Diddy On Trial Cassie's mum, ‘The Punisher' and gun photos

BBC News21-05-2025

A warning, this episode contains descriptions of violence and graphic descriptions of sex.
On Tuesday, Cassie's mother Regina Ventura testified for the prosecution. She told the court that in 2011 she took out a loan to pay Sean 'Diddy' Combs $20,000, so he would not release explicit tapes of her daughter. He repaid the money shortly after.
Exotic dancer Sharay Hayes, known as 'The Punisher', testified that he was hired to perform for Diddy and singer Cassie Ventura between eight and twelve times.
Diddy's former assistant David James told the court that Diddy was not aware of everything going on at his house.
Prosecutors showed evidence from the raids on Combs' Miami home on Star Island, Florida. This included photos of loaded guns, bullets and sex toys.
Scott Mescudi, the rapper known as Kid Cudi, is expected to give evidence later this week.
Anoushka Mutanda-Dougherty speaks to the BBC's New York digital reporter, Sakshi Venkatraman about the day in court.
Sean 'Diddy' Combs is on trial in New York, facing federal charges of sex trafficking, racketeering with conspiracy and transportation for prostitution. He denies all the charges.

Bonnaroo Music Festival canceled due to severe weather as fans left fuming ‘after spending thousands'

A HUGE music festival has left fans devastated after it was canceled. Fans are fuming over the "thousands" of dollars they have lost after the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival was canceled due to severe weather on Friday. 6 6 6 The festival, which is held in Manchester, Tennessee, was called off on Friday 13, with many commenting on how the supposedly unlucky date brought them a spot of bad luck. Canceled for the weekend, the festival only got one full day in action on Thursday, June 12. The festival kicked off on Thursday with the likes of Luke Combs and Dom Dolla taking to the stage. As per reports, the main area of the festival, which is called Centeroo, was evacuated at 1:30 CT in the afternoon. The festival released a statement on their app on Friday, revealing the remaining days had been called off. The statement on the app read: "We are beyond gutted, but we must make the safest decision and cancel the remainder of Bonnaroo." Then, on Instagram, they issued further details. They said: "Today, the National Weather Service provided us with an updated forecast with significant and steady precipitation that will produce deteriorating camping and egress conditions in the coming days." They continued: "We are going to make things right with you, and you will find refund information at the end of this message, but let's start with the next steps. "The number one thing we need from the Bonnaroo community is patience. "Some of your fellow campers' sites are in rough shape. "The rain has settled in areas and made certain parts of Outeroo difficult to manage." They added: "We'd like to prioritize getting those folks as well as those with accessibility needs off The Farm as soon as possible this evening. "To do this, we ask that if your campsite is in good shape or if you're in an RV or pre-pitched accommodation, please consider spending the night with us and we'll start working to get you out of here safely tomorrow." The statement concluded: "We will continue to operate as usual in Outeroo including food vendors and all health and safety infrastructure. 6 6 "We have put our hearts and souls into making this weekend the most special one of the year, and cannot express how crushed we are to have to make this decision. "Thank you in advance for your patience, your positivity and your unfailing Bonnaroovian spirit." The festival also detailed what would be refunded for fans. "All 1-Day Friday, Saturday and Sunday Admission Tickets purchased via Front Gate Tickets and 1-Day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Day Parting purchased via Front Gate Tickets will be refunded. "All 4-Day Admission Tickets purchased via Front Gate will receive a 75% refund. "All 4-Day camping accommodations purchased via Front Gate Tickets will receive a 75% refund. "All refunds will be process in as little as 30 days, to the original method of payment." Reacting to the announcement on social media, fans were fuming. "BRO WE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO BE HERE," said one person. Another added: "Literally spent THOUSANDS of dollars flying from Hawaii……. first roo and most likely my last." While a third penned: "*Not a single drop of rain was dropped after this was posted* lol." 6

Democrat politician and her husband killed in ‘politically motivated assassination'

A Democratic politician and her husband have been shot and killed during a series of 'politically motivated assassination' attempts in Minnesota. Melissa Hortman, the Democratic speaker in Minnesota's House of Representatives, along with her husband, was shot by a gunman in their home in the early hours of Saturday. John Hoffman, a Democratic state senator, and his spouse were also shot multiple times. Both have received surgery and are expected to survive, officials say. Police have issued a shelter order around the Brooklyn Park area of Minnesota as they hunt for a gunman who may be impersonating a police officer. Officers arriving at Ms Hortman's home arrived to find an SUV police equipped with emergency lights. The suspect was wearing a vest, and armed with a taser and other equipment while pretending to be a police officer, said Mark Bruley, the Brooklyn Park police chief. Officers decided to check Ms Hortman's home as a precaution after Mr Hoffman was shot. '[The] Suspect exploited the trust of our uniforms, what our uniforms are meant to represent', said Bob Johnson, a public safety Commissioner. 'That betrayal is deeply disturbing to those of us who wear the badge with honour and responsibility.' After an exchange of gunfire, the suspect fled on foot out of the back of the house. A manhunt is under way to find the gunman. 'It was not a real police officer. This is somebody that clearly had been impersonating a police officer. Again, using the trust of this badge and this uniform to manipulate their way into the home,' Mr Ruth said. A search of the car found a manifesto which included other political targets, he added. An alert warning residents that officers were looking for a suspected gunman was sent at 5.30am by Brooklyn Park Police. 'Police are looking for a suspect in multiple targeted shootings who is armed and dangerous,' the message read. 'Suspect is white male, brown hair, wearing black body armour over a blue shirt and blue pants and may misrepresent himself as law enforcement.' According to Fox 9, one suspect was already in custody. The gunman or men reportedly fled the scene in a car that 'looked like a police car,' a source told the station. The shelter-in-place order is currently being enforced in the three mile radius of Minnesota's Edinburgh Golf Course. Tim Walz, the Minnesota governor, said the killings appeared to be a 'politically motivated assassination.' 'My good friend and colleague, Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, were shot and killed early this morning in what appears to be a politically motivated assassination,' Mr Walz said. 'Our state lost a great leader, and I lost a dearest of friends. 'She was a formidable public servant, a fixture and a giant in Minnesota. She woke up every day determined to make this state a better place. 'She is irreplaceable, and we've been missed by so many.' Mr Walz said he had activated a state-emergency-operations centre to deal with the incident. 'I've been briefed this morning on an ongoing situation involving targeted shootings in Champlin and Brooklyn Park,' Mr Waltz wrote on X. 'The Minnesota Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement are on the scene. 'We will share more information soon.' Mr Hoffman, a Democrat, was first elected in 2012. He runs Hoffman Strategic Advisors, a consulting firm. He previously served as vice chair of the Anoka Hennepin School Board, which manages the largest school district in Minnesota. Mr Hoffman is married and has one daughter. Ms Hortman is the top House Democratic leader in the state legislature and a former House speaker. She was first elected in 2004. Ms Hortman, a lawyer, is married and has two children. Both represent districts located north of Minneapolis. Dan Bongino, the deputy director of the FBI, said the bureau is 'fully engaged on the ground in Minnesota and is working in collaboration with our local and state partners'. Pam Bondi, the attorney general, said: 'I am closely monitoring developments in Minnesota after what appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers. 'The FBI is on the ground investigating this case alongside state and local partners. This horrific violence will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.'
