Authorities crack down on sales of fake Harumanis mangoes
KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities are monitoring the sale of mangoes falsely claimed to be Harumanis, but are in fact different varieties through Ops Harumanis.
According to TV3's Buletin Utama, stalls in the state displaying mango varieties other than Harumanis which could confuse consumers would be issued warnings to prevent any form of deception that could damage the reputation of the popular mango.
The integrated operation involving the Kangar Municipal Council (MPK), the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama), and the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) was carried out along the Kuala Perlis-Changlun and Pauh-Padang Besar routes.
"We will not allow the name of this Perlis product to be misused by irresponsible parties," said Kangar Municipal Council President Affendi Rajini Khant.
Thirty stalls were inspected, but none were ordered to close as no public complaints had been received regarding traffic disruptions or fraudulent sales.
Last month, Fama reminded the public to be cautious of unscrupulous traders selling counterfeit Perlis Harumanis mangoes.
Perlis Fama director Mohd Anzara Azizan said observations showed that some traders were taking advantage of the situation by selling imported mangoes that allegedly resemble Harumanis at low prices, claiming them to be the state's iconic fruit.

BALING: An elderly couple in Kampung Bukit Iboi, Kupang, received a nasty shock last night when a King Cobra slithered into their home as they were preparing for the Aidiladha celebration. Baling Fire and Rescue Station chief Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil said they received a call about the three-metre-long snake at 10.40pm yesterday. He said the team found the King Cobra behaving aggressively and slithering along a brick wall towards the roof vent. Sook's Tamu Monggorimot gains attention

Tamu Monggorimot was established in 1992 as a sales platform for farmers, small entrepreneurs and local residents. Advertisement Since then, it has undergone several phases of upgrading including the latest allocation of RM500,000 channeled by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) in 2024 as a result of a proposal by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup. When officiating the tamu in Kampung Monggorimot on Saturday, Arthur said the establishment of this tamu aims to increase the income of rural residents, provide a direct marketing platform without dependence on middlemen, and foster the spirit of entrepreneurship among the local community. Apart from that, he said, this tamu market also plays an important role in preserving the cultural heritage of the local community, besides contributing to the country's food security policy through the supply of fresh and local agricultural produce. 'This effort aims to upgrade the facilities and management of the tamu market to be more systematic and competitive, thus making Tamu Monggorimot a competitive local economic center,' he said. Arthur told that Tamu Monggorimot operates every Saturday from 6.00 am to 12.00 noon with the participation of around 60 traders who sell various products including food, beverages, agricultural products, river and sea fish, chicken and meat. Since 2017, he said, Fama has upgraded eight tourist markets in Sabah including Keningau, Kudat, Kunak, Beluran, Tuaran, Telupid, Kinabatangan and Sook – making Tamu Monggorimot one of the latest achievements in this effort. He said, this program is part of FAMA's ongoing initiative to strengthen the agricultural marketing network at the grassroots level and empower the rural economy in Sabah. 'Fama is committed to continuing to support rural economic development and strengthen agricultural marketing networks nationwide,' he said. At the program, Arthur also held a business equipment handover session to local entrepreneurs and witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Fama and the Monggorimot Residents' Committee as well as visits to entrepreneur stalls. Perlis FAMA Eyes RM20,000 In Sales At One-day Semarak Aidiladha
ARAU, June 5 (Bernama) -- The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) Perlis branch is targeting RM20,000 in sales for the one-day Semarak Aidiladha Special Sale, which is being held today at the Simpang Empat Permanent Farmers Market, near here. State FAMA director Mohd Anzara Azizan said the special sale involves 50 traders offering a total of 8.3 metric tonnes of food supplies, allowing consumers to purchase essential goods at discounted prices ahead of the Aidiladha celebration. 'The items offered are 0.2 metric tonnes of local beef, 0.1 metric tonnes of chicken, 3.0 metric tonnes of fish and seafood, 2.0 metric tonnes of vegetables and fruits, and 3.0 metric tonnes of local white rice, with prices ranging from 10 to 30 per cent lower than the market,' he said after launching the sale today.
