Horror as plane crashes in mountainous region of North Carolina
A plane has crashed into a mountainous region of North Carolina with three passengers on board.
A small aircraft crashed near the Sugar Valley Airport in Mocksville, North Carolina, around 12 pm on Tuesday, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed.
Mocksville is a small town of less than 10,000 people and is about an hour north of Charlotte.
The FAA said the aircraft was a Stinson 108 Voyager, which seats four passengers and was produced after World War II until 1950.
The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed that they were investigating the crash.
A spokesperson for the NTSB told DailyMail.com that an investigator was traveling to the scene.
'Once on site, the investigator will begin the process of documenting the scene and examining the aircraft,' the NTSB said.
'The aircraft will then be recovered to a secure facility for further evaluation.'
Information on the three passengers wasn't released, and it's unclear what led to the crash.
DailyMail.com reached out to Davie County officials for more information on the passengers' conditions, but didn't immediately hear back.
The incident comes just days after a plane crashed into the Long Island Sound off the coast of Connecticut.
There were two people on board the Piper PA-32, a small aircraft that seats six and is typically used for private flights.
Branford Fire Chief Thomas Mahoney said the pilot called for assistance before the flight went down.
'The Coast Guard along with Branford Fire Department Marine 5 arrived on location, located the parties in the water [and] brought them safely aboard,' Mahoney added.
The aircraft crashed into the water six miles away from Tweed Regional Airport, and emergency responders rescued the two people on board.
'They were wet, cold, and had some cuts on the hands and face,' a Coast Guard spokesperson said.
In a third recent incident, two passengers and a dog were killed in a Vans RV-10 aircraft in Los Angeles in May. A Vans RV-10 aircraft is a small four-seat single-engine plane.
The aircraft crashed into a home and caused a dramatic fire. The fire department later confirmed that the homeowners evacuated safely.

The notice says she was seen at 10am in Miller Hall the day she vanished. In their statement, police said her disappearance 'poses a credible threat' to her health and safety. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) confirmed to Daily Mail that Resendiz 'has not been seen or been in contact with family or friends since May 29.' NCIS also fears the young woman is in danger. Resendiz grew up in Texas, where her mother still lives, and works as a culinary specialist for the Navy. Castle told local news outlets that her daughter is extremely kind and loving. Police have described her as a 5-foot-tall Hispanic woman with brown eyes and black hair. Officials say she weighs about 110 pounds. She goes by the name Angie. According to the New York Post, her mother said it felt almost as if her daughter just stopped existing. 'She's spent no money, made no calls. She just stopped.' As the NCIS continues to investigate the case, they are looking for any and all information about her whereabouts. Dollar General's self checkout gamble could spell the end of the machines for good
It may be the end of self-checkouts as we know it after Dollar General's tech gamble paid off. The retailer removed self-checkouts from 12,000 stores nationwide in 2024 - leaving them in only a handful of locations. The company said at the time that it made the move in order to cut rising 'shrink', the retail term for theft. The value store had seen shoplifting soar since installing the tech. Now it seems removing the machines is helping stop theft. The company reported that lower shrink and higher inventory markup were major factors in boosting its income by 8 percent to $392 million in the first quarter of this year, Retail Dive reported. Chief Financial Officer Kelly Dilts said improvement in shrink rates will be a tailwind throughout the year and that 'should be the gift that just keeps on giving.' 'The removal of self-checkout is sensible at Dollar General. The stores are pretty small and don't really need self-checkout,' Neil Saunders, retail expert at GlobalDatatold Other chains may follow in its footsteps, he added, but he does not think it is likely they will disappear entirely from all stores. 'I think some chains will remove self checkout, but we won't see the concept disappear entirely. It still has advantages,' Saunders said. Retailers like Walmart, Costco, and Target have already begun removing self-checkout, mainly to curb theft and revamp stores. In the first quarter of this year Dollar General has opened 156 stores and remodeled 688 locations as part of its Project Elevate, and revamped 599 through so-called Project Renovate. Walmart also experienced sales increases in its recent quarters, having removed self-checkouts from all Sam's Club stores in favor of AI technology. While Target has removed self-checkout in some locations, a spokesperson told the New York Post that it will not be gone for good. Despite the apparent success of the removal of self-checkout machines, it has not been completely smooth sailing for Dollar General in recent months. Locations were shuttered last year, and Vasos claimed its 49 percent profit drop in last year's fourth quarter was partially due to consumers pulling back on spending.
