Jordan Source launches a diplomat training initiative for ambassadors of Jordan's tech sector
Jordan Source, a program under the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship (MoDEE), hosted an unprecedented training event, marking the launch of a first-of-its-kind initiative to train Jordanian diplomats to become ambassadors of the Kingdom's technology sector. This initiative is part of Jordan Source's ongoing efforts to position Jordan as a leader in Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO), Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO), and gaming sectors on the global stage.
The first in a series, the event was held on 14th of May 2025, at The ARC in King Hussein Business Park. The one-day session was graced by His Excellency Sami Smeirat, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, alongside select distinguished guest speakers and diplomats. This training series aims to empower diplomats to advocate and assume the role of ambassadors for the Kingdom's talent in the technology sector around the world.
The event kicked off with a welcome speech by His Excellency Sami Smeirat. During his note, he pointed that Jordan is forging its space on the regional and global landscapes, highlighting the Kingdom's outstanding development in the ITO, BPO, ICT, creative and gaming sectors.
The session featured three industry leaders who shared their invaluable insights with the attendees. Each of the guest speakers specializes in a specific area: Michael Orfaly, Country Senior Partner at PwC, tackled the ITO sector, whereas Wa'ed Al Hawamdeh, Managing Director – Jordan, UAE & KSA at Concentrix, brought his expertise in the BPO field. Meanwhile, Nour Khrais, Founder and CEO of Maysalward, represented the gaming industry. These industry leaders exemplified success stories with their own companies, sharing their experiences with the attendees.
Commenting on the Kingdom's rapid development in the ICT sector, HE Sami Smeirat stated, 'Jordan is carving out its place on both the regional and global stages, driven by our exceptional talent and strategic location. We have made remarkable progress across the ITO, BPO, ICT, creative industries, and gaming sectors, positioning the Kingdom as a hub of innovation and opportunity.'
He further highlighted aligning with national efforts, noting that 'the launch of this diplomat training program embodies His Majesty King Abdullah II's vision of investing in Jordanian talent as the foundation for development, and aligns with the Economic Modernization Vision, which aims to accelerate growth, strengthen the digital economy, and enhance Jordan's global competitiveness. Through this initiative, we are empowering our diplomats to champion Jordan's technology sector and promote the Kingdom as a regional leader in digital excellence and innovation.'
Following His Excellency's address, Dana Darwish, Program Manager at Jordan Source, took the stage to highlight the major milestones in Jordan's tech sector, with a particular focus on local talent, strategic location, and what makes Jordan a country of firsts in the region in the IT sector.
Two more keynotes were presented at the event by representatives from the Youth, Technology, and Jobs (YTJ) Program at MoDEE, focusing on Jordan's advantages as a technology hub. They delved into the incentives and grants provided by the government to companies who bring their businesses to Jordan, including zero income tax, exemptions on custom duties, and no sales tax on ICT services.
It is worth noting that Jordan Source is always seeking new ways to support its mission. The diplomat training program is its latest initiative in connecting businesses, investors and entrepreneurs from across the globe with the resources they need to grow, thrive, and flourish. By cultivating its local talent as ambassadors, Jordan Source reaffirms their commitment to being ideal partners for technology and innovation.

Abu Dhabi's XRG targets LNG and gas capacity of up to 25m tonnes a year by 2035
Adnoc's global energy investment arm XRG aims to have a gas and LNG business with capacity of between 20 to 25 million tonnes per annum by 2035 as it looks to scale up its operations globally. XRG's board, which includes Adnoc group managing director and chief executive Dr Sultan Al Jaber, former BP chief executive Bernard Looney and Blackstone's Jon Gray, approved a five-year business plan for the company on Monday. 'XRG is investing in the energy systems of the future – more integrated, more resilient, and responsive to global demand,' Dr Al Jaber, who is also the executive chairman of XRG, said. 'We are scaling platforms in gas, chemicals and energy solutions to drive long-term value and ensure energy remains a catalyst for sustainable growth and development.' XRG was launched last year as an international lower-carbon energy and chemicals investment company, with an enterprise value exceeding $80 billion. In December, President Sheikh Mohamed endorsed the appointment of the board of directors for the new unit. Other members of the board include Mohamed Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment and managing director and chief executive of Abu Dhabi's holding company ADQ, and Nassef Sawiris, the executive chair of OCI Global. The board 'supported the assessment of potential upstream gas M&A and LNG opportunities to strengthen its North American gas position", the statement said. Last month, the UAE made an announcement to increase the value of its investments in the US energy sector to $440 billion by 2035, from the current $70 billion, during US President Donald Trump's visit to the Gulf countries. That is part of the UAE's plan to invest $1.4 trillion in the country. XRG bought a stake in NextDecade's Rio Grande liquefied natural gas export facility in Texas last year along with other acquisitions in Mozambique and Turkmenistan. The board also endorsed the 'company's ambition to create a top-three global chemicals platform", the statement said. 'Subject to respective regulatory approvals, the proposed formation of Borouge Group International and the proposed acquisition of Covestro anchors an industry-leading portfolio across polyolefins, performance materials, and future speciality segments.' In December, XRG announced the acquisition of the German chemicals company Covestro for an enterprise value of €14.7 billion ($15.3 billion). In March, Adnoc also agreed to terms of a binding agreement with Austria's OMV to merge their polyolefins business and create a $60 billion Borouge Group International. The board also directed XRG through its Energy Solutions platform to expand its investments across the energy value chain "while continuing to develop select opportunities in carbon capture and storage and low-carbon fuels such as biofuels and low-carbon hydrogen that align with attractive return profiles". That comes amid growth in AI-linked power demand, particularly in the US, the statement added.

