Scottie Scheffler ties with Woods after defending Memorial Tournament title, won 16th PGA Tour victory
U.S.A: Golf star Scottie Scheffler recently claimed his 16th PGA Tour title and made history by becoming the second player after Tiger Woods to defend his title at the Memorial Tournament.
At Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, the 28-year-old American golfer earned his third victory in just one month, with a two-under-par 70 to end the tournament at 10-under 278. This latest victory at the Memorial Tournament, an event hosted by golf legend and 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus, marks the ninth straight time that Scottie Scheffler has converted a 54-hole lead into a win.
Second place was won by American Ben Griffin, who won last week at Colonial. He was four shots behind Scheffler with a final score of 282 after a round of 73. Moreover, Austria's Sepp Straka won third place at 283, just one stroke ahead of Canada's Nick Taylor.
With this, Scheffler expressed: ' It's always a hard week to play this tournament… I battled really hard over the weekend, and Ben made things interesting down the stretch.'
The athlete added, 'Overall, it was a great week and definitely proud to be shaking Mr. Nicklaus's hand at the end of another good week.' Scheffler's rise
Scheffler's win at the Memorial Tournament is an addition to his remarkable athletic performance so far. Last month, he won his third major title at the PGA Championships, two weeks after winning the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. Since his Byron Nelson Classic win, the golfer has now earned $9,627,000 (A$15 million or S$13 million) in prize money.
Furthermore, Scheffler has become the fourth-fastest player to reach the milestone of having 16 PGA Tour victories in under three and a half years. He trails after golf legends Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. Woods was also known for winning the Memorial Tournament three consecutive years from 1999 to 2001.
With his impressive plays, Scheffler remains a man to beat as the U.S. Open at Oakmont is fast approaching. There, the athlete will aim for his fourth career major title, and his second straight after winning the PGA Championship.
In a social media post made by the PGA Tour, it stated: 'Back-to-back at Jack's Place 🏆🏆
@Scottie.Scheffler joins @TigerWoods as the only consecutive winners @MemorialGolf.'
Netizens expressed their support in the comments section by saying: 'It's nice watching an all time great weekly. I figure this is what Tiger fans felt like in the 2000s,' 'These last three years have been the best golf that's ever been played by someone,' 'NO ONE can beat this man right now,' 'He will be one of the best golfer ever…nice person as well 👏👏,' and 'Best golfer of our generation.'
In another social media post by The Memorial Tournament, it shared photos of Scheffler holding the trophy and declared: 'Back to Back.'
A netizen commented on this post and remarked: 'Nice to see someone return to greatness, it's been a long time since Tiger.'

Actor Michael J Fox appeals for help finding lost Back To The Future guitar
Michael J Fox and other stars of classic film Back To The Future appealed for the public's help on Tuesday (Jun 3) in locating the red Gibson guitar featured in a memorable scene. Marty McFly, the time-travelling teen portrayed by Fox in the 1985 film, stunned students at a 1950s high school dance with wild electric guitar riffs played on a Gibson ES-345 Cherry Red guitar in the movie. The guitar went missing after production wrapped. "It's somewhere lost in the space-time continuum, or it's in some Teamster's garage," Fox joked in a video released by Gibson. Co-stars Lea Thompson, Christopher Lloyd and Harry Waters Jr also urged the public to join the search, as did singer Huey Lewis, whose song The Power Of Love was featured in the movie. Gibson is filming a documentary called Lost To The Future about the search for the guitar. It also plans to re-issue the ES-345 Cherry Red in October.

