Exclusive Interview: Tom Amodei on Patelmo's Pizzeria's Franchise Expansion, Sicilian Recipes & Artisan Pizza Business

From Local Favorite to National Expansion: Patelmo's Pizzeria Brings Sicilian Tradition to Franchise Partners
WEST CHESTER, PA, UNITED STATES, March 6, 2025 / EINPresswire.com / -- Patelmo's Pizzeria, the West Chester institution known for its Sicilian-style pizzas and 100-year-old family recipes, is stepping into the national spotlight with the launch of its franchise model. We sat down with Founder and CEO Tom Amodei to discuss what this expansion means for aspiring entrepreneurs and how Patelmo's plans to deliver authentic, high-quality pizza to new communities.
Q: Tom, congratulations on the launch of Patelmo's franchise model. What inspired this decision?
Thank you! Patelmo's has always been more than just a pizzeria – it's a reflection of my family's heritage and love for great food. For years, we've had customers ask if we'd consider expanding to new locations, and I realized that franchising was the best way to grow while keeping our core values intact. This model allows us to partner with passionate business owners who want to share authentic Sicilian pizza with their communities.
Q: What makes Patelmo's franchise opportunity stand out from others in the market?
Our focus is on authenticity and quality. We're not just offering a pizza franchise – we're offering a piece of history. With over 100 years of tradition, our recipes have been passed down through generations, and that craftsmanship resonates with customers. Franchisees receive the benefit of those unique recipes, but they also get comprehensive support, from training to marketing. The goal is to set them up for success right from the start.
Q: What kind of support can franchisees expect when they join Patelmo's?
We're very hands-on. New franchisees go through two weeks of training at one of our established locations, where they learn everything from crafting the perfect crust to managing day-to-day operations. After that, we spend two weeks on-site with them at their location, guiding them through the launch process. But it doesn't stop there – we provide ongoing marketing support, operational guidance, and growth strategies to ensure long-term success.
Q: You mentioned growth – how has Patelmo's performed in recent years?
We've been fortunate to see consistent growth. Between 2021 and 2024, our business expanded by 20%. That's largely due to the growing demand for high-quality, artisan pizza. People want more than just a slice – they want an experience, and Patelmo's delivers that. Our loyal customer base keeps coming back because they know they're getting something special.
Q: What kind of entrepreneurs are you looking for as franchise partners?
We're looking for people who are passionate about food and community. You don't need to have a background in restaurants – we provide the training. What's important is that you value quality, tradition, and customer service. We want franchisees who are excited to build a business and make an impact in their neighborhoods.
Q: For someone interested in becoming a franchisee, how can they learn more?
It's simple – they can visit our website at www.patelmospizzeria.com/franchise or reach out directly to our development team at [email protected]. We're happy to answer any questions and walk them through the process.
Q: Finally, what does the future look like for Patelmo's Pizzeria?
I'm incredibly excited for what's ahead. This franchise expansion is just the beginning. I envision Patelmo's becoming a household name in cities and towns across the country, delivering that authentic, handcrafted taste of Sicily to more and more people.

The 1970s Seafood Chain Restaurant That Only Has 3 Locations Remaining In One US State

No matter how good a fish sandwich can be, there's something about the combination of seafood and fast food chain restaurants that Americans seemingly don't trust. Just look at the rise and decline of Long John Silver's, which had over 1,500 locations in the '80s but maintains less than 500 today. No new chains have really risen up to fill that space, and fish sandwiches play third-fiddle to burgers and chicken at places like Burger King and McDonald's. At one point in time, there was actually another seafood chain that was almost as big as Long John Silver's was, but there's a good chance you've never heard of it, because it only has three locations left, all in Ohio. Arthur Treacher's was founded in Columbus, Ohio in 1969, with future Wendy's co-create Dave Thomas among the founders. Unlike the more generic seafood menu of Long John Silver's, Arthur Treacher's was specifically a British-style fish and chips restaurant, serving hearty portions of battered and fried cod with fries. The name came from British actor Arthur Treacher, known from playing a butler in Shirley Temple films before becoming the announcer for talk show host Merv Griffin. Treacher licensed his image out as a mascot for the brand, and for a few decades, the chain thrived, peaking at over 800 locations. Read more: 15 Failed Restaurant Chains We Actually Miss So what happened to Arthur Treacher's? Mostly a string of bad luck. The British-style chain was dependent on using the fish traditionally used in fish and chips: cod. In the mid-70s, a political showdown between Iceland and the U.K. that spiralled into an event known as the Cod Wars led to the closing of fishing zones, and the price of cod skyrocketed in the States. In 1979, Arthur Treacher's was bought by frozen fish-stick brand Mrs. Paul's. The new owners wanted to cut costs and boost the sales of their own pre-existing products at the same time. This led to a switch from cod to pollock, which didn't go down well with customers. Arthur Treacher's would change hands several times over the coming years as different companies tried to turn the fortunes of the brand around, eventually being acquired by Nathan's Famous in 2006 following a licensing deal. Nathan's Famous started introducing some co-branded locations. A few of those Arthur Treacher's inside of Nathan's still survive in the New York area, but only three stand-alone stores are left, all in the Cleveland area. But all is not lost. One of those stores is actually a new location that opened in Cleveland Heights in 2025. Could this be the start of a comeback for a once-famous fast food brand? Only time will tell. El Pollo Loco opening new restaurants in multiple western states. Here's where.

Foodies wanting to grab a Pollo Bowl, tacos, or other menu items from El Pollo Loco will soon have new restaurants in six states, including Colorado and Texas. The Mexican-style restaurant is based in California but plans to open at least 10 restaurants in 2025 in other states, an El Pollo Loco spokesperson confirmed on May 30. That includes the company's 500th restaurant, which is set for Colorado Springs, Colorado. According to the company, it's the largest system-wide expansion since 2022. According to the spokesperson, the new additions will be constructed based on the company's new store design, which was unveiled in October 2024 as El Pollo Loco neared its 50th anniversary. New restaurants will feature updated branding elements, upgraded furniture and lighting, energy-efficient hoods and HVAC. So far in 2025, El Pollo Loco has opened two new locations, both of them in California: one in Los Banos and another in Lompoc. However, the company spokesperson said most future locations opening in 2025 are set for markets outside of California, including Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Texas, and Washington. The spokesperson said the company plans to open new locations in 2026 as well, including some in nontraditional locations like airports and university campuses. Customers can expect to see locations open in 2026 or later in states like California, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, and more. El Pollo Loco serves chicken that's marinated using citrus and spices, then fire-grilled over a low flame for 60 minutes, as well as hand-smashed guacamole, salsa fresca and avocado salsa using real tomatoes, cilantro, and onion, according to its website.