UAE defence firm signs $2.45bn missile boat deal with Kuwait
UAE defence major EDGE has announced the signing of a AED9bn ($2.45bn) contract with the Kuwait Ministry of Defence for the supply of FALAJ3 62m missile boats. This contract marks the largest naval shipbuilding export in the region and ranks among the highest-value naval export deals globally. As the prime contractor, EDGE will lead the programme which includes the design, construction, trials, and delivery of the vessels, in addition to Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and In-Service Support (ISS). UAE and Kuwait missile boat deal EDGE will also provide the ammunition for the vessels, further demonstrating its end-to-end capability offering. Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), EDGE Group's naval arm and the UAE's leading shipbuilder, has been selected as the build subcontractor for the programme. Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO, EDGE, said: 'This agreement with Kuwait is hugely significant both in scale and strategic importance. It deepens long-term defence ties between our nations, brings a proven class of advanced vessels into regional service, and reinforces EDGE's position as a trusted international partner. 'It also reflects the pace of industrial and engineering progress we've achieved in just a few years, and our ability to design, build, and deliver complex naval platforms at scale. 'As we enter a new phase of export-led growth, this programme marks a clear signal of global confidence in what EDGE can deliver.' Evangelical interfaith advocate who advises Trump named head of Gaza Humanitarian Foundation
Johnnie Moore, an evangelical leader and businessman, has been appointed head of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), the organisation said in a statement on Tuesday. Mr Moore, an adviser to President Donald Trump on interfaith issues, replaces Jake Wood, who left the top position at the foundation last week. Mr Wood said in a statement that he felt compelled to leave after determining the organisation could not fulfil its mission. 'GHF believes that serving the people of Gaza with dignity and compassion must be the top priority," he said in a statement. He is the founder and chief executive of the boutique communications consultancy Kairos Company and president of the Congress of Christian Leaders. He has been active in interfaith dialogue, and was involved in the drafting of the 2017 Bahrain Declaration on Religious Freedom and Peaceful Coexistence in the Middle East. According to his biography on the Kairos website, Mr Moore is a "noted evangelical friend" of Israel and has met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as various Palestinian government and civil society leaders. He also played "a significant role" in the development of the Abraham Accords, the biography says. John Acree, the acting director of the GHF, said Mr Moore has "a proven record of principled leadership and hands-on humanitarian work". Mr Moore has praised the GHF on social media since its foundation, most recently lauding it for the development of a "women only" lane at aid distribution sites. He also posted on X that he had "several really encouraging meetings" with the International Committee of the Red Cross, though they don't "always see eye to eye". In another post, he called reports of violence at GHF-run aid distribution sites a lie "spread by terrorists". There have been several reports of violence at distribution sites in the days since the GHF began operations. On Tuesday, 27 people were killed and 90 wounded when Israeli troops opened fire in the area, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The Israeli military said on social media it had fired shots near an aid distribution complex after "identifying a number of suspects moving towards forces". Both Israel and the US have denied or played down reports of violence. 'We welcome others to join us and urge extreme caution against sharing unverified information from sources that have repeatedly issued demonstrably false reports,' Mr Moore said in the statement. On social media, Mr Moore has drawn a connection between the so-called false reports and anti-Semitic violence in the US, particularly an attack on a Jewish group gathered in a park in Colorado. The National has contacted Mr Moore for comment. The GHF has faced criticism from the UN and humanitarian groups that have traditionally operated in the enclave. The news comes after a leading US consulting firm reportedly pulled out of the GHF last week. The Washington Post said that Boston Consulting Group had been hired last autumn to help design the programme and run its business operations, but that it withdrew its team operating in Tel Aviv on Friday. A representative for the firm said the company had terminated its contract with the GHF and placed a senior partner on the project on leave, pending an internal review. The representative added that all the firm's work with the foundation was "pro bono". Boston Consulting Group set the prices for paying and equipping contractors associated with the foundation working to distribute aid in southern Gaza, the Post said.