Higher metals tariffs kick in as deadline for 'best' offers arrives
The US tariff rate on most imported steel and aluminium will double on Wednesday (Jun 4) as President Donald Trump ratchets up a global trade war on the same day he expects trading partners to deliver their "best offer" in bids to avoid punishing import tax rates on other goods from taking effect in early July. Trump late on Tuesday signed an executive proclamation that puts into effect from Wednesday his surprise announcement last week that he was taking the tariffs on steel and aluminium imports that had been in place since March to 50 per cent from 25 per cent. "We started at 25 and then after studying the data more, realised that it was a big help, but more help is needed. And so that is why the 50 is starting tomorrow," White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said in explaining the move at a steel industry conference in Washington on Tuesday. The increase comes into effect at 12.01am (12.01pm Singapore time). The increase applies to all trading partners except Britain, the only country so far that has struck a preliminary trade agreement with the US during a 90-day pause on a wider array of Trump tariffs. The rate for steel and aluminium imports from the UK - which does not rank among the top exporters of either metal to the US - will remain at 25 per cent until at least Jul 9. About a quarter of all steel used in the US is imported, and Census Bureau data shows the increased levies will hit the closest US trading partners - Canada and Mexico - especially hard. They rank No 1 and 3, respectively, in steel shipment volumes to the US. Canada is even more exposed to the aluminium levies as the top exporter to the US by far at roughly twice the rest of the top 10 exporters' volumes combined. The US gets about half of its aluminium from foreign sources. The unexpected increase in the levies jolted the market for both metals this week, especially for aluminium, which has seen price premiums more than double so far this year. With little current capacity to increase domestic production, import volumes are likely to be unaffected unless the price increases undercut demand. "BEST OFFER" DUE DATE Wednesday is also when the White House would like trading partners to submit their proposals for deals that might help them avoid Trump's hefty "Liberation Day" tariffs from taking effect in five weeks. Administration officials have been in active talks with a number of countries since Trump announced a pause on those tariffs on Apr 9, but to date only the UK deal has come to fruition. Even that agreement, which provided the basis for the carve out from the metals tariffs, is more of a preliminary framework for more talks. With just weeks remaining, the Trump team is eager to bring more deals over the line. Reuters reported on Monday that the US Trade Representative was asking countries to list their best proposals in a number of key areas, including tariff and quota offers for purchase of US industrial and agricultural products and plans to remedy any non-tariff barriers. In turn, the letter promises answers "within days" with an indication of a "landing zone," including what tariff rates countries can be expected to be saddled with after a 90-day pause on the tariffs expires on Jul 8. At issue for most trading partners is whether they retain the current baseline rate of 10 per cent on most exports to the US after that date, or something sharply higher in many cases. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt confirmed the report on Tuesday, saying: 'USTR sent this letter to all of our trading partners just to give them a friendly reminder that the deadline is coming up." Other items requested by the Trump administration include any commitments on digital trade and economic security, along with country-specific commitments, according to the letter.

Sean 'Diddy' Combs paid hotel security officer to hand over video of him beating Cassie, jury hears
Sean "Diddy" Combs paid a hotel security officer to hand over surveillance footage that showed the hip-hop mogul violently attacking his then-girlfriend Casandra Ventura in a hallway, the officer testified on Tuesday (Jun 3) at Combs' sex trafficking trial. Eddy Garcia, who had worked at an Intercontinental hotel, told jurors that Combs contacted him shortly after the incident and asked for the footage. Combs said he would "take care" of Garcia if he gave him the video, Garcia said. "He was concerned that this video would get out and that it would ruin his career," said Garcia, who was granted immunity from prosecution to testify. Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to five counts including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. Federal prosecutors in Manhattan say Combs over two decades coerced women, including Ventura, to take part in drug-fuelled sexual performances with male sex workers known as "Freak Offs". The trial is in its fourth week. Jurors had previously been shown a March 2016 surveillance video from the hallway of the Intercontinental hotel in Los Angeles where Combs, wearing only a towel, threw Ventura to the ground, kicked her and dragged her away. Ventura said the incident occurred after Combs had given her a black eye during a "Freak Off". Garcia said he relayed Combs' message about the video to his boss, who told him he would give Combs the video in exchange for US$50,000. The next day, Garcia testified he saw his boss enter the room that hosted servers for the surveillance cameras. He said the boss gave him a USB drive, which he gave to Combs, who later returned with a brown bag and a money counter. Garcia said Combs ran cash from the bag through the counter, which displayed US$100,000, returned the money to the bag, and handed the bag to him. Combs' lawyers have acknowledged he was at times abusive in domestic relationships, but argue that women who took part in "Freak Offs" did so consensually. Prosecutors say bribery is among the racketeering acts that Combs or his employees undertook in order to facilitate "Freak Offs" and prevent word of his abuse from getting out. Combs could face life in prison if convicted on all counts. Prosecutors have said they may finish presenting their case next week, allowing the defence to put on its case.
