'Ajith Kumar is one of the most wonderful people we have in our business'; Rahul Dev recalls how he cooked for people on the set of 'Good Bad Ugly'
Rahul Dev
recently opened up about his early days in the industry and how he kept receiving negative roles after debuting as a villain in 'Champion'. The actor also shared his experience working with
Ajith Kumar
, describing how humble he is as a person.
Rahul about getting negative roles
In an interview with The Indian Express, Dev revealed that he entered the industry without any lofty ambitions. He simply wanted to work and had no film background, as his family was not connected to the movie industry. 'I'm a random Delhi guy. Many a time, I've felt that I haven't found my footing or had my big break. Unfortunately, it's a mainstream commercial world. In real life, for instance, no two people would fight in the street with their shirts off,' he added.
Ajith Kumar receives Padma Bhushan honor
He admitted to being typecast in the industry: 'There was a typecast because my first negative role was successful. All I was getting were negative roles. It was difficult to navigate and say no. It can leave you feeling creatively empty. It's the industry that typecasts you, not the audience, because people haven't seen you in any other role.'
Working experience with Ajith Kumar
He went on to play similar characters in South Indian films like Simhadri, Mass, Billa, Aathi, and two projects with Ajith Kumar — 'Vedalam' and 'Good Bad Ugly'.

'He is easily one of the most wonderful people we have in our business—not just in Tamil cinema, but across India. He is very helpful,' he said, showering praise on Ajith.
Rahul recalled a heartfelt moment when Ajith comforted a grieving couple on set. The duo, who had come to visit, were in deep pain as they had lost their son. The 'Mankatha' actor took time to console them. He further shared that during night shoots in Kolkata, Ajith personally cooked meals like upma and idlis for the entire crew of 70–80 people, handling everything himself—from chopping onions to preparing the dishes.
Rahul also fondly remembered Ajith's warm hospitality during their first meeting and how he brought large tiffin boxes filled with home-cooked food for him.

Thug Life audience review: Fans didn't like Kamal Haasan's 'never-ending monologues but hail ‘top-notch cinema'
Tamil cinema legends Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam have reunited after 38 years for the much-anticipated film Thug Life, which released in theatres today (5 June). The film has generated a wave of excitement among fans, with many rushing to catch the first show. While the collaboration between the iconic duo drew huge expectations, early audience reactions appear to be mixed. Some fans have praised the performances, particularly those of Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR (Simbu), and the rest of the ensemble cast including Abhirami, Trisha, and Joju. AR Rahman's music has also received appreciation. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, 'Mani Ratnam's making still holds class, & Rahman's music is solid. Performance from Kamal, STR, Abhirami, Trisha, Joju & others are top-notch. But the story is predictable & flat screenplay. Zero engaging moments throughout. Massive expectations… TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT.' Another commented, '#Thuglife – BELOW AVERAGE ONE. Finally Mani Thatha also back stabbed. An average first half with a good for nothing second half. Totally execution of old wine in the old pot. Never expected such a disappointment!! TOTALLY: ONE TIME WATCHABLE 2/5.' A third review read, '#ThugLife had potential but ends up dragging. Kamal Haasan delivers a solid performance, but his never-ending monologues wear you down. Simbu handles his part well, but even that can't rescue the sluggish, flat second half. The trademark Mani Ratnam spark? Nowhere to be found.' A huge fan of Mani Rathnam seems to have been disappointed a big time. He wrote, "Major disappointment! Couldn't even sit through the whole film. The second half turns into a flat, lifeless revenge saga. #STR feels completely dummy in the 2nd half. None of the supporting characters leave any impact. Total disappointment from #Manirathnam.""Very average, super flat, predictable, no story, no innovation from #mani Saar, #KamalHaasan is not vinveli nayagan he is Saga nayagan, how much ever you shot he won't be dead. Lot of scope all wasted. As usual all songs by #arrahman are wasted #thuglife over hype," wrote another social media user. Thug Life is a Tamil-language gangster action thriller featuring big names such as Mani Ratnam, Trisha Krishnan, Silambarasan TR, and Aishwarya Lekshmi in key roles. The film is a joint production by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies. The return of the iconic Nayakan duo had already created a buzz, with fans eagerly hoping for a gripping story and Mani Ratnam's signature directorial style adding to the excitement. The film's trailer, A.R. Rahman's music, and a major promotional campaign helped build strong pre-release hype.
