Blair Kinghorn links up with Lions – and wakes up captain Maro Itoje
Blair Kinghorn has revealed his first act upon arrival into the British and Irish Lions camp in Australia was to wake up captain Maro Itoje.
Two days after helping Toulouse clinch a third successive Top 14 title by beating Bordeaux in extra-time at the Stade de France, Kinghorn joined up with his new team-mates for the first time.
And the Scotland full-back was given a shock when he entered his bedroom at the Lions' Brisbane hotel on Monday night.
'I was with Maro. I got in about quarter to 12. I was thinking, 'Surely there won't be anyone in the room',' he said.
'I go in, chuck the bags down and up he pops. I was like, 'Uh, sorry!' He'd been sleeping and I woke him up. It was funny – he woke up, shook my hand and went straight back to sleep.'
Kinghorn played 100 minutes of the Top 14 final and celebrated deep into the night before heading to the airport at midday to catch his flight from Paris to Brisbane.
'My bag was packed. I had to make sure everything was ready before going up from Toulouse to Paris on the Thursday,' said Kinghorn, who recently returned from eight weeks out with a knee injury.
'Luckily my mum and my wife were there to help me take everything up because packing for two separate things is a bit stressful.
'I think I've got everything. All you need is your boots and your passport, so that's fine.
'It's good to finally be here and it feels a bit more real for me now. I've got all the kit and I'm with the boys.'
The Lions' third fixture on tour, against the Queensland Reds in Brisbane on Wednesday, has come too soon for Kinghorn to make his debut, but Saturday's New South Wales Waratahs clash is a realistic target.
While he is playing catch-up in the race for full-back duties against Australia, having arrived eight days later than the rest of the squad, he is very familiar with the environment he has entered.
'At Toulouse, the squad is so deep and so talented that you've got to be on top of your game. You've got to work hard in training every day,' he said.
'Coaches are on your back the whole time, which is great. It's high pressure, but it makes you thrive.
'It's the same with the Lions. Everyone's here to do their best and to win the Test series and have a successful tour. Every training session is going to be competitive.'
A future Lions tour to France became a talking point in the build-up to the expedition Down Under, but Kinghorn believes the Top 14 would provide a significant obstacle to overcome if the rotation of destination countries is to be expanded.
'There would be no jetlag for starters. It would be pretty cool,' Kinghorn said.
'I don't know how happy the French clubs would be, though, because the Top 14 season is so gruelling and so long. But the public would love it. It would be awesome.'

Nick Kyrgios claims Emma Raducanu is in a Wimbledon love triangle with two stars
Emma's love life has become the talk of WImbledon and now Nick Kyrgios couldn't resist stirring the pot Nick Kyrgios has mischievously claimed Emma Raducanu is in the middle of a 'love triangle' with fellow tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz and Jack Draper. The Aussie tennis ace made the bold comment with a grin while speaking on talkSPORT, where he's now working after being dropped by the BBC. Emma and Carlos have been the subject of light-hearted romance rumours recently, after the pair were spotted together multiple times from practice courts at Wimbledon to courtside support at the HSBC Championships. The two 22-year-olds, who are set to play mixed doubles together at the US Open, also recently joined forces as brand ambassadors for Evian but when asked about the buzz around their friendship, Emma laughed it off and made it clear there's no romance involved. 'I'm really happy to be playing with him… we're just good friends,' she said. That didn't stop Kyrgios from stirring the pot this week, cheekily telling listeners: 'I don't know, I think it's a love triangle! Draper, Alcaraz, Raducanu. They're fighting over Raducanu I think, I'm not sure.' Referring to Emma's smiley Wimbledon appearances, he added: 'I think the outside [she looks happy]. I don't know who's making her happy. The tennis world loves a love story, they love to try and put two [players] together. But Emma is number one British female player at the moment, she's doing fairly well. 'Obviously, winning a grand slam at 19 is never easy, it comes with a lot of expectations from the outside world. But, you know, as long as she's happy." Earlier this week, Emma kicked off her Wimbledon 2025 campaign with a solid 6-3 6-3 win over fellow Brit Mimi Xu. She's now set to face reigning 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova in the next round. Meanwhile, Jack Draper begins his tournament against Sebastian Baez, and Emma is already off the mark after a tough battle with Fabio Fognini. During a pre-Wimbledon press conference, Emma once again dismissed the swirling romance rumours with a laugh. Speaking about her upcoming doubles pairing with Alcaraz, she said: 'No, it was fun yesterday. We were both on court with (water brand) Evian.' 'Yeah, I'm really happy obviously to be playing with him. Yeah, we had a good time yesterday.' READ MORE: Emma Raducanu addresses Carlos Alcaraz romance rumours with four-word answer When the inevitable question about romance came up, she smiled and replied: 'We're just good friends.' The moderator swiftly wrapped up the topic, with Emma joking: 'Way to wrap up!' Speaking fondly about their four-year friendship, she explained: 'I've known him for years and actually in Wimbledon 2021, it was kind of the first time I started getting to know him… I remember he beat Stef [Tsitsipas] in the third round and it was like a big win, his breakout kind of win on a big stage… we were staying in touch for the whole time and yeah, it's nice.' She added: 'We have a good relationship still. He's obviously overtaken me a lot, but it's nice that we have that from a while ago. 'I think for all of us, we really kind of value those connections that we had from when we were young… when you become a bit more known or a bit more successful, you just find yourself reverting back to people you knew from a young age because you're like, that's a real genuine connection.' While the so-called 'love triangle' remains nothing more than playful tennis gossip, it's safe to say Nickhas successfully stirred the Wimbledon pot.

