trades could be messy for New York, and one of them will likely not happen at all [Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Knicks]. While the Knicks can trade for Kevin Durant, Windhorst discourages it as he feels they may have to give up too much to get him. Advertisement The Antetokounmpo update makes it clear that one of the biggest pieces of news we will hear first after the end of this season is where Kevin Durant will land next. Multiple reports have suggested that Durant is essentially standing on top of a sinking ship in the Suns and will look to jump ship as soon as he gets the green light. Some sources even claimed that a trade for him may have already been agreed in principle. With Antetokounmpo now presumably locked into the Bucks for the near future, Durant will likely be the biggest name in the trade market this season. But for the Knicks, bringing Durant on board could be a complicated task. They first need to resolve their head coaching role vacancy before entering the trade market for a superstar.
