Prioritise mental health for a developed India: Tripura Guv
Vijayawada: Tripura Governor Nallu Indrasena Reddy stressed the importance of mental health as essential to the nation's progress while inaugurating the M.Phil Clinical Psychology and Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology (PDCP) courses at Indlas Hospitals here on Monday.
Speaking at the event, Indrasena Reddy stated that the vision of a Viksita Bharat (Developed India) is incomplete without ensuring the mental well-being of its citizens. Along with medical and health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav, he handed over admission letters to students of the newly-launched courses.
He also pointed out India's growing reputation as a global healthcare hub attracting patients even from developed countries due to quality and affordable treatment. However, he called for an end to the social stigma surrounding mental illness, urging society to treat mental disorders like any other health issue.
Minister Satya Kumar Yadav praised Indlas Hospitals for initiating the advanced mental health courses to address the growing demand for professionals in this sector. Citing national data, he said nearly 80 per cent of people in India experience some form of mental health challenge, while Andhra Pradesh alone records a prevalence of 76.22 per cent. He called on the film industry to refrain from misrepresenting mental health professionals and appealed for empathy and respect toward those undergoing treatment.
He further said there is a need for at least three psychiatrists per one lakh population and shared that the Central government had allocated Rs 1,100 crore towards mental health in the current financial year. The minister also announced the upcoming launch of a Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Visakhapatnam, modelled after NIMHANS, Bengaluru. An expert committee led by Dr Indla Ramasubba Reddy will be formed to drive innovation in the field.
The event featured the unveiling of course brochures and concluded with minister Yadav felicitating Governor Indrasena Reddy with a Dharmavaram silk shawl and a copy of his book 'Satyakalam'.
Key dignitaries present included Dr P Chandrasekhar, vice-chancellor of Dr NTR Health University, MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, registrar Dr V Radhika Reddy, and Dr G Samaram.

Resident docs end strike at Udaipur's RNT Med College
Udaipur: Resident doctors at RNT Medical College in Udaipur resumed work on Monday after an 11-day strike, restoring medical services across all departments. The doctors ended the strike following assurances that the medical college and the district administration would jointly send a letter to the state govt to provide appropriate compensation to the family of Dr Ravi Sharma, who died due to electrocution from a water cooler at the college's Dilshad hostel on June 18. Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 1 (ANI): At the inauguration ceremony of the first AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) University, The Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur, Bharatiya Janta Party member and Member of Lok Sabha form Gorakhpur, Ravi Kishan thanked the Prime Minister Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minster Yogi Adityanath and called the moment historic. He said, 'I heartily thank Prime Minister Modi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and the double-engine government. This is a historic moment for Gorakhpur.' Kishan mentioned the cost incurred in making the university and added, 'The first AYUSH University in Uttar Pradesh will be built here at a cost of Rs 300 crores. This is a very joyous moment, and as an MP, I have witnessed very significant moments here... The AYUSH University will be in Gorakhpur, and it will be inaugurated by the President... The entire Gorakhpur has come out on the streets today to catch a glimpse of President Droupadi Murmu.' The Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University was inaugurated today by President Droupadi Murmu today on July 1 who is on a two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh. The foundation of the university was laid on August 28, 2021, by then-President Ram Nath Kovind following an invitation from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The university is situated on 52 acres in Pipri, Bhathat, approximately 25 kilometres from the Gorakhpur district headquarters. The university is affiliated with 98 AYUSH colleges across the state. These include 76 Ayurveda, 10 Unani and 12 Homoeopathy colleges. Before the university's formation, these colleges were overseen by separate institutions. With the establishment of Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University, regulation has been brought under a single system. The university has been in operation since the 2021-22 academic session and currently conducts examinations and manages academic activities for the following programs: BAMS, MD, MS in Ayurveda; BUMS, MD, MS in Unani; and BHMS, MD in Homoeopathy. The Chief Minister initiated the concept of the state's first AYUSH university after the central government grouped Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy under the AYUSH category. Along with Ayurveda, Unani, and Homoeopathy, the university will also include disciplines like Yoga, Naturopathy, Siddha, and Sowa-Rigpa in the future. A plan is being prepared to initiate academic and treatment activities in these streams. The President will also visit Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, Gorakhpur, where she will inaugurate its Auditorium, Academic Block, and Panchkarma Kendra, as well as lay the foundation stone for a new girls' hostel, the release added. He was speaking at the launch of in Clinical Psychology and Professional Diploma in Clinical Psychology (PDCP) courses at Indlas Hospitals in Vijayawada on Monday. Speaking as chief guest alongside Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar Yadav, the Governor presented admission documents to the selected students. He praised India's emergence as a global health destination, offering high-quality treatment at affordable costs. 'Mental illness is often stigmatised and neglected. It must be treated with the same seriousness as physical disorders,' he said. Minister Yadav described the courses as a commendable step towards expanding access to psychiatric care. Highlighting that 80% of Indians experience some form of mental health issue— 7 6 . 2 2% in Andhr a Pradesh—he stressed the need for more professionals. 'We require three psychiatrists per one lakh people. Sadly, psychiatrists are often misrepresented in films, which must change,' he added. The Minister announced a Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Visakhapatnam, modelled on NIMHANS Bengaluru, and the formation of an Expert Committee led by Dr Indla Ramasubba Reddy. Dr Ramasubba Reddy and Dr Vishal Indla noted the courses, affiliated with Dr NT R Health University, aim to train competent mental health professionals. University Vice-Chancellor Dr P Chandrasekhar, and MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao attended the event.