Carlos Alcaraz conversation with opponent overheard at end of Wimbledon classic
Carlos Alcaraz edged a five-set thriller to beat Fabio Fognini in the first round of the men's singles at Wimbledon, as the Spaniard began his title defence with a classic on Centre Court Defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz sent a classy message to opponent Fabio Fognini after the pair's epic five-set match on Monday. Alcaraz, 22, narrowly beat 38-year-old Fognini on Centre Court as the Italian put up a tremendous fight against the 2025 favourite, who's aiming to make it three Wimbledon men's singles titles in a row. Fognini, a nine-time ATP singles champion, made it clear ahead of his visit to the All England Club that this is his final season. And the veteran went out with his head held high, winning the second and fourth sets against Alcaraz, who had some kind words for him. The Spaniard was spotted talking to Fognini after the end of their thrilling contest and in his press post-match conference, Alcaraz was asked to reveal what was said. "I just told him that I have big respect to him," the two-time Wimbledon champion replied. "He's the best. Yeah, I have a big respect to him. Everything that he has done in his career, what he has done today. I love watching him play. "I'm just glad to have shared the court once again with him, that I have shared the locker rooms, the tournament with him. Just amazing. Just have big respect to him." On X, formerly Twitter, Alcaraz added: "38 years old? Congratulations on the incredible match! It was an honor to share this battle at Wimbledon with you!" The Spanish superstar always anticipated a difficult match, telling reporters: "I knew at the beginning that it was going to be really difficult playing against Fabio. Doesn't matter, I mean, it's his last year, his last tournaments. "The talent that Fabio has is immense. In every match he can show his best tennis. I think today he has shown one of his best tennis. But yes, really proud about getting through and give myself another chance to be better in the next round." Will Carlos Alcaraz make it three in a row at Wimbledon? Give us your prediction in the comments section. Fognini reciprocated Alcaraz's kind words, saying: "At the moment I think he's probably the best player in the world. He played against Jannik [Sinner] one month ago amazing final. So all the respect for him, yeah." Up next for Alcaraz is British qualifier Oliver Tarvet. The second-round match will be played on Wednesday, with the time and court yet to be confirmed. Tarvet, 21, is ranked 733rd in the world and earned his place in the second round by beating Switzerland's Leandro Riedi 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Monday. The Brit is relishing the chance to face Alcaraz and commented: "I'm quietly confident I can win against anyone. Alcaraz isn't an exception to that. "He's done an incredible amount in the tennis world. He's a difficult guy not to respect. I will just go out there and try and treat it like another match. At the end of the day, for me, I try and play the ball, not the player."

Shes Perfect just that in workout, with Newmarket decision pending
First past the post in the French 1000 Guineas before being demoted by the ParisLongchamp stewards, she failed failed to see out the 10-furlong trip in the Prix de Diane. Fellowes would love a confidence-boosting win, with the Group Three Valiant Stakes at Ascot later in the month an alternative, but he also feels Newmarket will suit the daughter of Sioux Nation. 'The gallop went really well and I was very, very happy. She worked over seven furlongs, it was beautiful ground and I was very grateful to those at the July course for letting us do it,' said Fellowes. 'She looked great after it and we'll see how she comes out of it. I'll probably make a decision in the next few days or so. 'It's a funny one, if it was the Valiant at Newmarket and the Group One at Ascot it would be a very easy decision because I like the idea of running at Newmarket – but I also like the idea of dropping down in grade and giving her a confidence boost. I just think Newmarket will suit her better than Ascot. 'We'll look at potentially what is going to turn up and we'll go from there.'
