KTR appears before ACB again in Formula-E Racing fund misuse case
Hyderabad, June 16 (UNI) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K T Rama Rao (KTR) appeared before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Monday in connection with the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities related to the Formula-E car racing event.
The hearing began at 1000 hours at the ACB office in Banjara Hills. KTR arrived at Telangana Bhavan by 0900 hours and later proceeded to the ACB office accompanied by his legal counsel, Ramachandra Rao. The ACB had issued a summons to him on June 13.
This marks KTR's second appearance before the ACB in the case. He was previously questioned for nearly six and a half hours on January 9. The case pertains to the alleged misappropriation of government funds during the BRS regime to support the Formula-E race in Hyderabad.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, KTR said, 'I have been summoned by the ACB to appear for investigation on Monday at 1000 hours in the Formula-E race case, where Rs 44 crore was transferred from bank to bank, and the money is very much in the account of FE. As a law-abiding citizen, I will attend and fully cooperate with the ACB officials.'
According to the FIR filed by the ACB, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) allegedly transferred funds amounting to Rs 44 crore to London-based Formula E Operations (FEO) in violation of established procedures. The payment was reportedly made as the state's share for sponsoring the second edition of the Formula-E race in Hyderabad.
While the first edition in early 2023 was sponsored by the private firm Ace Nxt Gen, the company is said to have declined to support the second edition. Subsequently, KTR, who was then Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD), allegedly directed senior officials to ensure that HMDA covered the costs. ACB officials claim that this was done without following due process.
The ACB has already questioned several key individuals, including former MAUD Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar, and representatives from Ace Nxt Gen and FEO.
Meanwhile, the BRS has strongly criticised the investigation, calling it politically motivated. Party leaders have demanded a fair and transparent probe, alleging that the case is being used as a tool for a political vendetta.
Through a post on the social media platform X, KTR expressed strong displeasure against the Congress government.
He stated that the ongoing enquiries, commissions, and what he described as political harassment by the Congress party would not deter them.
KTR affirmed that these actions would not stop the BRS from exposing the government's alleged failure in implementing the promised six guarantees.
He further accused the Congress of deceiving the public with what he termed "420 promises and declarations," and asserted that no matter how many conspiracies are hatched, they will not succeed in silencing the BRS.

Honeymoon murder: Victim's kin demand narco test on Sonam's parents, brother
Indore, The elder brother of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based transport businessman murdered while honeymooning in Meghalaya, on Monday demanded a narco-analysis test on prime accused Sonam's parents and said the family suspects the involvement of more people in the killing. Police have arrested five people, including Raja Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam and her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha , for their alleged involvement in the 29-year-old businessman's murder last month. They are in the Meghalaya police's custody, and an SIT is probing the case. Talking to reporters during Raghuvanshi's 13th-day death ritual here, his elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, said, "We want a narco-analysis test on Sonam, her parents, brother Govind and sister-in-law." Sonam is accused of getting her husband killed during their honeymoon with the help of Kushwaha and three others, in a case which has sent shockwaves across the country. The other three accused, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi, were initially suspected to be hired killers, but the police later found they were friends of Kushwaha. Vipin Raghuvanshi said, "New videos related to the murder are surfacing one after the other. We believe more people might be involved in my younger brother's killing." He also demanded that people who posted these videos on social media also be questioned and asked why they had not released the footage earlier. He, however, expressed satisfaction with the Meghalaya police's probe. "Our family is happy with the investigation," he added. Meanwhile, Sonam's brother Govind attended the ritual feast, although the Raghuvanshi's family said he had not been invited. "I am here to seek forgiveness. If anyone suspects us, we are asking to be investigated. We stand with Raja Raghuvanshi's family," he told reporters. Govind had also taken part in Raja Raghuvanshi's post-death ritual in Ujjain on June 13. However, tensions between Govind and the Raghuvanshi family appear to be growing. The victim's other brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, said, "I didn't speak to Govind during the ceremony. He may have come to show sympathy. We did not invite him." As per the case details, a few days after their wedding, Raja and Sonam left for Sohra in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district and went missing on May 23. His body was found in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls on June 2 while a search continued for Sonam. She emerged in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, around 1,200 km away from the crime spot, in the early hours of June 9 and surrendered before police.

Abu Dhabi state oil firm makes USD 18.7 billion bid for Australia's Santos
SYDNEY: Abu Dhabi's state-owned oil company is leading an USD 18.7 billion takeover bid for Australian energy group Santos as it seeks to build a global natural gas giant, the two firms said Monday. Santos' board said it planned to unanimously recommend the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company's offer to shareholders if it can agree on the takeover terms. Adelaide-based Santos has operations in Australia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and the United States, and is a major supplier of liquefied natural gas in Australia and Asia. The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company offered USD 5.76 a share in a bid for all of Santos' outstanding stock, valuing the entire company at USD 18.7 billion. The price per share is 28 percent higher than Santos' closing level on Friday. It was the "final, non-binding" offer from the Middle East oil company, which had offered two, lower confidential bids in March, Santos said. Santos' stock was more than 11 percent higher in afternoon trade on the Australian Securities Exchange. The Abu Dhabi-based, state-owned energy firm made its bid via a consortium led by its own subsidiary, XRG. Other members of the consortium include Abu Dhabi Development Holding Company and global investment firm Carlyle. In a statement, XRG said it aimed to build on Santos' legacy as a trusted energy producer, "strengthening domestic and international energy security." "The proposed transaction is aligned with XRG's strategy and ambition to build a leading integrated global gas and LNG business," it said. Santos' board said it intended to "unanimously recommend" that shareholders vote in favour of the deal if it can agree on terms and there is no better offer.
