'Hard to envisage me not being back at Rangers'

Yahoo6 days ago

Former Rangers midfielder Steven Davis says it is "hard to envisage himself not being back at the club in some capacity in the future" amid speculation linking him with a backroom role with the Scottish Premiership giants.
The 140-times capped Northern Ireland international has been mooted as part of a potential coaching ticket should former title-winning manager Steven Gerrard return for a second spell in charge of the club.
Gerrard has been one of a number of possible contenders linked with the vacancy at Rangers in recent weeks, although it is reported that Davide Ancelotti has held talks with the Ibrox club, with further discussions planned over the next few days.
Davis had two spells at the club as player, making a total of 239 appearances.
The 40-year-old was put in temporary control of first-team affairs following the departure of former manager Michael Beale in October 2023.
He was caretaker boss for two games, a Europa League defeat by Aris Limassol and a league win over St Mirren, before Philippe Clement was appointed to the position on a permanent basis.
"At this moment in time it's only rumours. I haven't heard anything else," said Davis of speculation linking him with a coaching role under a new Rangers boss.
"Obviously the club are going through the process in terms of who they are going to appoint as manager.
"If the opportunity comes up it's obviously a club that's obviously very close to my heart, so let's see what happens in the next few weeks."
Davis, currently part of Michael O'Neill's backroom team with Northern Ireland, would welcome a return to the club he holds in great affection at some stage.
"For me it's hard to envisage me not being back at the club in some capacity in the future whatever that may be, but you just don't know in football," he added in an interview with BBC Sport NI.
"You can't sort of plan that, you just have to wait for the opportunities and then once you have a decision to make then you make the decision.
"Ultimately I want Rangers to be successful, they had another difficult season, but hopefully they can get back to winning trophies next season."

Opelika City School district names new superintendent

COLUMBUS, Ga. () — The Opelika City Schools Board of Education announced yesterday Dr. Kevin Davis as the district's next superintendent. Dr. Davis currently serves as principal of Muscle Shoals High School in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and brings more than 20 years of experience in public education. Throughout his career, he served as a coach, teacher, assistant principal, athletic director, and principal. Davis was also named the CLAS District 7A North High School Principal of the Year. 'I appreciate the trust and confidence of the Opelika Board of Education,' Dr. Davis said. 'I am honored to join this outstanding team, and I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work as we continue to strive toward our shared mission: educating every child, every day.' The district says community members consistently expressed that Davis shares genuine care and concern for all of his students. 'Dr. Davis has an outstanding record of success as a leader in education, and we are excited to welcome him as the next superintendent of Opelika City Schools,' said Dr. Kevin Royal, Chairman of the Opelika City Schools Board of Education. The Opelika City Schools Board of Education will announce details for a community meet and greet in the coming weeks to formally introduce Dr. Davis. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Seth Davis spoke out on CBS colleague Jay Wright's interest in Knicks opening

Seth Davis spoke out on CBS colleague Jay Wright's interest in Knicks opening The Knicks made the surprising move to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau on Tuesday despite leading New York to its first Eastern Conference Finals in 25 years. And right away, former Villanova head coach Jay Wright's name popped up as a possible replacement. Well, fans shouldn't expect Wright to join his former players Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges in New York — at least according to fellow CBS Sports college basketball analyst Seth Davis. Shortly after the news of Thibodeau's firing broke, Davis took to Twitter/X to throw water on the Knicks rumors on Wright's behalf. Davis joked that if the Knicks wanted to find a CBS personality who would say yes to the job, it would be ... Davis. While it would make sense for the Knicks to at least inquire about Wright's interest, it should come as no surprise that Wright would pass on the opportunity. He's 63 years old and seems to be enjoying himself in a low-stress, high-paying gig at CBS. Plus, would Wright really want to jeopardize his legacy and relationship with Brunson, Hart and Bridges if things went poorly in New York? There's no upside in taking that job considering his age and lack of NBA experience. If anything, Davis knows exactly where Wright stands on the matter. We should take that as a definitive no.

Gabe Davis meeting with Steelers after Giants visit in free agency twist

Gabe Davis' free agency tour now includes a stop in Pittsburgh. The former Jaguars wide receiver will meet with the Steelers on Thursday following a visit with the Giants last month, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday. Davis, 26, would help bolster Pittsburgh's receiving corps after the team traded star wideout George Pickens to the Cowboys in an early-May blockbuster. Advertisement 3 Gabe Davis was released by the Jaguars in May 2025. AP As it stands, the Steelers' depth chart at wide receiver includes two-time Pro-Bowler D.K. Metcalf, Robert Woods and Calvin Austin III, with Pat Freiermuth at tight end. The Steelers had eyed Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith and engaged in trade talks with the team late last week. However, Schefter reported Tuesday the team is 'not expected to trade for' Smith, who is seeking a new deal. Advertisement A fourth-round pick by the Bills in 2020, Davis spent four seasons in Buffalo before signing a three-year, $39 million deal with the Jaguars last March in free agency. He hauled in just 20 catches for 239 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games before he suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee. The Jaguars shut him down for the season in November. Jacksonville released Davis last month. 3 Gabe Davis (13) spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Bills. USA TODAY Sports Advertisement The Giants have been viewed as a potential option for Davis, given his familiarity with head coach Brian Daboll as the two worked together in Buffalo when Daboll was the Bills' offensive coordinator. In his final season in Buffalo, Davis had 45 catches for 746 yards and seven touchdowns. Should the Steelers emerge as a real possibility for Davis, there's the question of who he'll be catching passes from this season. 3 The Steelers are bringing in Gabe Davis for a visit. AP Advertisement The Steelers' quarterback situation remains in flux, even as Aaron Rodgers has dropped hints about potentially signing with Pittsburgh. The former Jets quarterback remains unsigned as OTAs in Pittsburgh get underway with longtime backup Mason Rudolph taking first-team reps. Rodgers, 41, said in April he was tending to matters in his personal life before deciding on his football future. It remains to be seen if both Davis and Rodgers will be rocking the black and gold next season.
