AMMAN — Photographer Bashar Tabbah on Friday launched his latest photo book, "Between Moments", at the Design Centre in Umm Utheina, offering a powerful visual narrative of daily life in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Through more than 200 full-colour images captured between 2017 and 2023, Tabbah seeks to portray the resilience of Palestinian life under occupation, providing a counter-narrative to the dominant media focus on violence in Gaza and the West Bank.
"Between Moments is a photographic exploration of modern life within and around the Old City of Jerusalem, with a special focus on the Haram Al Sharif complex," Tabbah said in an interview with The Jordan Times.
The bilingual publication, in Arabic and English, is part of a wider project aimed at raising funds for medical aid in Palestine.
"Unlike some of my earlier work that combined visuals with historical narratives, this book is purely a visual journey — a reframing and humanising of a people and place living under occupation," Tabbah noted.
He described the emotional toll of creating the book amid ongoing violence in the region. "Beyond the usual challenges of funding and development, the hardest part was resisting the urge to give up in the face of continuous brutality. Oddly enough, that despair became my motivation to complete the project and contribute to something meaningful."
Divided into two sections, the book first presents intimate images of everyday life in Jerusalem's alleys, markets, and homes. The second section shifts focus to the religious and cultural significance of Haram Al Sharif.
By capturing what he calls the "quieter moments" of Palestinian life, Tabbah hopes to offer a fresh perspective — one that emphasises dignity, endurance, and humanity over conflict.

China, Jordan witness steady development, Chinese Ambassador says

Ammon News - China's Ambassador to Amman, Chen Chuandong, has affirmed that relations between China and Jordan are witnessing steady development based on mutual respect and shared benefits across all fields. Speaking at a farewell reception Tuesday evening to mark the end of his diplomatic mission in the Kingdom, the ambassador praised Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, as an "oasis of security and stability" in the Middle East. He commended the nation for overcoming numerous challenges and for its confident and optimistic pursuit of development and modernization. He highlighted the alignment of both nations on several regional and international issues, particularly their shared support for a just, two-state solution to the Palestinian cause and their cooperation in delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza. Ambassador Chen noted the significant growth in economic partnership, pointing out that bilateral trade soared to $537 million in 2024, marking a 21% year-on-year increase from $360 million in 2020. He cited major projects, including a "Belt and Road" initiative memorandum signed this year, Chinese firms becoming the largest shareholder in the Arab Potash Company boosting its output and contributing to China's food security and extensive investments in Jordan's solar and wind energy sectors, which have created numerous jobs and supported the Kingdom's green transition. Cultural and educational ties have also flourished. "Chinese troupes have participated in the Jerash Festival for consecutive years, and events like 'Tea for Harmony,' food festivals, and anime screenings have been widely embraced by our Jordanian friends," Chen said. He added that approximately 600 Jordanians are studying Chinese, while 500 Chinese students are studying Arabic in Jordan, and the embassy provided training in China for nearly 600 Jordanians last year. Marking the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the two countries, the ambassador expressed his optimism for a brighter future and a broader scope for bilateral relations.

Accusations of 'Supporting Terrorism' to Justify the Expulsion of Palestinians - Jordan News

It appears that the Israeli occupation considers the Gaza file 'closed' — now shifting its focus to a new phase of ethnic cleansing targeting Palestinians both within and beyond the 1948 territories. In a politically and security-motivated move with implications far beyond the Green Line, Israel began enforcing a new law in May 2025 allowing the revocation of citizenship and residency of Palestinians from the 1948 territories under the pretext of 'supporting terrorism.' اضافة اعلان This law's ramifications are not limited to Palestinians within Israel; it poses a broader threat to the West Bank, fueling a sense of fear and uncertainty among Palestinians and endangering their national and geographic future amid ongoing policies of displacement and cleansing. The connection between this law and the reality in the West Bank is evident in several critical aspects: First, the law legitimizes the principle of collective punishment and silent expulsion — a strategy long familiar to Palestinians since the Nakba of 1948. Legal deportation of Palestinians from within Israel parallels daily practices of the occupation in the West Bank, including arrests, forced displacement, and land confiscation. Together, they form a unified strategy to diminish the Palestinian presence, whether inside the state or in the occupied territories. Second, promoting 'national loyalty' as a criterion for citizenship revives and reinforces apartheid-style policies. It deepens the divide between Palestinians holding Israeli citizenship and those in the West Bank and Gaza, further weakening national unity in the face of occupation. Third, the law signals a dangerous shift in Israel's policy toward Palestinians. It's no longer just about direct security targeting, but also dismantling legal foundations that protect basic rights. This trend undermines stability in the West Bank, where many now feel the occupation is deliberately working to dismantle Palestinian social cohesion using oppressive legal tools. Amid growing tensions in the West Bank, such a law is likely to inflame popular anger and escalate resistance, potentially leading to a renewed cycle of violence. Palestinians view the law as a collective attack that reopens the wounds of forced displacement under the guise of security — a narrative increasingly hard to justify by any local or international authority. In conclusion, Israel's expulsion law targeting Palestinians of 1948 is far from an internal matter. It is part of a broader systemic effort by the occupation to dismantle Palestinian identity and presence everywhere. The Palestinian response must therefore be unified and coordinated — from within the 1948 territories to the West Bank — to confront these policies threatening the very existence and future of the Palestinian people. Now more than ever, the international community must step in to oppose these practices that blatantly violate international and humanitarian law, and which place all Palestinians under the threat of displacement and repression.
