Mavericks believe Jason Kidd will return as head coach next season, not fill Knicks vacancy: Sources
Amid widespread speculation that Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd could force his way out to join the New York Knicks, there are strong signs that the 52-year-old Hall of Famer will stay put. As The Athletic reported, the Knicks have serious interest in hiring Kidd — who has two seasons left on his contract — after they shockingly fired Tom Thibodeau last week. Yet according to team and league sources, the Mavericks continue to privately insist to key stakeholders that Kidd won't be going anywhere. According to a team source, the Knicks had yet to request permission to speak with Kidd as of Tuesday afternoon. Advertisement The widely held belief is that Kidd, ultimately, is hoping to parlay the Knicks' interest into a lucrative contract extension. It remains to be seen how Kidd might respond if he doesn't get the desired extension, and there is historical precedent here when it comes to Kidd spurning the Mavericks for the Knicks. At the end of his decorated 19-year playing career — in the summer of 2012 — Kidd was expected to re-sign with the Mavericks in free agency. But he changed course abruptly, signing a multiyear deal to play alongside Carmelo Anthony in New York. As of now, the Mavericks don't believe that Kidd will leave them for the Knicks again. Kidd has been present at the Mavericks' practice facility this past week as they've held workouts and has functioned in a business-as-usual capacity. What's more, the negotiations with former Toronto Raptors and Phoenix Suns head coach Jay Triano for a lead assistant-coaching position with the Mavericks have been revealing when it comes to Kidd. According to a league source, Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison made it clear to Triano during the process that Kidd would remain the head coach. Triano, the league source said, agreed to terms on the assistant position on Tuesday. NBA reporter Jake Fischer was first to report on the Mavericks' interest in Triano. Triano has spent the past three years as a Sacramento Kings assistant. In September, he was promoted to associate head coach. The Kings fired his boss Mike Brown in December and tapped Doug Christie for their head-coaching position. The Knicks are the only NBA team with a head-coaching vacancy right now. They fired Thibodeau after he led them to the playoffs in four of the five years he was in charge. New York made the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years this past spring, but it still decided to part ways with Thibodeau. Advertisement Kidd, who was one of the candidates the Knicks interviewed in their 2020 hiring cycle, has a strong relationship with New York's star point guard in Jalen Brunson. Kidd coached Brunson for one season with the Mavericks in 2021-22. Brunson's strong performance in the 2022 playoffs helped him earn a four-year, $104 million deal with the Knicks. The Mavericks have downplayed the possibility of a Kidd-Brunson reunion this week. The belief internally in Dallas is that Kidd will be the team's coach next season.

Tyrese Haliburton injury update: Pacers star guard has 'lower leg thing'
Tyrese Haliburton injury update: Pacers star guard has 'lower leg thing' Show Caption Hide Caption Pacers stars under pressure ahead of Game 3 The Pacers need more from both Tyrese Halliburton and Pascal Siakam to turn the tide against the Thunder. INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton has what he calls 'a lower leg thing,' but the Pacers and Haliburton are not expecting it to cause an issue. Haliburton walked with a noticeable limp following Oklahoma City's 123-107 victory in Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday, June 8. 'I'm fine – really just a lower leg thing,' Haliburton said Tuesday, June 10, when he was walking with a normal gait. 'I'll leave it at that. I don't think there's anything more to elaborate. I feel fine and I'll be ready to go for Game 3.' Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said: 'At this time of year, I don't know if anybody's feeling perfect. … He practiced. He went through everything. I know he has some discomfort. He feels it. But each day it's getting better. I don't think you're going to hear him making a big deal out of it. 'This is the time of year where it just doesn't get any better than this. The atmosphere, the interest, the opportunity, coming back and being at home, I mean, there's just so much to be excited about. We've got a couple guys that are slightly under the weather. I don't think anything is going to keep these guys from playing in the game.' MORE: Tyrese Haliburton going to film school to decode Thunder's defense MORE: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander isn't the only Canadian thriving on NBA Finals stage It is unclear when he sustained 'a lower leg thing.' Neither team has submitted an injury report for Game 3 on Wednesday, June 11, and Haliburton was not listed on the injury report before Game 2. Haliburton made the winning shot in Indiana's Game 1 victory. He is averaging 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists and shooting 50% from the field in the Finals. The scoring and assists numbers are below his season and playoff averages – both are areas the Pacers want to address. Follow NBA reporter Jeff Zillgitt on social media @JeffZillgitt

The Dream (5-3) own the third most-potent offense in the WNBA (84.6 points per game), and they lead the league in rebounding (37.6). This is their third meeting already. We will have score updates and highlights throughout, so please remember to refresh. 7:30 p.m. ET Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Gateway Arena at College Park in Atlanta. Chloe Peterson, IndyStar: Dream 82-76 "This game really could go either way, but with the continuing injury rehabs for Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham, the Dream have the edge. "The Dream have been one of the most surprising teams of the young season, surpassing expectations with a 5-3 record. "Head coach Karl Smesko, even with a two-big tandem of Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones, has been successful with his five-out system. Allisha Gray is emerging as an early Most Improved Player candidate, winning Eastern Conference Player of the Month for May and averaging 20.1 points per game. The Dream have four players averaging double figures, including Griner, Jones, and Rhyne Howard. "The Fever have improved in these past two games, including a 27-point win over the Sky. But I think they'll run into problems the Dream's physicality and height." Fever: Caitlin Clark (quad) and Sophie Cunningham (knee) are out. Dream: None. In four games this season, Caitlin Clark averaged 19.0 points, 9.3 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals, making 31.4% of her 3-pointers.
